Great info again champ, on a side note, after I scrub my board down, I rub it with sand. It gets rid of the shine and the wax seems to stick a bit better.
I used to rub it with sand but I now notice that I don’t need to as the sponge is doing most of the work anyway. I would say sand is the option when you don’t have a course sponge.
Really good channel my friend, I'm a subscriber and give much respect. **Let's open this up for discussion** As a 40+ year bodyboarder, 'GEEZER!' I have plugged a few in my time. Always a nerve racking moment when stabbing a brand new board. As a tradesman who works with tools, I initially reasoned that a proper sized, sharp as shit, drill bit would be the best, and cleanest, way to both 'cauterize,' and introduce the plug. However, the slightest too many RPM's of the drill bit, and the interior-middle of the core is absorbing all that friction and could be widening more diameter than needed, creating long term play when the leash is under serious torque. Similar with the HEATED screwdriver. Some may use a bigger than needed probe, thereby rendering the board an injured bird. work with me here, I think the good old fashioned cold screwdriver and cranking her down is a safer bet. ??
Hey Joel. For me there is nothing better than a hotter and smaller screwdriver. Again the core is waterproof for 90% of the boards these days so a cold screwdriver could work too. I was using cold screwdrivers for most of my career until a few years ago. I choose to use a smaller screwdriver and make a smaller hole and then push the plug through when it’s time to boog. I agree cold or hot, it’s a tough task to perform.
My local surf shop recently told the manufacturer of their own brand to stop sending them wrapped in plastic. They had to sign some sort of waiver that they'd accept responsibility for any damage.
Very good video again Iain really helpful my local bodyboard shop put my plug in last time think i would have them do again thanks again looking forward to the next video.
@@donaghgavin8132 use the logo for reference. Otherwise it is about 15-18cm from the nose and then 15cm from the rail. Just make sure it goes in straight...
I would say whatever you’re comfortable with. I do some different stances like dropknee and I put it opposite my front foot so not to get it tangled up…
Interesting. But using a hot screwdriver avoids any delamination due to it not pushing out the slick but actually burning straight through it. Very interesting about the manta boards though. Thanks 🙏🏼
@@iaincampbell_ yes it is better built nowaday but previously with Manta beaded polypropylène and hdpe slick it was hard for manufacturer to assemble pp and pe. Surlyn is thin less problems and better gliss. Greetings from Mauritius
Is it normal for the deck to look a bit hazy and not as shiny after washing it and letting it dry? I have some old boards that I never did this on and they still have the shine to them and slippery when deck is wet.
Depends on the materials and what they are made of. Some of the decking material is closed cell and will stay shiny. They did this on older boards. It does also stay a bit slippery. Newer board are mostly open cell decks and will become a bit more grippy when they get older. Once you wash it off you will feel the difference on a newer board.
There is a change in thickness from the top of the nose until that point around 7 inches down. If you were to plug it any higher the plug would sit skew... Hope that makes sense..
Hi Iain I end up hitting the stringer while plugging a new board (kooked it..), but managed to still put the plug on (i just hit the bottom of the Torsion stringer) Can that affects the board performance / waterproof problem? (It's a found PP) Thanks
Depends on the PP that they are using. Most of them are pretty good and waterproof but some aren’t. Maybe try get some silicone into the hole to plug it up, or you can use some wax to plug it. Both work.
@@iaincampbell_ oh here is the link. Cheers. Disregard my other responses to your other replies about Aussie Imports. Keep that content coming. Loving it. I think your next video should be about sizing up a bird based on your height and weight and desires :) I had a few other ideas and will comment when I remember.
Hey Ian ! I plugged my board realy close to where i land my maneuvers about 15 cm next to where my elbow stands. What should i do ? Im thinking doing another one, this time 15 cm up and living the plug on the old one. Or should i feel the hole with something?
I would just leave it where it is. It’s really hard to get something to plug the board up. Unless you buy another plug and leave your current plug in the board and put another hole through. That sucks.
