That's a really interesting version. I like how you turn it into a main instrument as the original is very simplistic. I play it solo on a bass using a fuzz pedal. I use a Gretsch bass 6 but that's just for the looks.
The original is actually tuned to D# G# C# F# A# C#. Basically half step standard tuning but the high D# is down a full step, basically turning into a C#.
Sounds amazing but like others on here I'd appreciate you clarify the "MOD" aspect of the ostrich tuning. Maybe signal chain, amp, etc. It sounds so damn good
Hi! The tuning is modified Ostrich Db, Ab, Db, Db, Db, Db. Five strings are tuned to Db, the fifth string (A string) is tuned to Ab. Ab is a fifth of Db. I think I used a compressor into a ZT Lunchbox.
Sounds great, but the chorus needs some work. Seems to be played correctly, it's just not very clean. But at least now I know why I could never quite get this right playing it in standard tuning. It would sound okay, all the right chords technically, but it lacked the proper droning sound that ostrich gives it.
The guitar in the video is a Carmine Street Guitars KeleTele, built my friend Rick Kelly. The guitar is constructed from VoodooPine! VoodooPine is over 200 years old!
The original _was_ played on Standard Tuning, always has been. The only track that featured Ostrich was "All Tomorrow's Parties" (though Ostrich was used in the final seconds of "Furs").
@@barneyrubble8255 Video footage and tablature shows Lou playing "Furs" in standard. (Most of the time a whole step down, and at least once, I think 2013, in Standard 440 tuned, but _always_ in standard tuning, never Ostrich.)
@@galetinm I like the idea of variations, as opposed to right, wrong, or favorites. Music provides an endless array of possibilities! Good to have options!
this is honestly very lazy for a how-to. You're not teaching anything, you're just playing the song. why should people watch you instead of a live performance. even including tabs or chord descriptions would be *something*, and it wouldn't be hard either. also you say "mod ostrich tuning" - does that mean it *isn't* ostrich tuning? wtf? I'm not actually asking, it's just that if you're going to be essentially playing a cover, don't do such a vague title. It makes people expect an explanation, so they're being set up for disappointment. there's nothing wrong with wanting to upload a cover, just don't masquerade as an educator.
I, for example, get really bored watching lessons and I prefer to learn from covers that keep the focus on the guitar So for me this was a perfect lesson
Why don't you put up the tabs and tuning in the comments instead of criticizing someone who took the time to put up a perfectly played cover. And yes it does show people how to play the song by setting the camera up so we can see what he is playing
Richard Trumpet: Why don't you learn from the video like I did and figure it out for yourself instead of trumpeting negativity to another musician? He worked with Lou Reed you dimwit. Silence is golden.
