I might have some tips: - ping between the middle and rear end of the enemy, that way if they turn out or in, the homing will compensate for them turning or slowing down - shoot torpedoes at the predicted position as if you were firing dumbfire torps. then only ping when the torpedoes are half underway, that way the enemy has too little time to course correct - shoot torpedoes with a 2 second interval, that way they can't dodge the entire wave, even if they have hydro on - shoot torpedoes only at enemies that are coming towards you or show their broadside, there is no point in trying to hit enemies that run away - you can shotgun from maximum depth by pinging and then firing torpedoes, meaning you can kill enemies that hydro search for you - never try to ping enemies from close range using hydrophone, too many things can go wrong, you give away your location at close range, the enemy can still DCP it and at close range, the torpedoes do not have time to course correct - depth charges drop to 30m so you take less splash damage on 60m or on the surface - drive at 90 degrees to the enemy when pinging, that way you are least likely to be accurately ASW bombed

A good follow up would be a guide on how to play against submarines (for each other artillery boat class/with each type of ASW/with and without utility consumables) as this is a very common topic of... complaint, shall we say.
At the minimum, its content for us and ad revenue for you. That being said, You, Potato Quality and Sea Lord Mountbatten have basically summed up ASW by telling people that they should play subs as to get a more intimate idea on how to properly counter. Not sure how specific you could be outside of this video lol but I'll watch it anyways
If the sub is alone with no support drive at them if your above them they cant torp you but attempting to do that and retain a HP pool well keep spamming your asw and hope your team have an IQ to support. The amount of BBs that are in range of a sub yet can't grasp using their asw is shocking ....... Other than that if your out numbered , either leave and try to use a lot of islands if you can to block tracking of torps sent your wayor stay out of range , which with range of some sub torps aint easy if they know what they are doing.
he is so right about the british submarines, it's a very cool concept, a big battery and slow speed but its also super un-fun and not very strong as people can charge you down with hydro without problem and you can't as hard as other submarines they should probably start by giving thrasher a 29 surface speed and 25 underwater speed or something. but it gets better as the british hydrophone is only 6 km range, not 8 km, so your hydro has less range than your surface spotting.

OMG ich liebe die Thrasher!!! Mein absolutes Lieblings Sub und auch ich hab die 2501, die 4501, die Balao und die S-189, aber keine macht mir so viel Spaß wie die thrasher. Faszinierend. Du hast auch gar nicht erwähnt warum die Tjrasher Hydro limitiert ist: sie hat einen schnelleren Ping Intervall als alle anderen. In Verbindung mit der Tauchzeit und der Torpedo Anzahl (die übrigens mega gut tracken) ist die thrasher ein Monster um bestimmte Zonen (wie den Cap) zu bearbeiten
At tier 10, average damage of German, US and UK submarines are all about 36k. Underpowered. Roughly the same. I don’t understand why people offer opinions without checking basic statistics which will confirm or invalidate their opinion.

Slot 1 you want DCP. Slot 2 engine is useless on submarines so you take DCP. Slot 4 prop' mod only if you plan on starting/stopping a lot, otherwise planing.
This is a great guide, thank you! I would like to see you talk about strats and strengths of the American subs. BTW, the Soviet premium S-189 has a 9km ASW hydrophone like the Germans but also the long DCP like the US subs which I like to use the DCP upgrade in slot 1 for having that longer non-flood/fire if I get dropped on but also not being able to get pinged by an enemy sub immediately after a DCP use. I have my Balao up to a 22.1s action time for DCP with a 51s cooldown which can save your butt when things go wrong and they usually do. 🙂
Informative! Finally a sub guide not by a potato. Now I don’t need to play subs to figure out their perks. Subs (especially Gato) are still really stupid though. Sub gameplay incentivizes the average player to yolo shotgun every match, which is equivalent to having T2 DD gameplay at TX. I feel I lose braincells after each match at a higher rate now.

