How to play Red Dead Redemption 2 in a VR Headset Using Reshade

I've had quite a number of people asking how I managed to get this working and playable in my Quest 3 so i've done a set up guide to get you going.
This game can be played with full head tracking with opentrack, but due to the Rockstar CLub opening up everytime you hit the "Home" key, it makes opening the Reshade Menu a problem but I've included a workaround for that.
This game is a must play in Reshade and I've played more of it in VR than on flat screen but if you encounter any issues in getting it set up, then please give me a shout.
(Otherwise, sorry for taking so long in getting this guide sorted, UEVR kinda caught me off guard)

I bought this game a few years ago to play with the Luke Ross Mod but we know what happened with that, didn't know you could play It with Reshade even though I've been using it for a few years, I was going to play my first UEVR game Jedi fallen order, but I think I'll play this first, especially knowing you can use opentrack to turn your head, thanks, I let all the ads play😉

Hope it helps you dude. I only played with gamepad and that was enough for me, let me know how you get on with it. I've loved making all the RDR2 vids and thoroughly enjoyed playing it in my headset. One of the best reshade experiences I've ever had the pleasure of playing

Favorite game of all time. Just got my first VR hopefully my gaming laptop with a 3050 Ti can handle processing. It handles the game by itself perfectly. BTW at 6:50 you might want to clear you cheat engine out of your recents. lol

Thanks for the vid! What resolution are you playing at? Mine is 1080 and just looks jaggy. And how to make it completely full screen?

I'm also playing at 1080 on an RX6600XT gpu and a Ryzen 9 3900x cpu with 32gb ram and I'm on full screen using High settings

Hi and congratulations on the video. On my side, I could make Opentrack and Reshade work, but when in Virtual Desktop's official version (non-Steam version), I turn on HALFBSB, it never enters 360º VR mode; it just shows the game on a big screen. Can you help me on this??

So you have the game working with open track, then it sounds like you might need to zoom in to the screen to put it an acceptable distance from your face. I think it is the F2/3/4 keys to zoom in/out and recentre view

Thanks for the great vid. I use [droid cam -> ai track -> open track] for flight sim and sim racing, works well, and works OK in couple of first person games with mouse emulation yaw&pitch, but not in RDR2 for some reason. Tracking octopus responds normally but no action in game, any view. Anyone else try this?

I've not actually tried this myself as I've only ever used open track, which does seem to work on most games I've tried it with. It does work very well with RDR2 too but does kinda make you feel like a tank turret when you're on horseback lol

It would be interesting to see a similar tutorial, only with GTA V Vr mod + Natural Vision Evolved (free version from April 2024). I tried, but GTA V 1.0.1806.1 (like this version) does not start with this NVE+ vr mod. And with the Natural Vision Remastered mod, everything is fine.

I've never been able to get GTA V running in VR outside of using the Luke Ross mod and I don't have any experience of the program you're referring to. I did try to get it running in the same way as RDR2 but it just didn't seem to want to work unfortunately 😕

have you done some grafiksettings ? i have error with reshade, its flickering, i meen settings like dlss, vulkan, fsr

Everything I did to get it running is explained in the video. When you install Reshade it should be using Vulkan

Yes it is an alternative, that isn't locked down by lawyers so you can play it and have a great experience as a cowboy entirely in a VR headset

@@headset-vr6310 I can't be in full VR, virtual desktop gives me a big screen in VR. You would have an idea? how do you connect the headset? mine is with steamVR, then it opens oculus software

@SwiftTurbo just turn it on when you have launched the game. I don't usually boot up steamvr but from there just set up reshade and enable SBS on virtual desktop

Unfair to say really as I've only ever used classic. Not sure if it would make a difference tbh

Mine doesn't start in "full screen", stays flat. Any idea how to fix? SteamVR is off. Using VD classic from steam.

Personally I wasn't using SteamVR, I'd just start up the Oculus app and launch the game from there after installing reshade ofc

Do you know how to fix the game lagging when I get to the cabin in the first mission? it only shows it stuttering in the headset but runs fine in the window

Do you play with a link cable or using airlink? If it's the latter, I've had lag issues with airlink before
