In this drum lesson, Pat Levett teaches you how to play the Rebirth Groove. Part of Pat's New Orleans drumming course on MusicGurus.com.
The Clave pattern originated in African music traditions and was imported into New Orleans music. Clave is a key rhythm and its influence extends to rock, pop, hip hop - and the Rebirth Groove.

That was me! I take care of video production for MusicGurus. Point taken on the camera angle. Since we shot this course with Pat, we've created other courses using a side view - agree that the top view is not ideal. Pat's NOLA course is still amazing & inspiring though! Thanks for your feedback and check out MusicGurus.com for more.

Is there sheet music for this? I'm not great at following videos but I can play anything if it's written down.

This guy says "The Clave pattern originated in African music traditions and was imported into New Orleans music" That may be true but the only place in New Orleans where one can find that beat ("street beat") is in marching bands and particularly marching bands from the 1940s on. The historic pioneer New Orleans music - of Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, King Oliver - doesn't show any period recordings featuring this beat. In fact, Morton emphasized a habanera "Spanish tinge" as he called it, but no street beat before 1940s. Of course, New Orleans music now means Dr. John style, rock and roll, and other outgrowths that have completely lost any connection to the original hot jazz styles.
