Hey, thank you very much for your videos! You are a great person with fantastic teaching skills and you have such a friendly down-to-earth attitude! You have made me realize that it's possible to play some hard guitar pieces and I'm grateful. +Shutup & Play - Guitar Tutorials Did you replace your B string with a G? I read that was a trick that Clapton used to do some of those extreme note bends and vibrato. You're Vibrato's great, by the way and your timing is perfect. It's funny to hear that some people have struggled perfecting their vibrato - it's about the only thing that came naturally to my playing. It's the intricacies and speed that I've always struggled with.

Dude you don't need to practice your vibrato. It is perfect. I need to practice my vibrato. My 'bended vibratos' sound like a cat stuck on barbed wire :( Any tips?
@ShutupAndPlayGuitarTutorials
@ShutupAndPlayGuitarTutorials 9 лет назад
tubefogg3r Thanks bud, I practice my vibrato more than anything else. For bent string vibrato it's handy to use a tuner to make sure your bend is on pitch, and then slowly release and bend it back up, like on quarter notes, then 8th notes. Also try triplets. It's one of the hardest skills to get for me and I think for a lot of other people too. I heard someone say that Eric Clapton was asked if he still practices and he said he works on his bends and vibrato. So there you go. cheers

@polymath245

one trick to better vibrato is getting the mass/weight of your arm/hand in motion, and letting that motion manifest itself as vibrato. if you only try to wiggle your finger you won't have enough energy to get the result you want. let all of that energy that is in your moving arm be concentrated/pivoted on a single fingertip. practice vibrato with each finger individually, and then practice vibrato on 2 stings, then 3 etc. it takes a lot of strength to bend/vibrato a whole chord. also, try to keep the string bent while doing the vibrato, put energy into bending the string (more), then let the energy come back to you as you let the string un-bend (some). don't think about how "fast" you want your vibrato to be, but rather think about what you want it to sound like. always challenge yourself to sound better. let the notes breathe and develop. let your emotions come thru the notes. you don't even necessarily have to have a specific emotion in mind, if you just think the word "emotion" whilst playing. allow your face to express a different emotion with each note. make all sorts of "faces" with your face, micro-expressions. move your eyebrows into a different expression with each note. close your eyes. tap your feet. feel it in your bones.

It appears you have done what was thought to be impossible !! I saw an interview with Eric. And he said when George invited him into the studio. Eric said " No one plays on Beatles songs" But George insisted. Anyway. Eric did the lead, And when it was done He said it doesn't sound Beatles enough. So during the mix. They had the engineer wobble with pull downs and others with a speed lever on the 8 track tape. Which you have done on the guitar. Correct me if I'm wrong. But. Fantastic job. !!!!

Sorry if its a dumb question, but is there a difference in pushing the string up vs pulling it down? its still the same note 'distortion' isnt it? I can only think of maybe by pushing the string up, you will also effect some bass notes in as well, & by pulling down, you effect some chromatic notes in. Is that it??
@MysteryFields
@MysteryFields 6 лет назад
It really don't have a single difference. The only thing is that pushing the string UP is more "normal" and easier. But is your choice man

I really never understood the nuance of the vibrato and how important it is to the feel of the tune. As you said (PUN), Most guys push instead of pull. You got the golden touch. I had a similar LP, it was so heavy (13.9lbs) I assume you're using Super Slinky's or similar.
