I've had a set of these dice for years and had no clue how to play. Thanks

unlike real poker, in poker dice the straight beats the full house because its less common. swap 3+4 on the hand rank list and you are then correct

I’d play Poker Dice often with my late mother after she introduced me to the game,that was forty plus years ago and I’d totally forgotten about them until today while out Christmas shopping with my wife i came across a M.Y Home Casino set of two decks of playing cards with poker dice in between. My wife had never heard of them before and tonight is now game night. Thanks for the nice clear refresher video 🙌

I've never heard the rule that you can rerole previously kept dice. I'm sceptical of this, I always thought once you'd stuck with a die, you'd stuck with it.
@reillywalker195
@reillywalker195 3 месяца назад
Either rule is acceptable so long as it's agreed on before playing. Normally, though, you're allowed to reroll as many dice as you'd like.

No, no, no. This is not how to play poker dice. First: The ranking is wrong. A straight is higher than a full house in poker dice. In poker with cards a full house is higher, but not in poker dice. It's a probability fact and it's simply a matter of comparing how many full houses can be made with 5 dice contra how many straights. Straights are less and therefore higher. Secondly: The first shooter of the dice, the banker, has the choice of how many throws he wants; 1 throw, 2 throws or 3 throws and no other player can make more throws than the first shooter. Thirdly: Dice set aside cannot be thrown again by a player. Fourth: Yes, poker dice can be played as a pot game, but it's best played as a banking game as it is intended to be. Once, poker dice was a Casino game and that version was called "Klondike", but was later replaced with "Faro" which in turn was replaced with "Black Jack". Now days, poker dice is played as a "private game". In this game, one person is established as the banker, and all other players make even money bets against the bank. If a player makes a $10 bet, then they stand to either win or lose $10 depending on the roll of the dice. When a player is established as the banker, they put up an initial stake known as the bank, or center bet. Once they have placed their stake, and announced the amount, the other players have a chance to cover or "fade" their bet. Starting with the player to the banker's left, and proceeding clockwise around the circle, each player in turn can fade a portion of the bank, as much as they like, until the entire bank is covered or every player has had a chance to make a bet. If the initial stake is $100, the first player might choose to fade $20, the next player $20, and the next player $60. Then the entire bank is covered and no more bets are placed this round. Or, if the initial stake is $100, six players choose to fade $10 each, and no one else wishes to bet, then the banker pockets the unfaded portion of the bank ($40) and plays for only the stakes that were covered. The banker shoot the dice first and makes his best combination with one throw, two throws or three throws. All the other players in turn or player with a bet against the banker, tries to beat the banker with the same amount of throws as the banker, beginning with the player to the bankers left and if successful wins the bet, otherwise lose the bet. With a tie, no money is won or lost. After all players had their turn, the bets are settled according to the roll of the dice. If the same player maintains control of the bank, he may add as much money as he wishes to his stake, or let the bank stand at whatever amount remains after all the bets are settled. A new round begins, the players fade again just as above, and so the game continues. Control of the bank can change under certain circumstances. If all the players beat the banker in one round, they break the bank, and control of the bank then passes to the next player to the banker's left, who establishes his own initial stake as above. A banker can also withdraw the bank at anytime after all the bets are settled and let the next player to the left to be the new banker who makes a new center bet.

Several variations of this game exist, so you can't say any version is "right" or "wrong". The version described in _Hoyle's Rules of Games_ by Morehead and Mott-Smith doesn't count straights at all, for example. The "right" way to play is therefore what the table agrees to.
@filmtajm35
@filmtajm35 2 года назад
@@reillywalker195 No, no, no. It does very much certainly exist right and wrong. 1. The mathematical probabilities of poker dice dictate it exist 7,776 possible combinations. Of these 7,776 combinations are 300 a "Full house". A "Straight" have 240 combinations. A "Straight" is therefore higher in ranking then a "Full house". 2. People can of course use poker dice for any purpose the want, but that's not "Poker dice". "Poker dice" is a game in its own right. No serious gambler will not even touch a home made game with Mickey Mouse rules. Nor should anyone else.
@RickJaeger
@RickJaeger 2 года назад
1) Why should everyone else be beholden to what "serious gamblers" do. 2) A "bust" in dice poker is actually more unlikely than a pair. In fact, a bust is less likely than two pair. If hand strength alone is purely inversely proportional to likelihood, then the "bust" should be a stronger hand than either of those. 3) I'd also like to know how you arrived at these numbers. 7,776 _is_ the right number for all the possible combinations of five six-sided dice (6^5). But how precisely did you arrive at 240 for the number of ways to get a straight? That's just my curiosity speaking.
@filmtajm35
@filmtajm35 2 года назад
@@RickJaeger Yes, of course, you can play poker dice with whatever crazy rules and rankings as you want. But if you play the game with gamblers, you have to play with the correct odds. Otherwise you will sit there alone with your new shiny dice in your hand and have no one to play with. More or less as the Money Wheel in a Casino. No serious gambler will play that game. It's true a bust hand in Poker dice with its 480 combinations is higher than three of a kind, but less than a full house. But for historical reasons, the resemblance of poker played with cards and for the simplicity of the game, a bust hand is not counted and is ranked as nothing. For all other information I refer to Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poker_dice
@RickJaeger
@RickJaeger 2 года назад
@@filmtajm35 Gee, I'll keep that in mind if I want to play with "gamblers." They sound like a riot. If resemblance to card poker is enough to allow bust hand to retain a lower value, it stands to reason that resemblance to card poker is enough for any other hand to retain its own relative ranking.

When you play with regular dice, you can just treat 6 as the highest rank and 1 as the lowest. That makes straights more obvious, too, assuming you choose to count straights (not everyone does).

Not necessarily. If you're playing for money, everyone will probably be paying attention to what everyone else rolls to keep each other honest, so they're likely to remember what you rolled.

If that hand combination came up in the casino, I think the hand would be a draw between the two players, so no points would be awarded (or the pot would be evenly split if you were betting).

Look at the set of 3 first. The best is Aces, then Kings, Queens, Jacks, Tens with Nines the lowest. If both players have the same set of 3s then look at the pairs. In the unlikely event that two or more players throw the same dice then it's a tie and the pot is splt. Example #1: Player one rolls Q Q Q 9 9 and player two rolls J J J A A. Player one wins because Queens rank higher. Example #2: Player one rolls A A A J J and player two rolls A A A K K Player two wins because Kings rank higher. If you're playing with regular dice the order is (usually) 1, 6. 5, 4, 3, 2 and the principle is the same as above. In your example three 1 and two 6 beats three 2 and two 5

Yes, you can. But you need more dice. Two dice for every player who plays plus three more. Plus a dice cup for each player and play exactly the same as for the card version. But you would have a enormous cheating problem if you played with dice instead of cards.
