I just started playing the accordion in a jazz band this year. I’ve played piano/studied music for years, but you can imagine my tumultuous journey in learning all the things about the accordion I inherited by myself, before I started looking for videos like this. These lessons have helped me IMMENSELY! Thank you for making them!

It’s crazy how these things all came naturally to me. The whole video I just kept nodding and saying to myself, yeah, I do that! May be a subliminal link to my accordion lessons way, way back when I was 9 years old! Thank you for these videos and lessons! This channel is very much appreciated! ❤️

Patricia Bartell. Thank you so much. I've always wanted to learn to play the Accordion. I'm feeling this instrument, the full sound of an orchestra is how I describe the Accordion, or a lead guitar, a rhythm guitar. You are inspiring Patricia with your explanations and lessons. Thankyou again.

I love your co-stars! I can see tons of personality in both of them! As for my accordion, I have a very large accordion that I'm just getting used to. I just started playing 2 days ago and still fumbling with it, hence why I'm watching your amazing videos. I too would prefer a smaller sized one but it's all I have(inherited). So I'll be putting the key fundamentals to use. Thank you so much for your efforts.

I struggle with my 120 bass accordion - it is SO heavy. I am 67, have arthritis in my neck and left shoulder and I am in pain when I play. Instead of working up to being able to play it, I have played it less and less, avoiding the pain. YOUR comment on switching to a 96 bass instrument has encouraged me. Perhaps I can work a trade with someone in my hometown.

Hi Susan, Thank you for the comment! We've had a lot of students in the same situation as you. In your case, I would also suggest looking into a 72 bass accordion. The Hohner Bravo 72 Bass is a good instrument and relatively lightweight. Many of our adult students who needed a lighter instrument have been happy with that one. We've also had some students who've experience success with essential oils for their joint pain. If you send us an email at support@accordionlife.com I can send you an issue of our Accordion Life Today magazine that has suggested oils for joint pain. :) Hope you find a lighter accordion that works for you!

Susan maybe you would consider digital!! Much lighter. My 1x Roland only weighs 14 pounds and my 4x full size is still only 19 lbs. less keys on the 1x but there’s a handy button to give you a couple more octaves. Just food 4 thought.......I ordered both of mine from Crown Music in sun city AZ. Perfect and friendly service!! Totally happy. Check out Dale Mathis channel on UTUBE!! Lots of fun demos!!

I have just started playing the accordion, it is by far my favorite instrument. But I would like a good recommendation for what accordion I should get, I really like the eastern Europe Polka styles. And thank you for this lesson, Ciao.
@Accordionlife
@Accordionlife 4 месяца назад
That is not a simple, straightforward question. You'll need something that fits you well and that you like the sound of. A piano accordion is great-just know there are many variations and options as to the sound of the accordion. You'll want, at minimum, a 72 bass instrument to start with. Many professional accordionists use a 96 or 120. Feel free to email us at accordionlifeacademy@gmail.com-if I have more info, I can provide more help and I see the emails faster than the RU-vid comments. :)

Great question! It does take a bit of practice, and sometimes you have to experiment with placement of the back strap a little bit to find what works for you. But we're used to just reaching behind and undoing it.

h Hello I'm interested in learning how to play what type of accordion would you suggest
@Accordionlife
@Accordionlife 2 года назад
It really depends on what style of music you want to learn, but typically we recommend starting with a piano accordion. The Hohner Bravo 72 bass is a great starter instrument that should give you enough keys to last a while and it's lightweight.

The right strap looks to be in a choking position next to her neck is there any way to prevent this from happening

The strap is actually not against the front of her neck-it angled forward and out so it doesn't choke her. :)

How to ware a smaller accordion than 96 bass? For instance 72, this size is to small to rest on your leg? Greeting from the Netherlands
@Accordionlife
@Accordionlife Год назад
Typically it's best to have an accordion that fits your torso length, so if a 72 bass doesn't sit on your leg when the straps are properly adjusted, it may be too small.

Hi - I'm 74 yrs "young" and Desperately want to learn the Accordion. Which is better... the "piano" or the "Button" type? I also play Electric Bass, Lap Steel Guitar, learning the Mandolin.... but, I have always wanted to learn the Accordion, I'm thinking that I wouldn't have to "Stretch" my fingers so much with a "Button" accordion.... yes? No? I would Really Appreciate any help you can give me... Thank You, in advance for any helpful insights you can send my way.
@Accordionlife
@Accordionlife 4 месяца назад
Great question! By 'Button' type, do you mean the chromatic accordion or diatonic accordion? They're very different. We have an article about the different types here: accordionlifeacademy.com/articles/areyoumytype If you're referring to the chromatic accordion-no, you typically don't have to reach as far. The one thing you'll want to consider if pursuing the chromatic accordion is the ease of accessing resources-It's not as common outside of Europe. We do offer private lessons for the chromatic-you can learn more about that here: accordionlifeacademy.com/lessons Piano accordion is more common in the USA especially and there are more resources available-including the free resources and paid courses on our home page. :) Feel free to reach out to accordionlifeacademy@gmail.com if you have further questions. I see the emails much more frequently than RU-vid comments and am happy to help answer any questions!

Sorry for the delay! We just saw your comment. The one with the all black keys and the dove in the bellows is the Hohner Fun Flash. You can customize the accordion with pretty much any color you want. We are a HOHNER dealer, so we get our instruments directly from them. They have a US branch but the accordions are custom made in Europe.

@@Accordionlife No worries, thanks for the info. Id love to learn how to play the accordion but have some back problems and Id like a small accordion. I came across this video and this guy has a tiny 8 bass accordion. Is it real or fake ? can you play that song with that accordion ? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-byjPXr-7jRs.html
@Accordionlife
@Accordionlife 2 года назад
We checked out the video. It's real. They're just using an extremely simplified version of the left hand bass. With back problems, you'll probably want a lighter accordion, but not necessarily a smaller accordion. An 8 bass is very limiting, 48 bass is much better, but still small which is nice in one way, but because it's shorter in length, it will be primarily supported by your shoulders and back. If you get a larger accordion that is long enough for your torso, you'll be able to support it on your leg instead of primarily on your shoulders/back. Often we've found that the HOHNER Bravo 72 Bass is a good option for adults who are looking for something lighter. It has enough bass buttons to keep you from being limited, but it's lightweight. I hope that helps!
