Iskandar was my favorite character from Fate 0, and when I started playing D&D I would never think that he would be playable. I'm tempted to try out this Pal-or build. Thanks.
I know this isn't patreon but I hope you do Inuyasha because my overall diagnosis of Ichigo (as much as I like his attitude/character) is he's armored in plot armor every which way the author can think of. To summarize: his power origin is very confusing!
My jaw dropped when you hit Level 19 and actually made the reality marble part of Ioniai Hetaroi work. Absolute Galaxy Brain build. Bless you for this.
Matt Geczy If Iskandar was the final boss, I would be supremely disappointed in any party that didn’t ultimately join his army themselves. He is our king.
Most of them are Sorcadins. I’ve posted builds here before, and they’re usually Sorcadins. It’s amusing, in that fate characters and Sorcadins are disgustingly powerful, but it’s also fitting, since a classical hero is usually an inspiring warrior destined for greatness by their situation and talent, which is kinda how a Sorcadin works in basic lore.
This is the most mathematically brilliant solution to building this character I can imagine. Wildly impractical, but still a thing of beauty and I pray none of my players try this.
I like the fact that you do go to lv 20, it makes it feel better, your turning lots of times crazy powerful or strange things into dnd 5e characters, that can be very tricky with only lesser levels.
Yeah, it definitely fits the whole concept of Fate as well. All the heroic spirits already completed their stories while they were alive, now they physical manifestation of their legend is being summoned to do battle with other heroic spirits of equivalent capabilities. Of course something like that would be max level.
Evil sorcerer running around? Nah man, Gilles is a straight up Pact of the Tome warlock. Still though, I think this is one of your most impressive builds, props to you for the ingenuity!
To be fair, evil Sorcerer with serial killer could also be applied to Gilgamesh and Kirei...but that is true. Also yeah Gilles is def a Pact of the Tome Warlock, but I'm not entirely sure which patron makes the most sense for him. In canon, Gilles' patron is probably either Prelati, or Prelati's Spellbook itself, and part of me wants to think it's Great Old One, but the abilities don't exactly line up well...although, obviously Gilles' main spells would focus on summoning, even if those spells would be more undead than what Caster would usually be summoning, aberrations...aside from the UA Summon Aberrant Spirit spell
@@keithgawain3614 Okay, I will have to disagree a little bit on one thing about Goolocks and Gilles, and that is the Thought Shield ability. I think that is one of the closest abilities you'll get in DnD to his Mental Pollution skill, as his mind can't be understood unless you are just as crazy as he is. And that's similar to what Thought Shield gives you; resistance to psychic damage, and your mind can't be read by anybody unless you want it to be read, aka when you meet someone as crazy as you. Otherwise yeah it's not entirely one to one, but Tulok I'm sure can pull it off
I kind of most definitely want to play this character now. A fallen king rebuilding his army as he levels, all the while boasting of his might to enemies and allies alike.
For a simple way to break the build and really simulate the Ionian Hetairoi, ask your DM if the soldiers remain loyal forever in the Demiplane and instead losing control after the time elapses outside of it, they go back there with the rest. So you can keep control of them without using most slots to maintain control. Or use the slots to add more in persistently.
Tulok, you're very aware, once you do two characters from a franchise you might as well just bring the entire cast. Archer, Ryn, Kiritsugu, Kirei, Saber, Lancer, Caster. We want them and you know it.
I'd argue the DM could create a legendary magic item that maintains the control undead spell for a certain number of creatures that has a certain recharge mechanic for the Ionioi Hetairoi. Though I do recall necromancers generating the same effect with portals (made by people far more clever than myself in D&D mechanics)
Episode #171 of the Fire Emblem stats: Iskandar. He's a Rider, so it's not a surprise that he's good at riding. In addition, his strengths are in swords and authority. He has weaknesses in magic since he's one of the few Fate classes that doesn't use magic. His charm and defense are his highest stats and the only low stat is in magic.
12:37 “...you could just conquer the denizens of some lesser plane to make your own little army pokeball.” For some reason, I just find the phrasing of this hilarious.
You missed the "find greater steed" oportunity, paladins prepare spells in the same way as prist so when you have 4th level spells you can have a this spell.
You would need to take paladin to level 9 to be able to prepare that spell. Multiclassing doesn't merge the spell list for the classes taken otherwise that would be broken. Its similar to the reason why this build gets 9th level spell slots but no actual 9th level spells to cast and has to resort to upcasting lower level spells
@@MrGundamman00 Actualy it does. Paladins prepare theyr spell list every day with whatever spells they want ( even if theyr class wouldnt allow then to cast that spell at that level ) this is the same for druids and prists. Other classes like sorcerers and mages have limitations like the one you just said but not all.
