As far as I can tell - poaching (and creating more interception opportunities) comes down to becoming familiar with 3 things:
1. Where the throwing lane is, and how close you can stand to it without actually discouraging the handler from making the throw.
2. Watching the HANDLER instead of the receiver.
3. Springing into action the MOMENT the handler starts to make the throw you want them to make (but not before they do, you don't want to spring the trap before they're in it!)
This is a risk-reward style of defending for sure. If you're anything like me you'll get burned for leaving that player open as often (or probably more often) than you successfully create the turnover. BUT when it does work, it's glorious :) And hey - this is rec league right? Why not have some fun?