Hey guys, just starting out wows, I wanna play submarines , what's the best sub to start with? And any reason why subs seem to be hated everywhere? And what submarine should be my end goal?
As much as everyone thought british submarines sucks, I do think that they're the only proper implementation of submarines in this game right now. You DO get outrun by DD, You DO have the maneuverability enough to be confortable but hard enough to pull off shotgunning. It's not the entire class of submarines are people tend to complain about, it's just the U2501 and Balao that are full of BS
Hello Trenlas, at 9:45 you make a factual mistake. Hydrophone spots NOT only on the map, but also on normally. However it only does so for you and it does so in screenshot manner every so often so you need to estimate the spped etc of the ship.
ive been trying to play DD some and im on the T6 Cachalot and it is about impossible to get hits on anything with it i swear... i can be 8km from them and launch torps maybe even ping and it seems like even being that close they always dodge because im against competent players. and then if im at my max range they are definetly going to dodge even when i get a ping off ... i mean im talking people are doing full circle turns. Destroyers always seem to YOLO me and i only have 10km torps and so i have a very small 1km-2km between my max torp range and any BB ASW that just spams me with their ASW...
2:05 I know this is 5 months later, however the british subs don't even have more dive cap, if you take the german sub dive cap, and add the reserve battery charges to it, you get more dive cap on the german submarines there no reason to play the british submarines, they are inferior in every single way to all the other lines. a guy who has 500 hours in only subs on the WOWS discord forums posted an entire list of what is wrong or too powerful with each specific submarine

And DDs have “shit” based ASW, so true another reason why subs have no place in this game when the class that was suppose to hunt and kill subs are the worse class for it.
The dd was not just designed to kill subs. They served many purposes. The ship that were designed to kill dd are not really in the game. They are basically Water down dd that are slower then a typical fleet dd and are cheaper to make but they designed for escort and Coastal defense ships hence their name of escorts. Now dd can also do the escort roles but dd are primarily with the fleets and escorts are with convoys.
Trasher is still faster below surface then it was above surface and twice as fast as it was below surface. And ypu dont understand why majority hate this class since it have nothing to do with realiity.

You can watch all clips regarding how to be a better wows player, and 90% od the skills will be gained by playing it... I also hate subs, they are boring to play yet they can easily destroyed great games. Looks like WG wants us, ship players out of the game, acc to what they do.

Sub players get instant report from me. I hate that even a dumb a-hole 4x% winrate player can travel through the whole map undetected and show up next to a player sending free and lethal salvo or just doing nothing the whole game. This class also enforces the majority of the non-SUB players to stick to the end of the map close to their own spawn area playing sharp-shooters just to stay alive and avoid SUBshit. Do not misunderstand me TRenlass is a good player, way better than me. What I am trying to say is that it was a huge mistake to introduce this class.

Every single game now the teams just leave you to fend for yourself probably due to hatred of the class got so bad now I almost alt f4 nearly every game, beggining to hate WoW's now more than I hated WoT's. With WG, anything british is usually crap, Subs, CV's you name it al crap, same in WoT's
Tks Trenlass, I finally got it how and why those bbs started to shoot me and drop me without spotting me... I got probably Hydro. I got most the mechanic of subs but did know that everybody could see you when hydrophone on. I gave a try to subs, they are here so why not. Had a 60+ WR with US/German sub from T6 to T8, I grinded the British T6 to 8... my sub WR drop under 50. I have the feeling british don't bring so much impact and game influence overall. I play my sub as a dd, drop torps around, very few ping... stealth is key. Sub are easy to counter most the time and can be drop by almost anyone with asw even through mountains etc.. Way easier to deal with than CV at 32km sending you wave of planes.
How to play subs....don't. Wish everyone would just quit playing subs and CVs so WG would stop pushing them. The sub hunting class is so anemic in that role, if you don't have plane based ASW you may as well just stand up from the keyboard and let your game end. 50% of the time at least even after clearing a ping the torps still track. CVs and subs do not belong in this game.
WG are the Masters of Sunk Cost Fallacy. They have invested in submarine development, so now they will do whatever they have to to get a certain minimum percentage of the playerbase to play that class. Same was done for CVs after the rework, btw.
