Jere updated Upgrade World Mod so that its now even easier than I showed in the video :) The video shows how to do it in a more technical method. If you would prefer to just use one command, you can use this one : upgrade ashlands
I am trying to just do the startTemple, the command doesn't work for me, resetlocations is a command but doesn't autofill and is doing a range of 0 without telling me how to specify one... please help.
@@felipescarton Its locations_reset , unless something else is causing your problem:) The fix Jere added that is easier is this command upgrade Ashlands
Your videos have been instrumental in helping me fix my server world that’s been running since January last year. I couldn’t bear to start over, so thank you for your awesome vids!
Unfortunately current version of Ashland isn't very good because enemies respawn every 60 seconds. I can't explore island and destroy respawn points, I don't have time to build anything. In previous regions I've built villages, towers, castles. In Ashland I just fight with waves of copy/paste enemies respawning around me. It doesn't feel like Valheim anymore
I hadn't explored it but I had gotten to where I could see the shoreline from the Mistlands. I built an outpost there so I could sail there quickly and half of it ended up in the ocean below. As I sailed across I could hear Imps dying in the depths of the ocean from where they had been spawning previously on the existing shore which was no longer. Spent about 8 hours there now and have hardly established a solid foothold as I've had hopping lava come over my earthen ramparts to explode and take out enormous portions of my build several times. Really wish the new shield generator would at least keep those mobs out.
So cool! Nervous to try this on a vanilla world... I have played on the same map since it first launched with using other seeds for Mistlands, etc. that did not spawn properly in my old world. I just really do not want to rebuild my main base, I love it a lot.
Great Job JP, that's a lotta work thanks for all the info.. too bad Iron Gate did not just add in other commands to preserve the world and any terrain or build modifications the player has made... then again if one had built in the Ashlands already, odds are they would portal into Lava lol.... Subbed for future content.. again Great coverage of the issues :)
Hey JP. My question is unrelated to this video (even though it worked and was a great help 👍). My old modded world is stuttering every 5 or so seconds, consistently, while playing on it. I don't need to be moving around/traversing the world space, for this to happen. The stutter is very slight but it's definitely there. I would describe it like the tiniest microfreeze, and it effects how smooth the gameplay feels. None of the mods I am using are deprecated. I'm not seeing any glaring amount of, or nonstop, errors in the log file. I've run modded worlds before with some occasional error messages in the log file but the game ran smoothly nonetheless. I had this exact problem back in September-ish, when the last big game update happened, and I had to retire my other old modded world that I was using at the time. When I start a new world, with the same mod list, the stuttering is not a problem. Any suggestions you have would be hugely appreciated. I don't want to retire my existing world again :( Help me JP-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope!
I have not experienced that myself, but I do get a stutter when I play, maybe every 30-60 seconds. Not sure where that happens more or less it doesnt seem to be consistent. I assumed it was just my PC. Regarding your situation Try testing it in different zones on your world. Figure out if the entire world is like that, even in undeveloped areas, or if the stuttering is limited to certain areas. The typical culprits are old terrain mods, high amounts of enemies or tamed mobs, or some kind of situation where enemies fall through objects and dissapear but dont unload (i had that on the server with ticks, gjall tick spawning would not do anything, I had to eliminate all ticks in existence to fix it) How old are we talking with this world?
@@JPValheim As far as I can tell, this issue of mine happens even in undeveloped areas. I will take a look a look at my mod list and see if any terrain mods may be the problem. I definitely have extra enemies through mods, just the usual Monstrum, Outsiders, etc. All mods being used are up-to-date, and all deprecated mods have been disabled. This world is about 1 or 2 weeks old. Started it just before the Ashlands update. This was an issue before I reset my Ashlands biome using the commands you offered in the above video, as well. I am leaning towards the game spawning in fauna or enemies in this new updated world as being the problem. But again, everything worked fine prior to the update. I'll experience occasional hiccups as per the standard Valheim experience, but a microstutter every 5 seconds? Obviously the game is trying to load or check something during these 5 second intervals and running itself into a brick wall. The obvious fix would be to say "farewell" to the old world and start fresh but I'm not ready to do that :( The world seed I ended up is superb! I found some super tall mountain tops to build on.
@@AguyR1401 Best bet is to load it up and watch the bepinex console. Theres probably a red error showing up or something, if you are seeing a stutter that often. If an error is showing up, it will help identify the cause of the problem. Out of curiosity, try this on a test world. Make a copy of the world file. Load up upgrade world mod. Load the copy world. Use the command "world_reset safeZones=2" It will eliminate everything in the world except the stuff you built. It will get rid of any paths you made unfortunately. But try it. See if it fixes the stutter.