@@nicolasreinaldet732 Spells Known and Prepared. You determine what spells you know and can prepare for each class individually, as if you were a single-classed member of that class. If you are a ranger 4/wizard 3, for example, you know three 1st-level ranger spells based on your levels in the ranger class. As 3rd-level wizard, you know three wizard cantrips, and your spellbook contains ten wizard spells, two of which (the two you gained when you reached 3rd level as a wizard) can be 2nd-level spells. I don't know about past editions but in 5th edition that is not the case otherwise it would be absolutely broken and any caster would multiclass 1 level in cleric for all those amazing spells
@@MrGundamman00 You prepare spells like if you were a single-classed menber of that class. Paladins, clerics and druids prepare any spell of theyr list that they have spell slots to cast ( not acording to theyr spell slot table, diferent than mages, warlocks, druids and sorceres ). The fact that a multiclass of wizard ranger cant do that doesnt mean that any multiclass womt be able to. And yes that is a broken mechanic but is inside the rules. If dont belive me just research mage/wizard multiclass online.
@@nicolasreinaldet732 again that is not the case read the section on wizard and cleric for spellcasting and you'll find the wording similar. Since technically a wizard can have a spell in their spellbook thats a higher level than they can cast that would put them in a similar spot as clerics but the official text on multiclassing specifically said otherwise. Also you keep mentioning mage but thats not a class that exists in d&d 5e so I'm not sure what you mean by looking up a mage wizard multiclass
BOW BEFORE THE KING Yeah, this is absolutely on point. Holy cow... I hadn't considered the army option, but that works, and once I saw that, I saw exactly where the build was headed for the Reality Marble. Hmmm... if you manage to find and conquer a demiplane where time is super slow, you could extend the life of the army with fewer spells... it is absolutely fitting... definitely requires GM fiat, but for this level of dedication to a concept, I'd allow it in my games. Also, Divine Soul fits well in the Fate verse because he's considered descended from Zeus, which is where the lightning comes in. Re: Alignment: Fate is really weird with their alignments. It's helpful to keep in mind that the first VN was released in '04 and a lot of the world was drawn up before that, so most gamers abroad (including Nasu, most likely) probably were still familiar with AD&D alignments, and there was a bias towards Lawful Good as "heroic" back then. Also, in Type Moon, alignment is somewhat subjective to the servant summoned. Those who see themselves as altruistic can end up with good alignments even if they act like assholes; those who see themselves as selfish can end up being evil. I think your assessment of LN or True Neutral probably is on point in the modern system.
I've said before I wanted to see a PvP fight between Tulok's Superman and Doomsday. Now I'm willing to throw down actual money to see this build in action. I want to see the two hour long turn of his entire army fighting someone.
People are actually complaining about the fact you go to level 20? What, they want you to stop at 15? At 10? Enjoy the longer video you muppets, this is the best content on the whole site.
Next video: How to play as a god! So, the race doesn't really matter, we'll pick a human for consistency's sake. Next, the class is really important. You're gonna want to pick the Dungeon Master class. Some people think this class is a bit overpowered... They're right!
I'd love to take this build, increase the number of Paladin levels, and roleplay is as essentially the historical Alexander the Great (Divine Soul Sorcerer makes sense as he claimed to be the son of Zeus-Ammun, a syncretic god combining Zeus with Amun)
Oh my god, I love it, my skies are cleared, my crops are watered, and I will never ask for anything else ever again. But just in case... Nah, we good homie.
man if only historical Alexander the great had Divine health also really love how you touch on the fact that historical Alexander the great was a huge history nerd!
Love me a Sorcadin (played this exact level split from 3-20) but an easier way to run it would be straight Valor Bard. You get a fighter with high Cha, inspiration and buffing spells. Magical Secrets will be doing a lot of the extra work here. For his noble phantasm, you take find greater steed and raise dead with magical secrets at 10 and then at 18 take Demi-plane and Wish. You stuff the demi-plane full of rabid zombies or skeletons in your spare time so no need to retain control on them. In combat you cast Demiplane behind an enemy, shoulder them through the door and close it trapping them in there.
A warning for future fate build: Small spoiler: Archer of fate stay night is a warlock, sorcerer, fighter Not a paladin or wizard He only learn 2 spells
Amazingly, for once the build's weaknesses line up perfectly with the characters'. That's not a jab by the way, I know you're limited by the mechanics of the game.
You did it! You genius, you actually did it. You got the King of Conquerors. But you know who else is a conqueror. 🤔 He crushes his enemies. He sees them driven before him and he hears the lamination of the women. You already know who im talking about. Arnold Schwarzenegger's "Conan the Barbarian". 😉
Shirou in dnd: Stats Dexterity 15, Charisma 14, Constitution 13, Intelligence 12, Strength 10, Wisdom 8. Class: Fighter/Hexblade/Swords Bard. For Archer Emiya i would say Dex 15, Int 14, Wis 13, Con 12, Str 10, Cha 8. Class: Bladesinger Wizard.
