Dave has a great personality yet retains a humility that is refreshing. What I really like is that he gives you that release from thinking that you have to have a £2000 guitar - great to have one if its what you want and you have shed loads of spare cash, but for the rest of us it's great to see someone who will take a vintage V100 or V6 and just show that you can still sound great.
Nice, some classic Fleetwood Mac. I always loved Green's playing, such a great guitarist and some of my favourite riffs from him have always been Oh Well and Albatross
Fleetwood Mac played our blues club when they were an out and out blues band. I was playing bass in the resident band and it was a tradition that at the end of the evening we would all get back on stage and have an almighty jam. John McVie said to me 'we don't need two bass players so you play while I go and get a drink' so I can say that I once played in Fleetwood Mac(sort of!). BTW the best exponent of Peter Green's sound is Bernie Marsden. His Green and Blues album is killer.
When I was a kid my bicycle broke down and I was sat at the side of road when a tour bus stopped and out jumped Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood. "What's up?" they both asked and I pointed at the bike. Stevie said not to worry and she would fix it and soon had the bike running again. Mick looked at her and said "I didn't know you could fix bikes Stevie - did the same thing happen to you?" and she said "No, I never break the chain"
Dave has been and continues to be the biggest inspiration for me picking up a guitar again after 25+ years of not playing. I couldn't thank him enough & Andertons for doing this series. Top blokes, the lot of you.
These Dave Simpson vids are becomming the best on Andertons TV. good mix of talking, educating, playing and infotainment about gear. love it. And Mr Andertons, give this guys some toys, e.g. a Les Paul...
@@karstenhammerhansen on his own channel Dave has a Eastcoast Goldtop indeed. Give the guy a Gibson Les Paul 59 re-issue. Why? Because you can, Mr Andertons!!!!
@@famtoonen18 if you saw that vid then you'd know he's not a brand snob and only keeps guitars that he connects with on some spiritual level. It's not about what he deserves, it's about what he wants to play, not what others want to see him play.
Oh yes, now we talking. This is the one I've been waiting for. Dave "Greeny" Simpson On a side note, could we have a sweep of the amp settings that Dave uses? I think the "Orange" that Peter used was actually what is now Matamp
When BB King says falt out, that Peter Green was the only living guitarist to make me sweat. He had the sweetest tone I've ever heard? means everything. For me, Peter Green makes the hair on my arms stick up. He had one of the greatest tones and was one of the top greats of all time IMO. These episodes are fun to watch and listen to.
the best one yet! because dave is THE man for Green guitar, because it shows how TWO pedals can make all the difference in the world and because "this isn't just.. any .. youtube channel"!
I was lucky enough to see Peter Green live some years back. Although mentally he had lost much of his self, his brilliance still shone through. I feel lucky to have seen one of the true greats.
Loving these videos with Dave, a very smart collaboration 👏🏻 All these sound like pedalboards have got me thinking, I'd love to see Lee do a Ritchie Sambora one 😎👌🏻
Lmao I love how they start the video with a disclaimer that you won’t ever actually sound like Peter. Hands down the most under appreciated player ever in my opinion. Such a tragic story how his mental health issues derailed not only his career, but his life for so long. But he won’t be forgotten. Nobody will ever be like Peter Green. RIP.
I played with Peter Green in the mid eighties, it was his Birthday Bash at his local club in south London, one of his mates asked our band to play Albatross, after our rendition we recieved a hearty appreciation from his friends, then asked if he could do the number again with us, I had no idea I had played Albatross in front of the guy who wrote it, did not know him at all. He was presented a Fender Stratocaster, and turned to me and said in a most humble way, I will show you how to play this number in open chords after you end your set tonight, which he did, I was so nervous now, I were shaking, but he just played it in the same key, I played the backing, he turned to me to do some lead guitar but I declined. Think his mates wanted him to play it anyway.
