Shane I just lost my 8th granddaughter at 5mos old and it was tuff for all of us, Naomi’s passing has enspired me to learn how to play “Tears in Heaven” for her and every year from here on in memory of her on her birth date. Thank you for helping me in learning this great song by Eric Clapton.
Excellent lesson. I applaud you for NOT focusing a lot of attention on the "big money" riff and rather helping us clearly lock down the core of the song. Your lessons are very well done.
Shane you teach in a way like no other.Just something about you that works for me. I get songs down with your help and seem to remember it well. We are simply blessed to have you here on RU-vid helping us along. Thank you, i am inspired to learn and play well from your selfless free lessons...
Thanks Vlowman - so glad you agree....people get so bogged down with that opening riff that they never get to the rest of the song. Glad to have you here with us. Shane
I tried a few other lessons, sites youtube videos, etc. but yours are some of the best in my opinion. You don't make them too slow and boring without going too fast either, and the little tips you throw in here and there. Very clear and your voice helps being so clear as well. Thank you !!
You are a natural Shane. Your teaching...you made me believe I can actually do this. I had no plans to play this song but you've inspired me to play it someday. What a talent you have. Great instruction style. Thank you for sharing
Great lesson as always. Years ago, I struggled to play this song from the transcription just because it was so busy. Nice that you could strip it down to the essence of the song. Also appreciate the recommendation of the "beatbuddy". This has already help my rhythm / timing in a very short period of time. One area of the song that is a struggle is the big money riff. I can play it no problem but the timing doesn't work out for me. Is the E, hammer on, open A a lead in from the previous bar? How do you count the riff?
Thank you Kevin and very sorry for a slow reply. So glad the BeatBuddy has helped you - it's fabulous indeed. The big money riff in this song starts on 4& of the previous bar (that's called a pickup). The first two notes (open e and then the hammer 2nd fret) are in that previous bar and the open A string is right on beat 1 of the next bar. Hope that helps you and have fun with it. Cheers, Shane
Hard to believe this is several years old already......just a quick Q?....on page 2 when you switch keys to C.....you make reference to an Em in the video. Was it missed on the tab sht? Thx....Richard
I wish you lived in Billings Montana, I would pay what ever you charge to teach me these songs that i love man, this song i will learn but it is a lot of writing the cords down so i can of course practice them over and over so i learn them...anyway you are out stand teacher anyway ...Travis
Thank you for sharing Shane, My daughter wants to learn this song after the performance of EC in Hyde Park 2018. nice build up of you to learn the song. And in your dropdox I also saw nice other songs passing. Undoubtedly I will learn some of it myself. after this one , Thanks
Sorry for the confusion Jim - sheets for older videos like this one can be freely downloaded at guitaratwork.ca Just look for the Free Downloads button at the top of the main page - it will take you to a bunch of folders filled with songsheets. If you have any trouble email me directly from that website and I’ll send to you right away. Cheers! Shane
Great lesson Shane... I've been trying to do this on my own for a while .... I was missing the into middle finger and starting using my thumb... works better for me!Best my friend!Woody
Was introduced to your lessons by an Ottawa friend. As an adult relearning guitar after a 10yr break - these have been fantastic, especially as I'm trying to get better at finger picking style this time around (a la Tears in Heaven, Fast Car). Would love to see you go through "The Wind" by Cat Stevens if you take requests ;)
Great, been playing a long long time and this is such a good lesson to run over. Nice choice on the practice element of learning then chords before the BMR.
Hey shane any chance you could do "I guess that's why they call it the blues" by Elton John? Been trying to figure that one out with no success. Thanks
Could you please teach me Metallica Unforgiven finger style please. Your teaching methods are very simple and easy to catch for beginners. I will be very great full🙏.
This is an awesome lesson Shane👍. Your like a heavy-weight champion, cause everyone wants to watch you perform these songs in the big arena. I'm gonna start taking donations to get you a silk robe that says: "Shane 'BIG MONEY RIFF' Simpson". 🥊. If you don't like that idea, maybe we can get you a "Big Money Riff" coffee mug😎