Yup! If you have a world saved before the fall, you can set valheim to pre ashlands and load it up, copy the building with planbuild, and then paste it onto a world after ashlands
You are a treasure! Everything I needed in a concise form. I was still a bit confused what would be the most efficient way to get my very old world ready for Ashlands, but this answered my questions. Now I'll just have to decide if I want to reset the areas that border Ashlands or just delete everything that would result in floating rocks and such. Just a couple of assumptions: I assume snow and mountains at sea level in your world is a result of changed height map. Also genloc command will leave explored areas untouched. Correct?
Make sure to make a copy of your world to test it on. I dont understand all the specifics so I dont recall what it does to existing locations. It fixes the "missing locations" issue on some worlds where new biomes show up but without dungeons or enemy camps etc. The snow and moutnains at sea level is a phenomena that occurs when old words terrain are changed by force. I suppose new worlds wont have that coastal mountain. It looks awesome seeing the fir trees without snow tbh I love it !
@@JPValheim I make backups of my world and character after every gaming session. 😅Yes. Really. I might have a tiny bit of OCD... I don't keep every backup permanently, though. Just some milestone points. Fortunately Valheim backups don't take that much space. But yeah, I'll test what everything does before committing fully.
So are the new spikes shown at 1:23 not supposed to be there? These commands fixed all of the areas where AL was attached to other biomes, but I still have those spikes everywhere and the slimmer SE and SW areas out toward the ends of AL are devoid of anything but these new spikes. All of the new AL landmass is focused in the center. There was a second update for the Upgrade world mod abt an hour ago so I tried the upgrade ashlands command as well, but still no luck.
I've looked at a new world now and I guess my server looks the way it should. It's weird how little Ashlands there is to explore relative to the other biomes. Nearly half of it is just hard mode ocean it appears.
The spikes are supposed to be there :) It makes Navigating to the Ashlands more dangerous The spikes surround all of the modern Ashlands, so if you see them, that means your Ashlands have probably updated properly :)
My particularly old world has been through a lot, and it resides on a dedicated server, remote to my client. Running 'devloc' actually *crashes* my client to the desktop in the new ashlands update. Is this expected?
It shouldnt crash totally because then it wont save the changes. Sometimes its easier to download the world file, then do the actions on your PC. Then put your world back on the server
Does the genloc command undo EVERYTHING, in every, single biome? For instance, say you've cleared all of the crypts in a swamp, are all of those going to reset?
No unfortunately. All it does is regenerate the LIST of locations, not the actual locations themselves. It fixes missing locations but thats pretty much it
@@JPValheim That's actually a good thing. There's another mod to reset things like that if you really want to do that. I didn't want to undo progress, just fix the wiped ashlands! It worked great, everything worked great. Fixed the spawn stones too, that cramming was annoying me so much! Awesome! Thanks for this huge piece of info! What a life saver!
Hi @JPValheim I have a question about resetting global keys. My friend has a server that he wants to be noob friendly and doesn't want dangerous creatures spawning at night to kill them. What is the process to use the Resetkeys command? I don't know if the admin needs mods on just the server or on both client and server. Any help would be much appreciated.
I dont understand how it works exactly, but this is what I do to prevent the goblins / seekers / ash creatures To do most devcommands on the server, the server needs serverdevcommands mod installed, and the player needs to be added to the list in config. Alternatively, one can just download the world file, and then the serverdevcommands mod is not necessary. But that is tedious to do often You would need to run this command, vanilla valheim, on an admin account. No mods necessary except wht I mentioned before. Every time Yagluth dies, this command needs to be run to stop the night spawns of goblin removekey defeated_goblinking Every time The Queen dies, this command needs to be run t stop the night spawns of seekers removekey defeated_queen
Yup! Check out the docs and test it out yourself. Theres always a way to get UWM to work, its just a matter of how github.com/JereKuusela/valheim-upgrade_world/blob/main/README.md
I didn't get my world repaired, I am in need of some help please. I downloaded it from the Server wo my client. Started it opened the console entered devcommands then genloc and exactly what you mentioned happened. The world got frozen for approx 1 min and then I could play as usual but when I enter. I then installed Nexus and the Upgrade World mod with the Nexus installed, when I open the console again and try to use the "zone_reset minDistance=7600 force" command I get an error message "zone_reset is not a recognized command", what am I doind wrong ? Thank you for all help and thank you for your Videos. locations_reset StartTemple is also not working for me ...
