@Erick yeah, I've actually done several things to add more distortion without a pedal since I made this comment. Like raising my pickups and messing around with amp settings, and the position of my amp
im using a crate chorus reverb amp that has 220 watts on it and i bought from a pawn shop for $180 sounds sick when im playing this song but when i played on my $30 Kona amp lets just say the distortion on that sucks lol
Thanks for much for this man! There are so many inaccurate slipknot tabs all over the internet. I think mainly because a lot of younger kids tab them out and they just don't have the ears for tabbing things out accurately especially with all the gain in the song. Sounds great dude!
How are you doing with this song, you have it down solid?! This is the style of playing I love so I am focusing now on this with anything else being an after thought in means of style. What are you playing on (guitar and amp)? I sadly am stuck with Drop C on my Squier Strat with 11-54 gauge strings. Not right but it sounds good without playing along with the song. Work with what you got, right?! ☯️
You can tune ur strat down to Drop B you have heavier gauge strings so its not gonna be as Slinkey like but i understand its hard because the pickups are weak on that guitar but if you keep practicing you will get it I have a Ibanez grg121dx and a fender mustang lt25 and i am able to get the song to sound good with the harmonics and distortion.
@@purplekyber4245 I appreciate that! The reason I keep my Squier Strat’ in Drop C is for it’s the only Electric I got for the moment and won’t be changing any time soon. So, in order to play a wider range of Music Drop C is as Low as I shall go and besides it’ll need adjustment with the trust rod and etc. I am due for a proper set up though so perhaps then I might go for it! I need a better nut (black tusk nut) and same material for better string trees. The two more important upgrades i will be getting when I take her (my Squier Strat’ guitar) with the pick up swap being a much more in the future thing. I am honestly jsut considering a Esp Ltd 1000 with an Evertune bridge. Currently I have a project amp in the works first. Pinched harmonics are still not consistent yet though I may have just made a breakthrough playing last night. Do excuse me for the rant. I won’t explode in the future, alright? Oh, I have found that with a decent amplifier it can make even a Squier sound great. All a matter of learning how to use what you got. I roll off the volume to get the tone I Like which is a must to get a growl and switch between pickup positions to get different sounds for what I am playing. Rolling off the master volume on my guitar to clean it up though I play with fuzz so it’s always a bit lean ‘n’ mean but sounds great! I don’t remember the exact specifics but Slipknot started playing cheaper gear such as that amplifier which was basically a cheaper version of a Marshall JCM 900. Much more interesting to play on something other than the norm’ go to’s!!! ☯️
+Giancarlo Scrimenti that makes it a lot harder actually, its not the pushing down that matters but lightly brushing the string with your thumb while you push through the note
+David van Brakel Its called a pinch harmonic, you pick the string as hard as you can and then basically lightly "scoop" it with your finger to create the harmonic sound, Andy does the harmonic on the E string which can be a little bit hard sometimes specially if you dont have full control of the technique .. I rather recommend doing it on the D string same fret is way easier to get. Hope it helps
@@dropdead8886fuck do u mean distortion pickups... are u saying passive pickups cant do the same as an active pickup.every single pickup out there can do distortion IF YOU DISTORT THE SIGNAL WITH A PEDAL or y'know amp gain maybe some jazzy hollow body guitars suck at that and definetley piezo pickups wich arent true pickups
0:50 is were the whole thing is, but I'm seriously so stoked on how to play this, I've just got my first electric guitar last month and already know how to play duality, but this😂, this is way harder!
BRO awesome guide THANK YOU! This helped me a lot and now I can FINALLY play this damn song accurately. None of the websites have ever helped me. Always get the wrong tabs.... Derden KO is AMAZING
Ok, notes are all well and good, BUT, what are you using for distortion and what string diameter or gauge, are you throwing? I only have a little Glarry 5 string, standard tuning, and did drop a, sounded to whack for me. I grew up with classical music, Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner and the like....but, I love thick sound, hence the question. So, please advise, anyone! Btw, I only have a little Fender frontman 10g, but this little guy makes the great room vibrate!
If you watch Jim Root play this he plays the opening notes on the 2 and 3rd fret E string with the harmonic on the D string 3rd fret. Sounds much better. Great tutorial though mate. Thankyou.
tell me if im being stupid but my tone is so awful and like mushy and my strings are really lax when i tune down that far, can someone help lol, i might just need to restring? but yeah ive been playing for way too long not to know this stuff
need some advice.....I use a .73 plectrum and am struggling to fast strum/thrash, my question is would I be better moving to a more flexible plectrum or is it just technique that needs working on. leave a comment thanks
Stuart me You just need to work on it. If you go much thinner you start to hear like a little click every time you pick a string. I use 2.5mm picks and am able to do it just fine. It may take some work, but just keep trying and you'll get it.
Late to the party but I have a question. On all the 6 strings I see tuned to a drop A, there is always something used as a dampener above the nut. Any reason Why?
Its called a Fret Wrap. Its to mute the ringing sound from the head stock on some guitars. Mostly for recording or playing live. It can be used lower on the neck to mute the strings for solos too.
Man I miss playing guitar, my hands have bad carpeltunnel and lock up on me after about 10 minutes of practice, so I had to give it up. I miss it a lot. I felt like I could no longer practice long enough to improve more than where I was at after 10 years. I can play stuff like Metallica, Pantera but I have to stop in the middle of songs, and it hurts. I been thinking about getting myself a set of electric drums to play on bc I miss playing music a lot, had to subsidize my music with video games.
Start doing some manual labor. Using a heavy hammer or even just carry a pile of bricks from one part of your yard, or just carry one around between your thumb and fingers. Build strength in your hands and beast the axe.
@@SavDog262 unfortunately I can't do heavy labor or even work out, I'm a severe factor 8 hemophiliac, my joints are super damaged from years of internal bleeding in my joints, it's irreversible and working out actually makes me bleed, then I can't walk the next day, makes things complicated. Thinking about getting some drums, I can hold sticks just fine.
At the beggining of the video, you can see "Ltd" handwritten on the headstock. The brand is called ESP Ltd, but some of their guitars have ESP written on the headstock and others have Ltd, I really don't know the difference, but I hope I helped you
I like the tutorial, but the intro part is not exactly how its really played. The pinch harmonic is played on the 3rd string and not the 2nd string, which makes a higher squeel and sounds exactly the same as in the song. Nontheless I like the tutorial! :)
Am I the only one who thinks the high note in the opening riff is a bit too low pitch (I’m a beginner guitarist tho so I couldn’t tell you what I think it actually is)
