I want to learn but I'm having trouble the first few chords... how do I go from 5 to 8 in one stroke as done in the video? I copied your finger placement but when I press the 8 string the noise is cancelled.
@MZguitar
@MZguitar 2 года назад
I will assume you mean the part at 0:51 Pick 5. Then, you'll want to play 8 but without picking it. You'll need to hammer on with your left hand. You want to hammer on strongly enough that the note rings out. Simply hammer on stronger. Bring your finger down harder and squish the string under it. This may be a bit tedious at first, but as you get used to it, you'll start to use just enough force. It's helpful to exaggerate at first as you build it up. It's also important that you are muting the 6th string and the strings under the 5th to avoid any unnecessary noise.

@@MZguitar is it better to afford money in a good sound card and use an amp simulator or to buy a good amp ? im a begginer tho so this question might seem stupid
@MZguitar
@MZguitar 3 года назад
@@flashroyal9933 It's a pretty good question. I'm surprised not many people ask this. In my opinion it's better to get a good sound card and a good amp & fx simulator. It's a lot less costly on so many levels and just as good if not better. It's also really good incase you don't know how to set-up your own tone. The simulator I use (Bias FX 1) has a cloud with many presets uploaded by people who know what they're doing so I can just download good tones and play. If you get an amp and you want effects, you'll have to get separate pedals. Most amp simulators the price of a single or two pedals come with many available virtual pedals/effects. It's also much better for recording if you eventually want to do that. The guitar sound goes straight into your laptop through the soundcard after all. Where as with an amp if you want a proper recording, you need to purchase a mic and something to isolate sound interfering with the recording and set those up.

@@MZguitar At 1:06, if tried but I can't get it to sound as loud or good as yours
@MZguitar
@MZguitar 2 года назад
@@kylevernon8405 Well, I doubt it's a problem of technique as the execution is pretty simple and you're probably already doing it right. You just loosen up and slide backwards on the string. In the song it can be heard but it's not overly loud. The only reason I'd say it's loud when I'm playing it is because of the guitar tone that I'm using in this video. It's got reverb and delay on it, which is prolonging and enhancing the slide sound. I'd say it's rather unpleasant. Nowadays I don't use this guitar tone for riffs so this problem isn't there anymore. Point being, the slide out sound isn't something to be emphasized unless you personally wish to do so. If you've got some distortion on, then the slide out sound will be loud enough that it's got the intended effect. If you want it to be louder, add some reverb or delay to your tone and maybe even more distortion.

I actually tried that one out recently but it turned out the song uses an 8 String guitar. It's somewhat unavoidable in the bridge. I might try arranging a 6 string version for it and make a tutorial for that.

Isn’t it in D standard? Like you said tune down a whole step but you said it’s in drop D which doesn’t make sense
@MZguitar
@MZguitar 3 года назад
I precisely said "The tuning is Drop D. That is STANDARD E WITH THE LOWEST 6TH STRING tuned down 1 whole step" I said it's Standard E but only the sixth string (the low E) is tuned down a whole step. Making it, a drop D tuning.

MZ guitar I am also curious. I’m not a total beginner but I haven’t played in about 2-3 years so I want a song to help ease back into it, but I also want to relearn while playing good rock songs like this.
@MZguitar
@MZguitar 4 года назад
Well the first to get good at if you're a complete beginner is strumming power chords in all sorts of different rythms in both Standard and Drop tunnings. Pop punk bands and some rock bands are great for this. Aside from the ramones and green day, I'd say three days grace and sum 41 also have songs that fit into that category.A band that plays does a lot of power chord strumming and some fair amount of palm muting is Alestorm. Try avoiding any songs with excessive palm muting at the beginning until you have power chords strumming down to the bone. After that you can start getting into songs such as shepherd of fire and more riff centric songs. This is how you'd do it if you wanted to get by with the least amount of frustration as a complete beginner. Hypothetically speaking, you could literally jump into any song you'd like and practice it till the end of time and you'd eventually get it. That doesn't sound very fun though.
@MZguitar
@MZguitar 4 года назад
Check my other comment in this thread. If you feel comfortable with strumming powerchords in all sorts of rythms in both standard and drop tunings then you can delve into songs like this. Best to play the rythm guitar in the solo section in this case.