It sounds like server devcommands isn't installed - server devcommands is a dependency for Upgrade World Mod. Here are links to the mods you need www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/1485 www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/1308
Also, there is an even easier command now. You can just use upgrade Ashlands That will do everything you need. The video shows how to do it a more technical way. The mod creator added a simplified method shortly after I published the video
@JPValheim A few questions... I am running an old world on a dedicated server. I logged into a copy of it locally and it seems to have POI points in the Ashlands but there is indeed a bunch of messed up terrain. I figure I will use the genloc command anyway but I have a few other questions. What would be my actual order of operations to fix all these things? Do I have to copy down the server and spin it up locally with that mod? Can I do all this with it running on the dedicated server? (assuming no). If I copy it down and run it locally to do the fixes with the mod, do I need to run that mod on the dedicated server when I reupload it there? What is up with that upgrade ashlands command? Does that just automatically run the fix 7200 commands? Any further help on this would be much appreciated, thank you!
The easiest way is like this 1) download a copy of your world from the server 2) instal the Upgrade World Mod and load the world up on single player 3) run the command "upgrade ashlands" 4) run the command 'genloc" (just in case, might not be necessary) 5) after the commands have finished, check the world. Look for spikes around Ashlands, the spikes should surround all of Ashlands. The spikes are your confirmation that it worked usually 6) after confirming it worked, replace the world file on your server with the new one. After doing the mods the single=player way you do not need to use the mod again on the server. Technically the commands work on the server, if you install ServerDevcommands and Upgrade World. But, running the commands on the server can be finicky to setup for some other reasons (some people do not see the start and stop prompt without modifying their bepinex config), so its usually easier to just download the world file and modify it locally. Everything should be good to go after that. The "upgrade ashlands" command does everything I showed manually in the video, it was added fairly recently
Ok thank you so much for the fast reply. One more question, I scouted the Ashlands on my server and everything seems to be fine including all the spikes seem to be there. The massive problems I noticed were other biomes on the border and just off the border. Plains, and other areas a few hundred yards north of the burning ocean border are totally screwed up. Will the upgrade Ashlands command fix those too?
Yeah, all the mods are BepInEx mods pretty much. Easiest thing to do is install it with r2modman that way it takes care of everything for you, you just pick the mods from a dropdown
Thats how it was for me on the dedicated server. It turned out to be a config setting in the bepinex config on the server. There were two I changed. [Chainloader] ## If enabled, hides BepInEx Manager GameObject from Unity. ## This can fix loading issues in some games that attempt to prevent BepInEx from being loaded. ## Use this only if you know what this option means, as it can affect functionality of some older plugins. ## # Setting type: Boolean # Default value: false HideManagerGameObject = true ## If enabled, will prevent closing the console (either by deleting the close button or in other platform-specific way). # Setting type: Boolean # Default value: false PreventClose = true
You have to install the mod Upgrade World and its dependencies here www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/1485 Easiest way is to use r2modman or thunderstore mod manager r2modman.com/
I’m currently waiting for my friends to get back into the game, we have a portal outside of the queen boss. While I wait I want to travel to the ashlands.. will the genloc command change up the queens spawn? We don’t have any active mods on this play through
The genloc command doesn't actually regenerate the locations in the physical world, it sorta, regerates the "list" of where the locations should be. Something like that. Either way, make a copy of your world and test it first. I do not believe it wil change the location of the queens spawner you found; but let me know if it does
Not sure if anyone knows, but is it the same commands for console? I play on Xbox, and after the update I went through a portal to an infested mine that was in the upper part of the map. I guess it was too close to the deep north, because when it loaded in, the mine is still there but all the terrain is broken, my portal broke (cuz it was now floating lol) so I just logged out and reloaded an old save before I went through the portal. I’d love to be able to fix these locations, so I’m hoping the commands are the same?
You have to put the world file on a PC, use modded valheim with Upgrade World, then put the world back onto the xbox. I dont have an Xbox myself so im not sure how that works. If you dont put the world file onto the PC, you will only have access to the "genloc" command in an xbox console
That happened for me until I changed two config setting in the BepInEx.cfg file on the server. Have you tried this? [Chainloader] ## If enabled, hides BepInEx Manager GameObject from Unity. ## This can fix loading issues in some games that attempt to prevent BepInEx from being loaded. ## Use this only if you know what this option means, as it can affect functionality of some older plugins. ## # Setting type: Boolean # Default value: false HideManagerGameObject = true ## If enabled, will prevent closing the console (either by deleting the close button or in other platform-specific way). # Setting type: Boolean # Default value: false PreventClose = true
It could also be possible that you need to add your steam ID in the config file for Upgrade World. The file is called upgrade_world.cfg Look for this part and add your steam ID ## SteamIDs that can execute commands on servers (-1 for the dedicated server). If not set, then all admins can execute commands. # Setting type: String # Default value:
@@JPValheim ok, I have done all your recommendations and to no resolve :/ I even set the upgrade world to auto do it without start and its not regenerating the floating islands and trees lol..