Crazy, I've been aware of Peter Green for about ten years, I was familiar with a few of his songs, but yesterday I spent several hours listening to Peter, and I loved it, I even plugged in and jammed for a bit. And now today... Epic
I love (and use) reverb almost always on and never use delay, however, if someone's buying single pedals I'd highly recommend to get a delay sooner than a reverb, since you can use the former to fake the latter, which effectively gives you two sounds in one pedal. It's an old trick and you've probably covered it in other videos, but I think it needs to be repeated more often
Dave is THE inspiration for me getting back into guitar after way too long. You also owe him a curry or two Lee, as I've bought two guitars from Andertons because of him :)
Thanks for the video here, Dave , you got the finger vibrato goin on , not many people get this, Peter made me want to play guitar when i was 14, I saw Fleetwood Mac in Detroit when i was 16, Peter was there, the next year, they come to town, i go to the show, No Peter, i thought where is he? Then they played their new Album Kilnhouse, that i love, But i must say, back in the day, Danny Kirwin was a big part of that sound and playing, Always love to hear you play, and see what is up your sleeve next, Cousin Figel
Give it up for that good old sweet cream!..👏👏👏👏Definately the ONE. Amazing sound for an amazing price!. I'm gonna pick one up. Cheers guys, that was awesome. 🙏✨
LOL. I had a 'Sweet Cream' in Anderton's promotion, didn't get on with it so sold it. And me the ultimate Peter Green fan since the 1960s. Oh Well... 🙄
Unbelievable!! It means so much that Dave is bringing Peter Green to a spotlight that he deserves here on Anderton’s 🙏 Danny Kirwan was also a legend in Fleetwood Mac 💛 Now selfishly I just hope for a Paul Kossoff episode because Koss is my all time number 1 🙏💛 and I know that Lee loves Koss too! I’m not a religious man but I’m praying for a Paul Kossoff episode 🙏 I can die happy after that 😸🙏
I had a Blues Driver on my pedal board for years, playing in a covers band it could do a decent job of such a wide range of tones. Rock solid dependability too.
I keep wondering why no one is doing a clone of the blues driver- seems like a no brainer. It's up to about 125 now used and it's a fairly simple circuit that's been around for years so- you know they can clone it if they want to. None of the legit makers- JHS, Wampler, EHX, etc. will clone a pedal that's still available- I get that but, there are plenty of foreign manufacturers out there that are usually more than willing- Mosky, Caline, Joyo, etc . But as of yet- I haven't seen a clone- at least not one anyone they're admitting. Usually, even if they don't say it out right- they hint around at it until you get the point. Joyo's phaser for instance- they keep talking about how it nails those "Van Halen" tones, it's orange, and it has one knob- it's a MXR P90 clone. They could just make a blue over drive pedal- wouldn't matter what they called it- everyone would know.
Dave is so steeped in the blues...when he plays slow blues on a Les Paul it's the real deal! I'm a fan of the Boss Blues Driver....never leaves my board...great sounding pedal.
Great, fun and inspiring video again, thanks! Andertons' videos are the new/next generation Andy Demos :-) And then, let my old eyes see the day The Captain Meets Bill Steer! 🎸🎸🎸
I also love the Skysurfer. A lot of hate for it online though. Apparently there is such a thing as "too reverby". o_0 I'd invite those people to sample a Twin Reverb with tube reverb and its own reverb transformer to drive the foot long reverb tray. Please come again.
My father was customs and excise on Liverpool Docks but as a child went to Primary school with George Harrison. I have a class photo framed. I sent a print of it to Dhani his son.
Peter Green was once played our band's demo and he said he liked my guitar playing! That's my anecdote. Blues Driver is great but quite "American" sounding. Loved the Sweet Cream. Also, that Fuxx Fuzz has a great sound.
You do realize the Blues Driver is from Japan- right? Boss isn't an American company. Or are you saying it sounds like Fender? I disagree, it doesn't sound like any of the Fender amps I'm familiar with. Fender amps have a compression that's very distinguishable- the blues driver doesn't. Sounds like a blues driver to me- which I've always thought has its own unique sound. Green never had the same Marshal tone that Clapton used- tbh I don't care for Marshal but that's just a personal preference- never liked the "crunchy" tone everyone else seemed to love about them. Green had a really smooth, saturated sound when he got on it- reminiscent of brain May at times but- it's a different style of music. Very similar tone though- just a bit warmer. May used Vox, they're really chimey and lack bottom end- I think they said Green played Marshal but somehow- he was getting a different sound from it than the other guys playing Marshal.
