I am re-teaching myself to play the clarinet after not having played for 20 years and am happy to have found your video for a refresher! Also, for a very random comment, your voice reminds me so much of Sir Elton John’s speaking voice and that makes me so happy!!!!
Hope you're doing better now! It's pretty difficult at first, but with patience, you'll get better. I really enjoy playing the clarinet, and I'm looking at beginner videos for a bunch of instruments to try to decide what other instrument I want to learn. Looked at this one for a good rush of nostalgia.
HI all , well i picked one from the local store for hire , played a constant note as soon as i blew for the first time and bingo , not music just a sound ,the guy in the shop said "that is amazing " probably trying to sell the product. Any way I am now the proud owner of a Boosey and Hawks of london clarinet in Bb....... watch this space lol. good luck to everyone and stay safe out there . Jim
This has helped me SO much. I have been a strings player for 4 years and needed a different instrument. I just got the clarinet and then watched this video to learn. Loved this tutorial. Thank you!
you will love this instrument! i played for 3 years and its been 2 since ive played. im trying to get back into it to play again since i’ve forgotten a lot. it has such beautiful melodies. i hope it goes well for you! i highly recommend it :)
I am going into middle school and I’m going to play the clarinet I paracticed making a sound for 2 days and only got 1 second of actual sound this helps a lot thank u
I’m about to join 6th grade band and I’m still confused, what if I still am not able to make sound? I cant make sound, no matter how I blow, just doesn’t work. Other than that I think you did great at teaching the proportions needed.
@@konhii5323 good job! I’m in high school band as a trumpet (watching this video because I found and old clarinet) and I’m sure you’ll make a great section leader in a few years :)
@@konhii5323 pretty much it’s first chair, but you do a lot more stuff, like in marching band you’d help coordinate everyone in your section. It’s basically the sections parent tbh
Hello Simon, You were at the top of the RU-vid so I listened. What an excellent teacher you are. For a pro to go over the basics so clear without making me feel dumb. Excellent job!!!! I an an accordionist, Hammond B3 and piano player and I also taught myself trumpet. My friend's Father use to play in big bands. My friend asked me if I would like his Dad's clarinet. I said YES!!! I LOVE clarinet!!!! I just got it back from being rebuilt and polished. It is a 1945 Penzel Mueller Empire State made in Long Island City, N.Y. I am anxious to get playing and you made it so clear how to do so!!!!! Thank you so much!!!!! ...How do you feel about synthetic reeds? The repairman suggested getting a soft synthetic reed to begin on. Thanks again!!!!!!
I'm a pianist and have been for nearly 7 years and I wanted to try something else on top of that, so I chose the clarinet. Only problem is, I can't get a sound out.
I know this video was made a while ago but Im in band and Im thinking of switching from trumpet to clarinet and I want to know how easy it is or if anyone would reccommend it, because I feel bored with trumpet and I want something new. They have the same notes so I dont have to learn a new note names
@@edwardjenkins5421 Them some cool instruments to learn! I’ve been attempting to learn (and possibly master) many instruments ( or at least I’m aiming to). Good luck with it.
I can't remember where I used to place my reed or how I used to tighten the ligature (I last played 25 years ago in middle school), and I'm having so much trouble blowing easily through the clarinet :(
Your are supposed to place your reed in the reed case and to tighten your ligature you just have to screw on your ligature once it’s on the mouth piece.
I’ve been playing the clarinet for 3 months and I saw this the first day now I watch again to see how bad I was back then(although I won’t say I’m really really good now lol)
If you're fingers are not firmly covering the hole, I've discovered that there will be an issue with the sound, so please make sure you do that. I've been playing piano for 5 years, and I'm self-teaching myself incredibly fast with the Standards of Excellence books how to play, the only issue is I can't seem to get the right sound out of the Clarinet. I think it sounds perfect, but the other Clarinetist in my house is either jealous or I am stupid.
My teacher made all of us play our instruments one by one and we all struggled. He waited until each one of us got it right. And we are completely new to this instrument smh
