How to Plumb a Remote Switch for your 4WD Air Bags

In this video I detail how I plumbed a remote switch to operate the air bags in my Toyota Landcruiser 200 Series four wheel drive. Prior to this I was inflating and deflating my air bags using a schrader valve located in the rear bumper. This involved pulling out my airline and plugging it into the high pressure compressor fitting, connecting the inflation device, and then inflating the air bags themselves. This laborious process is now completely eliminated as I can remotely inflate and deflate the air bags using the newly installed Air on Board (AOB) remote pneumatic switch. It is a much simpler and less time-consuming process now, and the installation is dead easy. Follow along and see what you think.
If you enjoy this video check out my 200 Series Landcruiser Build Review Series, starting with episode 1 here.

Nice one Terry, Now you can level the car side by side adjustment for a perfect nights sleep in the roof top tent.

Funny you should mention that. I went camping last weekend and did exactly that, great minds think alike! It worked and absolute treat. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and your kind words.😎👍

I absobloodyloooooootly agree with the Shed quote! I've always loved making/fixing stuff 😁😁 I'm about to make an airbag kit for my old 4wd, all fab work as nothing is available & had been toying with the idea of a remote system to adjust it, but I think that's a luxury I don't really need or afford, it would be cool to be able to stand back & adjust the ride height while looking at it especially if I ever get a roof top tent as mentioned below. Another great little video Terry 👍

Awesome vid mate and looks quite easy to hook up! I'm thinking of doing this for the Y62. I've got the airbags installed but like you, I have to manually inflate it which is a pain in the behind! 😆😆

Not wrong mate, this is a lot easier and not as complicated as the ARB Linx system which I’m not a fan of. Thanks for watching👍😎

Hi Terry Another great video I notice the dash mounted pod Could you let me know where you brought it from? Cheers Ray
@JafffaAdventures
@JafffaAdventures 2 года назад
It’s one of those three gauge circular pods you can get off fleabay. I filled the face in with fibreglass, then cut two rectangular holes for my EGT gauges, then bonded the entire pod to the top of the square panel in the 200’s dash. I then filled the edges with bondo, soothed everything out and shot it with a coat of paint to match the dash. Cheers👍😎

I just use a battery power compressor. In my case a oak& iron pump compressor. Takes about 20 seconds to pump from 5lbs to 35lbs. I have 2 independent valves so I can adjust each side. The truck is not distributed evenly on weight. Example driver & and gas tack on one side or if your bed is uneven. how long do these on bord pumps last. Can't justify the cost when I can get a portable pump for $89 then I just put it back in the glove box. But to each there own. PS: All that for airbags. I would try to run a hose with a quick disconnect so i can use the on board pump to add air in your tires or floats. Etc.

Does the air just dump out of the switch when lowering air pressures?

The back of each switch has a small port that vents to atmosphere. Cheers

Still trying to figure out how the gauge inflate switch actually turns on the pump. Totally baffled. Others are using manifolds or relays which eventually fail. I have a Firestone remote controlled system that sucks so unbelievably bad. It uses an ECU and a relay that is not reliable. 2/3 of time if won't work.

My air 12v air compressor is permanently mounted in the vehicle. Mounted on the air compressor is a very small air reservoir, and a pressure transducer. When the air pressure in this small reservoir is at 100psi, the pump turns off. If it drops below 80 psi, the pump turns on. Until it reaches 100psi, upon which it turns off again. So if I use this airbag switch, it draws air out of the system, the air pressure falls below 80psi and the pump kicks in. I’ve had the pump in the vehicle for 6 or 7 years now and use it every time I turn the car on, literally hundreds, maybe thousands of times. Never missed a beat yet and still going strong. Pressure transducers are pretty reliable. The compressor is an ARB unit. Good luck with your solution mate. Cheers👍😎
