Who would have thought that the young man I watched on stage with John Mayall all those years ago would still be lauded by all us guitarists. many of whom weren't even born then. I feel so privileged to have been there and so happy to still hear great guitar players like you honouring him. Thank you
I hope this video is OK ? You have got to be having a laugh Dave ! It is mind bogglingly brilliant and simply the best thing that you could have done to honour Peter in his prime. Only when we understand him can we realise just how great a player he was and your insights help us do just that. Along the way it is clear that you have been hit with the Greeny stick - don't bother fighting it once struck you are stuck with it for life :-) . You are simply the best of the best. Play on.
Dave I found you... I live in Canada .. I love your awesome videos... Are you close to Liverpool..? That's were my good friend is from.... P. S you are a far better teacher and guitar player lol
This is my favorite guitar piece EVER. The New Orleans version is the BEST. I listen to it alone, with my eyes closed and no one else around. I can’t listen to it too often because it just reaches into my heart and squeezes the HELL out of it. You are a little bit of magic Dave.
You'v got Peters touch Dave . Very emotive playing. Great stuff Dave , i'v been a big fan of Peter ever since early Fleetwood Mac . If i would have heard this track by Peter back then i would have been in heaven . It only surfaced recently on utube as far as i know. I met Peter once wen Fleetwood Mac were doing a gig in Manchester. I was invited in the dressing room where his les paul was propped up. I picked it up and strummed it best i could - i'm left handed you see. The first thing i noticed was how dirty and dull the strings were ! Seemed strange him being a top guitarist . He did write to me a month later asking how i'm doing with my guitar practice is doing - i still have the letter , he even gave me his phone number ! I called him a number of times , usualy his dad answered the phone and said he was either out gigging or in the studio. I did however get to speak to Peter a couple of times. He is a lovely soul, very sensitive . I was very upset wen he had the problems a few years ago. But glad he's ok now. 🎸👍
Wow, very interesting! Says a lot about him if he even took the time to write back to you. Always nice to know when your heros are decent people as well.
Think I’ve commented once before at some point Dave but revisited today again to this wonderful video so just had to say what a great lesson re the late great Peter Green 🙌🎸🎶👏🙏
These are the kind of videos I will return to time after time. This is not just the kind of tutorial to explain where your fingers go on the fretboard, they come with a rare and precious commodity...insight. A Masterclass. Take a bow Mr. Simpson. (I don't know what you sold to the devil, but it certainly wasn't your soul).
Thank you. You have explained things better than anyone I've ever watched. You are an incredible player who took the time to explain the licks. You are wonderful
Your amazing mate I can only dream of playing that well. Though I keep trying lol . Superb video. Mind blowingly good actually thought it was Peter Green. Superb control and mastery of the fretboard. Inspiration mate
Your videos are not just a guide on how to play, its almost entertainment, its a joy watching you explain the way you do. Thanks so much for putting all the effort and knowledge in what you do with these tuts on your channel❤
You Tube has pushed this to me again after 2 years. So great to revisit it again. I too have a Vintage Lemon Drop, but have a ways to go to make it sing like you can.
That is the greatest guitar lesson 👏 . Absolutely fabulous mate. You take the student on a journey and even if we can’t find the notes that you play at least we feel like we are on the inside rather than usually when on a guitar lesson on the outside looking in.
you certainly have the understanding in you, in many ways Peter was unique, no pedals just driving the amp to do what he wanted. keep up the good work.
This is absolutely brilliant Dave. I can't get anywhere near your level of playing, but it gives me a lot of ideas of where to go with my (lack of) ability and short stubby fingers. It's great that you're putting in Danny's rhythm playing in as well, as he's completely underrated and neglected. Maybe one for the future, but I'm thinking of the awesome version of Need Your Love So Bad from the Shrine 69 album, more really subtle rhythm chords from Danny on this one, and Peter's playing is up there with his best.
I can't add anything extra to the fine comments already put up Dave. This is A Treat! And giving us the backing track and chords is very thoughtful. Many many thanks. I'm going to enjoy making a complete #@##% of myself pretending I'm playing the like bees knees! Respect as usual from Ayrshire.
So excited for this!!! Thanks much Mr Dave! Your 'play like' lessons are always so good, I've learned lots from them. In fact the way I originally found you was your video on how to play Snow by the Chilis, and was impressed by how accurate and detailed your instruction is while also keeping it simple to understand. You're a great teacher!
