yeah if you use them you wont build up them calluses. When I first stated playing the uke I would bleed and it would be so painful, after a month or two it completely stopped bothering me since I got calluses.

@@emilie2667 I never had my fingers bleed. I've been playing for about a year or two, although I did play a little bit of guitar before I mine.

@@emilie2667 lol I figured that was the case. It's kinda funny how I never had that probably cause I would play until my fingers were numb, but they never ended up bleeding. They were pretty sore though XD.

Yeah i really like piano before i discovered kalimba and i can't afford a piano class as i have to attend my tuition class and then i discovered kalimba and boom! Fall in love with it!

btw on aliexpress are pretty cheap kalimbas :) idk about the quality but they are about 10-30$ there!

Any music will be confusing and scary to any newcomer, but if you do your research and practise a lot then skill will definitely come. @@ranger4758 nah just make sure it doesn't get too dry. You should always humidify any wood instrument. If you want,.go to any music store and ask them for one and just keep it in a sealed bag. Cheers

I'm currently looking for a new hobby and I like the idea of learning to play the kalimba. However, I'm dyspraxic ( two sides of brain aren't always in sync) I can't read music notes and I could write on postage stamp all I know about musical instruments. Am I foolish to think I can learn one?

@@welcometogreenaquasglen1846 hey there. I'm more than sure that you could still learn to play the Kalimba. You can definitely learn to play songs without having to read music. In fact, I learned a lot of the songs I play by listening to a tune and copying it on the Kalimba. You could try that! Best of luck :)

@@terezatomaskova3855 here's a nice place to start from www.kalimbamagic.com/blog/tag/Free%20Tablature and there's loads of video's on RU-vid on it, so find a Kalimba song you like on RU-vid and play it on the slowest speed so you can follow what they're doing.

Hey there! I understand the problem you are having as I have had it on my Kalimbas sometimes as well. Unfortunately, if the tile is too short then I am not too sure how to enhance its sound quality. Maybe try moving the tiles side to side a bit to try and loosen them up? Good luck!

Hi, I personally don't recommend move tins side to side. Although it can be okay to move very occasionally and slightly when it is needed but i do not recommend move it often and vigorously as the wood might be compressed and tin might edge into the wood (especially when the side of tin is not finished properly and is sharp). That might cause other problems such as making buzz noise or losing sustain of the sound. I would recommend to check if your play technique is good first. Try not to touch the body with your palm which can kill the vibration sometimes. Try use nail but not finger part. Try not to hold tins too long but make it short contact when you play. change your hand position to hold the body. sometimes edge of tins are too sharp and it may prevent sliding your nail or finger smoothly (HIGHLY NOT recommended but I used a finest sand paper and sanded a little. This might rip the top coat off and may cause rust which will kill the sound). There might be some more tips but I personally think high notes are generally and more likely have this issue REGARDLESS if the tension (or the pressure) of tin is tight or loose. I believe it is a relation to the vibration (or the frequency). As time passes by using it, it may be resolved by itself but I personally not recommend to modify it by forcing it to move or bend the tins unless you are very familiar with the instrument. However it is also true that moving tins side to side can fix problem and I, to be honest, did it to my top notes (highest 3) by moving it to the outside. I needed to move whole tins to adjust equality of the width between tins to make sliding (glinding) play smooth which of course caused buzzing problems (especially on the lower notes). Lower notes tends to have buzzing issue when you move tins so be very careful. Overtime, as you play, it is inevitable to have some issues of course so I would suggest not too worry about it too much and try not to modify (By the way, I jiggled my kalimba so many times and took me forever to fix problems). I will never ever absolutely not recommended but swapping tins sometimes fix the problems but you need to know how to remove and insert tins correctly. Also each tins has different length so it will cause problem with sliding technique when you do that. I mentioned the possible problems but you still can jiggle and have fun with your Kalimb (I have done it with my first Kalimba, it was very stressful when Kalimba doesn't sound like original after I have done some modification). I also recommended to tune every notes perfectly using apps. Perfect as in perfect by 1 heltz. Resonation is also the key to have good frequency. At the end, do not worry too much but enjoy your Kalimba!

so, its great way to practice and at least memorize songs when you get kalimba one day. i use app called Real Kalimba on phone and i memorized few songs and can play them at like 0.75 speed. im gonna buy kalimba in summer and its better than not having previous experience at all. plus you hold phone and play with thumbs just like real kalimba, so its great simulation

Hey there! Usually, there will not be any sharps or flats in a 17-key Kalimba since it will most likely be tuned to C Major, but you can technically tune the Kalimba to a different key if you'd like, which would therefore give you sharps and flats :)

That sounds like a video I could do. In the meantime, don't completely rule out Amazon as an option. I actually bought my first Kalimba from there. Just make sure you are purchasing a reputable brand, and one that has good reviews online. Hope this was helpful :)

Hey there! My first suggestion is to go with a reputable brand such as 'Kalimbatorium' or 'Kalimba Tree' as that will ensure that your Kalimba will be good quality. Also, the best Kalimba really depends on the person buying it. My advice is to just go with something that looks nice, has great reviews and is not too expensive. The Kalimbas I own are a Blue Mahogany 17-Key Muspor Kalimba (the one in this video), and an Arcanum S15 (you can find a review for it on my channel). Just search around online for a bit and I'm sure you'll find something great. Good luck!