Sorry, forgot to mention,Peter green was one of my guitar hero’s,and I’m watching this vid,and basically your saying,if you want to sound like Peter green…then you need a pedal…well sorry,I haven’t got the money to by pedals🤷🏼
Now THAT was A LOT of fun, even though I was basically just witnessing two mates playing around in their man-cave. I'm fine with that. Hadn't heard Peter Green had died. Bless. RIP.
in a nutshell...Peter Greens musical "life" was deffo too short.....by the time i got it, Fleetwood mac were already "finished" again...because i never really cared for what they did after Peter "left"...and of course people talk more about him and "his" guitar" than anything else....
IT WAS HARD TO RECORD YOUR. LIVE SOUND.EVERYONE STARTED USING SMALL AMPS CRANKED.I THINK GREEN USED A LES PAUL,BUT FEW HAD MONEY TO BUY AND EXPERIENCE THE SOUNDS,OR A LES PAUL IN ENGLAND FOR EXAMPLE IS OUT OF REACH FINANCIALLY FOR MOST BRITISH THEY OFTEN USED RICKENBACKER,COPIES.A LES PAUL FROM USA WAS A BIG DEAL AND EVEN CLAPTON HAD HIS STOLEN WHILE ON TOUR CIRCA1972
IN THE LATE SIXTIES PETER GREEN HAD THE MOST URGENT TONE. BACK THEN THERE WERE TWO PEDALS,THE TONE BENDER,AND THE FUZZ FACE.HENDRIX USED A FUZZ FACE,VISIBLE ON STAGE. THERE WERE OTHERS,SUNN BUZZ,BIG MUFF CAME IN.ELECTRO HARMONICS MADE THE LPB1 WHICH IS A LINIER EXPANDER,MAKING A 9 VOLT DEVICE THAT TRIPLED THE VOLUME.
In the mid '70's I used to visit Our Price Records regularly in Richmond listening to whatever new cool music was out, and frequently there was this guy hanging around in the corner, looking very dishevelled and playing with his massive long fingernails, probably 2 or 3 inches long.......I didn't pay much heed to him at the time but when I relayed this story to a friend in the late '80's he said " Oh yes, that was Peter Green everyone knew that that was where he used to hang out!" Such a tragedy but at least he managed to rescue his later years and enjoy his music again....I remember crowding round the record player at school and just being thrilled by the sustain on The Supernatural, RIP the genius that was Peter Green.
Dave have you had a go at the Catalinbread cloak? Along with sweet cream I took the shimmer down low and turned the reverb up and personally I think it's pretty close
Phew, I already own these pedals so no drain on the wallet today! I really enjoy these pedal demos with Dave trying to sound like someone! He also seems to really know what he's talking about, never mind being a great player!
Hi 😆 Please try Tone City Nobleman or, if available the original Nobels ODR into the Sweet Cream, fattens the sound without the huge mid hump. My favourite dynamic blues sound. Cheers 😆
What a internet crossover. Hope you are well Dave. I wired my neck to do some out-of-phase with a push pull pot. Makes a slight difference even when not in the middle.
Every person that plays guitar has their own tone it's just the feel that each of us has when we play we can emulate but we could never create the exact same tone. Peter Green is the best blues guitarist to come out of England in the respect that he sounds the most authentic of the players from the USA. Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac was the best band to come out of England in the blues genre.
These videos are great. I'm going to request a Gilmour one again. It's a hard tone to replicate on a budget because he uses so many effects. P.S. You must've been holding this one back for a while. January was three months ago even though you refer to the Vai track as coming out in the future.
Anybody got an idea what riff he's playing at 7:20 and again at about 8:10? I'm a budding Peter Green fan and love this riff minor g blues riff but I haven't been able to find the actual PG song this is from yet.
I was watching a documentary on Peter Green's comeback and when he played at the folk and blues festival there was an Andertons banner behind the band on stage!