The zones_reset command doesn't work on xbox... anyway around that or a command specific to do it on xbox?... genloc worked... but the zone reset doesn't and my map into ashlands is wonky still
Hey man great video thank for the information! One slight problem that i noticed though, and i don't know if it's fixable or not. The new generated(upgraded map) doesn't match the actual world map that you see when pressing M. I'm guessing im seeing the old generated world. For context im on a 4 month old server and i slightly encountered Ashlands so i wanted to fix the experience. If there's a way to fix the map wrongly appearing the old unupgraded world please let me know, cause i might just start a new world tbh i dont rly know. Thanks :)
Hmmmmm, I'm wondering how to fix that, my server used to do that too, but something stopped it... Hmmmm. You've tried running the upgrade Ashlands command with Upgrade World Mod?
@@JPValheim Yes i upgraded ashlands even tried with the zone_reset. World seems to update but the map doesn’t keep up and provides the wrong info. For example i seem to be in the water but map appears Black Forest or mountains.
Those commands are part of the Upgrade World mod. The only command that works without Upgrade World mod is "genloc". If its still not working with upgrade world mod then probably something is out of date or installed in the wrong place There is an easier command for Upgrade World Mod to do everything shown in the video automatically. It is "upgrade ashlands"
You have to install the Upgrade World mod for that command to work. I recommend you use r2modman or thunderstore mod manager; that way it installs and updates everything for you easily. www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/1485
For most of the commands, It has to be done on a PC, you could do it on xbox if you get the world file and then modify it on a PC. There is one command available on xbox, "genloc" which will regenerate missing locations (a specific problem to old worlds where dungeons and forts and such do not show up in new biomes)
OOOH! Are you talking about the "Great Place to Die" server? I havent fixed that server yet, I have been neglecting it. The Ashlands there must be a mess, because it was already full of explored stuff lol
Id love to know what that server is like, I used to pa attention to it a year ago, but I havent been reseting it much, and then Ashlands came out... it must look super crazy xD
Why the feck did you only mention at 5:22 that a mod is required... that should be mentioned, i dont know, at the fucking start maybe?? talk about a waste of bloody time....
What a useless comment ! Do you want to learn how to fix worlds, or do you want to complain about the free information you are learning from? Its not possible to fix worlds without using mods to do the operations
@@JPValheim Useless comment for a nearly useless video, seems appropriate to me xD I'm fine with using mods to fix things, but actually knowing that a mod is required at the start would be cool.
Do you not understand that the video is an illustration of the common problems with old worlds, and how to fix them? Why are you under the impression that its even possible without mods?
People like you are such a pain. Watch content and complain about it. How entitled. I guess you are used to other people making things for you so you don't have to do things the hard way, eh?
@@JPValheim I was under that impression because of the intro to the video where you state the devs added commands to help fix the ashlands update, so without any other info for 3-4 mins, I assumed the whole video was vanilla commands. That is a pretty reasonable move imo. I know I did not state it in a nice constructive way but, my comments are not useless as you stated (and neither is your vid :P ) but you really should have mentioned the mod at the start, so people know and don't start flaming you in the comments ;)
when i did the genloc command it worked and froze as normal. but after it unfroze, i got no information in my devcommand log... it just says genloc as the last thing... did i do something wrong?
Thats fine, you wont see the extra info unless you have BepInEx installed. As long as you run it, you should be okay. Make a copy of the world and run it and look around to see if it worked
I have a kind of problem that I can't solve: I have a base in what used to be a camp on the plains, after having upgraded to Ashlands part of the terrain "raised" covering part of the structures I built, but I don't change the location per se. In some areas my character seems to sink into the ground when walking around, is there a way to resolve this?
Our server had that problem in some spots and they eventually went away. You can try the "optterrain" command, which helps with some issues from old terrain. If that does not work, you can try using a mod like PlanBuild or Infinity Tools to reset the terrain to it's default state. Sometiems that fixes issues like that. Just make sure to test it on a copy world first
