Love this one! I also like My heads in Mississippi and Tube snake boogie... So many great songs Marty. ZZ Top can help pass the miles when rolling down the road. Try not to break the speed limit when Tush or La Grange come on LOL!
This is one of my favorite ZZ songs as well. Simple, yet genius. Loved that video too way back when it came out. Thanks again Marty for the killer tips!
Killer tone and riffage, Marty! Man I always loved this song. I thought it was so cool the first time I ever heard it. Got Eliminator on vinyl when I was probably 12.... going on 13... and it blew me away. The whole record did. Right down to "She's a Bad Girl" at the end. Or was that on the cassette version? Anyway - killer! Love this. The Reverend is just so cool.
lol.. I love the lyric reading intro. This is one of my favorites from Eliminator. 👍🏼 I had some of the lyrics wrong. I thought it was “I even like the chicken if the spice is not too blue.” 🤷♂️😂
Glad someone enjoys my sense of humor!! 😂😂 I always have wondered what the lyric was in Got Me Under Pressure after he's says "she might get out a night stick"...."and hurt me real real bad .............."
Billy Gibbons plays so smooth. ZZ Top such a great band. 😎🎸🚘 👈🏼💤 Great lesson Marty. I don't know about frozen TV Dinners but I still like the pentatonic. 😁
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker LOL 😂 I saw yours in the background there in the video man. My wife is a gourmet chef. She doesn't let me eat those dinners. When I was single, I was all about the Lean Cuisine dinners though. 😁
Hi Marty, I've subscribed to many You Tube channels over the years, but I'm so happy that I found your channel recently. I really enjoy your content and your tutorials. Fantastic! Thank you.
Still remember the video on MTV it had this claymation green monster that came out of the microwave and raked havoc on them he popped right out of the TV Dinner funny stuff 👍🤘
Great job, ZZ Tops the first band that made me start trying to learn and play leads. Hard to find a Billy Gibbons tune that I don't love. I hope you will check out the first album, some off my favorites that never gets covered. Would love to see you do some body else been shaking your tree.
I’ve struggled with getting a good, consistent pinch harmonics sound. I found I get the best results using a thin pick, and if I strum the string at an angle rather than straight down.
Great Lesson! I’ve been hoping for a tutorial on this song, long a personal favorite. Any advice on getting the unique tone on this with a single coil Tele guitar?
Thanks man! My advice it to get a fairly overdriven tone. Eq shaping is key. If you're looking at a clock... I'd say bass around 2 pm... mid about 2pm. Treble about 12 Or 11. Especially digital amps. You need to bring the travel back. Billy uses a lot of mid range. I like to set the gain kinda high and then roll back on my volume knob on the guitar to get the right amount of distortion. The. Crank it back up for my leads. This should get you in the ball park!
rough boys is good too, sleeping bag.... imho Topp had very distinct eras with 2 or 3 albums each, el loco, eliminator, afterburner, were all sorta the same vibe, keyboards, synthesizers, midi era... I remember seeing them twice during this era and they had all the midi gear onstage "boots and the fur" and I could see it time up with the digital timers and play, the green LED units, had like 12 of em onstage towards the back, midi would play the keyboard parts, special effects like car horns, the car starting all that sorta stuff, it was all fairly elaborate and cutting edge for the time, unlike the very first time I saw them when they weren't even into the animal stuff yet, so raw, no real hits yet really, but you could tell they played like you wouldn't believe, tight, there only real hits they had in 74 was it?' when they came to tri cities raceway was 'backdoor love affair' and 'just got paid', and man let me tell you what they rocked the FUGG OUT OF THE DESERT THAT WEEKEND! both those songs even Francine sounded quite a bit different than the albums in that Billy had yet to discover all the bells and whistles at this point at least to any perfection where he was going to use it all night, I think he had a few pedals but mainly he and dusty ran straight thru a few overdriven fender amps then on thru the house, using what looked to me like fender tweed deluxes or bassmans? hard to tell who's amp was who's I couldn't follow the cables, I was too low, stage was high like 6 ft or so but they basically stood in one spot back then and just kicked serious ass, no fancy roundhouses or anything just pure skill, determination, grit, and purpose! all that poured out of those fender valves like molasses, but boy did all 3 both sound phenomenal, you just knew they were going to be a fantastic band in the future, hale they didn't have the long beards then, shortish hair, cowboy hats, western attire . . . I took em for a blues boogie/western type band, I honestly believe they did as well? I never thought one day they'd be playing sunglasses and nationwide . . . they did 2 encores I know of, by that time i had to throw up a few times myself.. beer and rum... ICK! Topp boogied for over 2 hours, what a night ALSO, Billy was FINGER TAPPING in the solo to beer drinkers!!!! EVH was NOT the first to do this! and I'd be willing to bet it all he had seen Topp and that's where he got it from, Billy getting it from Jimi... ASK HIM
1. Less is more 2. Pentatonic positions that work for his phrasing 3. Chord structure 4. Pinch harmonics 5. Tone and approach to rhythm 6. Sticking with root/five chords and using the minor and major third in your leads to change tonalities 7. Wide vibrato to keep pitch on point during bends Etc
I think your dog likes to listen to you play the guitar my cat loves it when I put on rock and roll she loves Van Halen and Bad Company and stuff like that, she'll actually come over and sit when I turn 7it on and it's loud and she don't mind her ears point towards the music. her ears are like one of those motion lights they move to the sound twitch around it's funny. There's a video of it on my RU-vid channel
