How to play The Trellis by Nick Mulvey - guitar TAB tutorial

The Trellis is my favourite Nick Mulvey song. It took me a while to figure out how to play it, but here's the fruits of my labours. The TAB is available to download freely on my website, www.banthamlegend.com

Awesome man! Love Nick Mulvey (3rd fav after Ben and Bon Iver) and this song is one of his most impressive guitar-wise, thanks for your work! I'm ure I will be giving the tutorial a go if I can keep my guitar out of CG variations for more than a few days! p.s. the tiny bit you did in his 'flamenco' style sounded incredible, better than the adapted version I think, but then its probably too difficult to play nicely for the duration of a song especially on an acoustic as you say.

Haha, yes, just after I did the flamenco original style bit I did think, shit, I should have played like that for the cover! Of course, Nick Mulvey will have played in that style for a lot longer than me. Ironically I have a classical guitar with a cutaway, but it doesn't have fretmarkers so not ideal for doing a tutorial. However, I feel it is another playing style and skill I have explored and absorbed. I may call upon it in my own song writing...

I love your work, you make it so easy to learn complex pieces such as this! How long have you been playing guitar for? I'd love to be able to learn songs by ear like you can.

Thanks for your kind words. I first picked up a guitar aged 10, but have made most progress in the last five years. The learning by ear thing just takes persistence. Trust me, I get songs wrong many, many times before I get them right.

Wow. Saw your cover earlier and was waiting eagerly for this tutorial and it is amazing how well you broke this song down for a tutorial. Made an account just to sub to your channel bud! Heard of Drive By Truckers? Their songs, Sounds Better in the Song and Loaded Gun in the Closet, is similar in terms of the finger picking and no one else has really done much covers of it. Wondering if you'd take a stab at either?

I'll tell you when I get started! Haha, no seriously I have bits of picked sequences, chord progressions and lyric fragments, I just need to focus and pull it all together. Technically I'm writing about 15 songs at once and as you have seen I am heading ever closer to 1000 sub's...