This came up by chance yesterday, and I've enjoyed a few of your vids in the past - but holy crap. That is just the most inspired, skillful, emotive playing. Full stop. Getting lots of coffee and gearing up for your whole Peter Green series. Cheers Dave, you are a gem.
My dad in law is a MASSIVE Peter Green fan. He’s given me homework for an upcoming Peter Green night and I must say, you’ve saved me here Dave 😂❤. Thanks for the awesome vids
Another amazing video. This is the 3rd time I have watched this now and every time I take away something more. Can't thank you enough for this series as well as all your other videos. Well done!
I think its a great educational video. And i believe you put a smile on Peters face in heaven. Peter was a very unassuming man , you come from that same tree. well done you.
I have read that it was indeed a Fender twin reverb (blackface) that he was playing. It was dimed. You can hear Peter's PAFs constantly on the edge of feedback throughout the set. He had to wrestle that bad boy to the ground more than once. Another little detail I dig is the way you can hear the crowd getting progressively more and more loud as he winds them up throughout each ascending repetition and then after the big finale they just erupt and he's so stoned he just mumbles 'yeah thanks'. lol It never ceases to amaze me how unlikely it is in cosmic terms that one of the greatest guitar players would play one of the greatest guitar pieces through one of the greatest guitar amplifiers using one of the greatest guitars ever made.. and someone recorded it and it never got lost, or damaged or forgotten. Same with Kossoff and his LP through those legendary plexis. It was just meant to happen ..
That always cracked me up, he just played the greatest guitar solo of all time and he just kind of halfheartedly mumbles, thank you. like it was no big deal.
Great video Dave you’re playing is fantastic …..thanks for taking the time to produce this wonderful lesson. Been a PG fan for years but just discovered this track on YT recently….this solo moved me so much I had a tear in my eye….very rare for a track to do this ! All the best
Hey Dave I first saw you at Anderton's Chanel and started following you . This Footage is a killer performance you passed all old and new guitar players...Congratulations .....
Great amazing fantastic video not just ok, lol When i am playing a solo in our band i just find the key and some scale to play around, look at the area of the fret board its being played, then just let the tune take me there, often its not so good, but sontimes its amazing......them amazing time keep me going at it
great vid mate ..nice and clear and thorough ..love this song for ages absolute class ..not easy to find a good tutorial ...thankyou ..PG IS A PERSONAL FAVORITE...underrated legend of legends ...too tasteful for words !! really enjoyed the vid (especially the commentary) nice one mate..and great guitar playing too...u got skills !!!!
Peter Green is seriously, seriously underrated still. Great songwriter. The Green Manalishi is the sheeeeit. People forget that the Mac were two amazing bands.
Thanks for a new video in this series, you really have given the world some amazing lessons here and I just wanted to leave a comment letting you know that your hard work is appreciated. Thanks to you and you ALONE I've learned more about Peter's playing style than I have from anyone else. I've been obsessed with Peter for going on 10 months now, an obsession that played a huge part in my recent choice of buying an ES-339 over another Strat or Tele XD
For those who want to play along this gem in standard tuning, this is the pitch-corrected version in G minor (440 Hz): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IIzmSoxx08A.html
That was a super wowsome! lesson Dave. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this in such detail. I know what I'm doing this weekend; trying some of these techniques. I love Peters music. Now I think with your lesson and that great backing track; I may be able to make some music again. Thanks again Dave, Cheers!! John (72 year young Rocker now in a rocker ;) in the U.S.A. (Born in Portsmouth U.K)
Loving the video and tone. I get something similar with my Boss Fender reverb pedal into a tweed princeton tweed (5F2A) clone. No negative feedback loop for a gainer, fuller sound.
Hey Dave, your playing just leaves me speechless. I would sell my soul to be able to play half as well as that. Many thanks for another great lesson PS: Spent the last 2 hours making colour coded scale charts after watching your brilliant lesson on ''unlocking the neck''.
This is the best thing I've seen on YT for quite some time. Thank you for giving my day a moment of brilliant heartfelt playing. Great inspiration for 2021... (You also inspired me to pick up a Peavey Bandit red stripe in an earlier Albatross rendition.) Have a great holiday season. 😊