So I would advise using a combo of booming blade, and quickened spell to hit twice like a sorcerer/paladin multiclass should, but hey to each their own I guess
Impressive build - especially the workings behind Iskander's noble phantasm. I found this channel a few weeks ago, and it's interesting how you manage to mix and mesh features and traits to accurately emulate these characters. I've favored 3.5e/Pathfinder for years now, but your videos have helped endear me to 5th edition. I just subscribed to your patreon last week, and I'm looking forward to future polls. If you're accepting requests/suggestions, I'd like to see the following: -Metal Sonic (Warforged Monk/Wizard, perhaps?) -Dr. Robotnik (a chance to try making construct servants) -M. Bison (thought of this when you posted your Street Fighter poll) And of course, more Fate/Stay Night servants are always appreciated. I'd particularly like to see your take on Berserker (Herakles) and Archer (Emiya).
Pretty sure Servants aren't considered undead. The idea is that you're summoning magical copies of badass warriors, powerful spellcasters, and legendary artisans from a record that exists out of space time. They're more like familiars than zombies or ghosts. Heck, in Fate/Grand Order, there's an undead trait, and the Servants you summon don't have that trait. Also, while half of it flew over my head, what little I understood of the build was an amazing piece of work at recreating the King of Conquers! Well done! Both this and your Gilgamesh build were amazing, and I'm hoping to see more of the Fate crew in future episodes.
Could we get Hannibal Lecter? Would love to see you build a character like that. Charismatic, Intelligent, Strong for his size, and an on/off switch of animal ferocity
Also, fun thing with the Paladin/Sorcerer multiclass, Booming Blade and Green-Flame Blade cantrips still count as melee weapon attacks for the purpose of triggering Divine Smite (or Sneak Attack, should you take Rogue instead of Paladin) You don't get to benefit from Extra Attack when you cast these cantrips, but the damage is pretty comparable to attacking twice with using low level Smites, while saving those spells slots.
You make a point about Waver being as soft as his last name, Velvet. Add to that his first name is WAVER. Waver is a verb synonymous with quivering or trembling. It can also describe someone becoming weaker, faltering or giving in to hesitation and doubt. Commonly heard negated i.e " I will never waver". TLDR: Waver Velvet is a name that signals pretty hard that this character is inexperienced, hesitant and perhaps more than a little soft.
OR... You can go full bard, grab demiplane and plane shift on the way up... also find greater steed and animate dead at lvl 10. Demiplane at lvl 15 allows you to transfer soldiers easier. You also get gate, so you can just summon your whole army anywhere. Bards also get a d8, extra attack if you grab valor or swords (both fit nice) and your instrument can just be a warhorn.
Huh...I expected Dex to be the dump stat to be honest. Canonically, Iskandar has the lowest Agility of all the Servants of the 4th Holy Grail War, tied with Caster at D. But Dex saves are a part of being on a mount, so that makes sense, and Wisdom does make sense for Iskandar to dump too. I also kind of expected another Scourge Aasimar like Gilgamesh, but Variant Human with Divine Soul works pretty well too. Alexander the Great was said to have been descended from Zeus, with Achilles and Hercules being his ancestors...somehow, and Fate interprets that as having a Divinity skill at a meh rank, unlike, say, Gilgamesh who's 2/3 god and WOULD'VE had A if he didn't utterly despise the gods. Great build as always, Tulok!
Your channel has been a great joy for some time now - Cap or Batman, I think? - so I feel guilty even questioning anything. Bear with me. :) I’m not sure the servants are undead. They’re mythological / legendary representations from the past and maybe more akin to magical constructs or celestial beings (Though I agree for builds it makes sense to have them be what they represent so, Human for racial). Somewhere deep under a tomb or in a forgotten land the actual corpse of those who did exist, the body may still be there and “ghost” doesn’t seem right, either. But then I’m not the one who nails these week after week (closest I ever got was an obsession - ok, still have it - of using watered down 3.0’ish rules on D&D Tactics for the PSP to create characters based on ones from other settings...so this channel is right up my alley). I do have a question: it’s going to be an ear worm for me until someone helps me figure out the intro song (Though not sure you’re ever topping the Cheers theme).
Thank you so much. I love all this. There's a few new martial arts anime that'd be really cool to see some builds of, but until then playing a Rider will be a lot of fun
One of my top 5 favorite characters in all of anime! Nice work as always tulok. Between this and the options on your latest poll (which I hope all get their turn eventually, tbh) I Just signed up for Patreon just to support you
This character is why I like Zero more than Stay night. And because it has a better protagonist. And because every servant gets screen time unless their entire point is to not get screen time. And because it has more compelling characters in general. And because it doesn't turn Gilgamesh into a boarderline genocidal maniac who left his armor in his other Gate of Babylon. And because it's not another anime starring mostly High School students. And... you know what, I think you get the point.
