Short of actually getting someone to sit with you and play you through the game, this has to be, hands down, the easiest tutorial to understand - the "air steward flight safety" tone of speech made the whole thing really clear and simple, when other tutorials can be too soft or too full of jargon which newbies wouldn't understand. For the first time in a week I'm starting to feel as if I may just understand this game! Now to find someone to polish off the understanding and get some practice!

@RegentPie
@RegentPie 8 лет назад
How good is the balance of this game would you say? I think I read that decks are limited based on series, so how does that balance out from one deck to another?
@WeissSchwarzUK
@WeissSchwarzUK 8 лет назад
+RegentPie Sets these days get a few similar abilities and then some unique ones specifically for them. This helps towards making the game well balanced, as everyone has a handful of common effects. Each set's unique feel keeps deck building fresh and interesting too. Much like other card games, the strength of an effect influences the power of a card, so a series doesn't spin out of control. The rare time that does happen, and it happens to everyone, it is rectified fairly quickly. Also, these effects or cards never make it to the English game, an example of this is Kantai missing cards or Nisekoi having different effects. This gives the English version an added layer of of protection. On top of the power balance, the mechanics of the game help decks from different series interact well with one another. Finally, once you get into the more advanced play you realise that a lot of the parts you believed to be random can, to an extent, be controlled. Sure, some games you will just run through a lot of climaxes early on, but through careful play and maximising your stock you can dig yourself out sticky situations. Sorry for the wall of text, I tend to get a bit carried away when talking about this game '^^
@RegentPie
@RegentPie 8 лет назад
Haha, don't worry, I like reading informative posts so I appreciate what you've written. I plan on buying a rather expensive trial deck soon, so knowing how the game is set up before then helps a lot. I used to play YGO and I feel it's lost a lot of its balance since I started. Maybe I just haven't changed with the time? Anyways, I look forward to trying this game out and playing with people. Shame there isn't a console game though, at least not from what I've seen. I, and probably others, learn tcgs easier through those. Thank you again for your help.
@WeissSchwarzUK
@WeissSchwarzUK 8 лет назад
+RegentPie No problem, glad you found it useful. One last note, there was a PSP game released a few years ago but only in Japan. It came in a Weiss and Schwarz variant. They both contained all the same cards, but the version depended on which side it was easier to collect cards for. If you can get through the Japanese it is good for getting used to the rules. It is just a shame that the AI isn't the best '^^

Just a fun fact, you can tell color requirement also by the color ring around the level number. Level 0 are grey ring, which means no color requirement. Events and climax have a color requirement.

just got into this game and thanks to this video i just learned me and my friends have been using the Memory wrong. We thought every time you level up all the clocked cards go to memory. As this video shows they don't. Only cards that specifically state "go to memory" go there all others go to waiting room. Well that changes things.

Very nice tutorial! I tried the game out and realized how much I despise the climax cards cancelling damage. It really killed it for me. My group of friends and I made a house rule that makes climax cards cut the damage received in half, rounded down. At least the attacking player can get at least a small sense of accomplishment at that point.
@WhtRoseDuelist
@WhtRoseDuelist 9 лет назад
Hayse1q1 +2 soul climaxes sound OP with those house rules lol The climax-cancel mechanic just gives players a much higher incentive to play more strategically imo. You will want to control the location of each of your cards throughout the game. For example, you may choose to use brainstorm abilities to pay out triggered climaxes and mill out your deck to force out an early refresh that will have a higher CX-to-nonCX ratio, allowing you to have an increased probability of cancelling damage. Also, this is by no means unfair seeing that both players are capable of doing this. Those who do not "compress" their deck tend to lose much more often than those who do.
@Hayse1q1
@Hayse1q1 9 лет назад
WhtRoseDuelist Well Climax cards are OP as they are, completely negating damage was too much as it was very frustrating and not fun for me and my friends when 7 damage that was supposed to be dealth get brought to 2 damage, over and over and over. And the other player gets a lucky streak and never has his opponent ever draw a climax for his/her damage stemp. It's especially disheartening when the player plays the climax card for a big play and it's all for nothing due to repetetive climax draws. It's our house rule, and it's how we play. This way the player who would play a climax card that gives extra souls can still get SOME reward from the big play, but still negates the single soul damage completely.

Recommended for first time players. You'll get a good grasp of BASIC rules of the game by listening to this. I would add two things to this tutorial: 1) A Climax follows color restriction meaning that you need a card of the same color either in your clock and/or in your level zone to play it during your climax phase. 2) Event backup can ALSO be played during your main turn unlike the character card backup shown here but the event follows color restriction while the character backup doesn't.

We did mention the climax colour restriction yo, though it was only in passing when talking about general colour at 12:52 ~ And in terms of event and character counters and the colour restriction differences there, it just didn't seem necessary in a video aimed at people who'd never played the game before.

I am glad you found the video useful, welcome to Weiss Schwarz ^^ When I lived in the UK I used to get all my cards from either AmiAmi, HobbySearch, Yuyutei or a local game shop. Importing isn't too bad, so I suggest you give those places a look. There are also some popular American based websites like HammerGirl that you may find useful, but sadly I am not too knowledgeable on those '^^ If you have any other questions just let me know.

While I admit the directions seem a little intimidating to me at this initial phase of trying to research the game, I think I'm actually comprehending it pretty well, and it looks really fun. I'm surprised by how "fast" it sounds like rounds go, especially since there's so many phases that require pulling cards from your deck. I've always enjoyed playing Magic but never really bothered to get deep into it, but I admit the draw of being able to dork out to maximum levels and make decks of favorite characters intrigues me greatly.
