Unrelated comments to the pontoon video but I’m watching from Alberta, Canada. Just bought a boat and was looking for detailing tips. Just want to say dude. You’re charismatic, know your shit, integrity and humble. You will succeed in whatever you do. Love watching your videos man. It’s just not your knowledge but your insight that separates you from everyone else. You are the franchise.

If it means anything man, you hit the nail on the head on that video about not focusing on the money and money comes when you focus on the client and your craft. I work in a consulting company where we compete for multi million dollar projects…..how do they choose when everyone is super competitive in price etc? We are humans it really comes down to can they trust you to deliver. They will even pay more for that. You have that in spades bro. You are no different from our top guys that win those massive contracts. Can’t wait to see where you land 5 years from now. Only way is up for you!

I feel like it should be noted that you made it look EXTREMELY easy. That nice finish will only come with time and experience and after a few sketchy screwups. But the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment of seeing your entire body covered in soot but precious metal just reflecting like a diamond. Good shit man.

My worst was when I decided to load my pad with the rouge block laying on the ground. It caught the edge and threw the block into my knuckles. It happened so fast I thought I cut my finger(s) off. I was a 19 year old idiot at the time, so that is the excuse I’m going with. After I pulled my hand out of my pocket and realized I still had all my fingers, I was quite pleased and far more careful.

I have polished many motorcycles with 0000 steel wool and a metal polisher with great results , This is an astronomical job and the work you have done is impressive. I inherited a pontoon boat and your suggestion are good but I do not want to spend time polishing to a glass finish knowing in just a few days in the water it will go back to a dull finish . The main thing for me is to limit the growth under the floats with a coating during the summer months in the water .

Needless to say I had no idea about the shark hide and was basically having to burn through it to get to the metal, so thank life lessened learned, don’t do something thinking you know who’s to do it with research first lol. Do I remove all the trim with the buffing wheel or should I do that ahead of time ??
@Azzface-we3pe
@Azzface-we3pe 2 года назад
Few other Tips and Tricks Always Polish bottom to top. you dont need to rake the buff as much as youd think. Lay on the Compound, Go up into your area with compound then start from the bottom again. to add more clarity to your piece ALWAYS SAND. stop at 600 to 800 like he said. To remove any leftover compound aka black lines, use Mineral Spirits. Also Polishing aluminum is your protectant. DO NOT ceramic coat it. it is guaranteed to dull and fade in no time. just wash it well and it will stay polished for a very long time.

@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing День назад
Sometimes corrosion can be cleaned up with a wire brush, but it depends on what part of the metal it’s on. If it’s the aluminum rails, I’m thinking of, once you remove the corrosion it’s very hard to refinish them to look good again. After you’re done, cleaning the corrosion off, you will just need to hand buff with metal polish to try to get back with any sort of shine.

I feel as if a cylindrical pneumatic buffer may have been quicker, not sure if your familiar with it? also there is a product called green ox that is tacky but as it heats up gets real smooth and creamy so it polishes out heavy oxidation and can possibly save you a step between your cut polish and finish. I polish Bright work on corporate aircraft, and have also done some pretty heavy cutting on the NASA guppy at Ellington field Houston. I like the tip of using paint remover, we seal our metal with a molecular adhesive and can be a pain in the butt to polish out when its time to remove oxidation again. Thanks for the insight.

That’s actually a good question, I don’t quite know the answer myself. It seems like saltwater would eat it away too fast

I use to leave the drive wheels on the truck and work them over. Not any more after hitting the hub and yanked buffer out of my hands then hit me in the face. I dont lock trigger down just for that reason, but some how it was. It didnt stop until wrapping cord around itself unplugging from strip. All my cutters are 6,000 Rpms and polishers are 3500 lower.

Yes typically. But not all! Only way to tell that I know of is by applying the aircraft stopper on a small spot to see

Try some light coumpound like Starke Elevate, then finish off with Starke metal polish. That should look 🔥 on stainless

It is dangerous for sure. The first time I tried to rake a buff, I shot the rake across the floor and smacked my ankle with the back of the polisher. Great video. I have a 27' triple pontoon next week to polish for a local marina. And yes, hire a professional detailer! It's a dirty job and it sucks which is why the price is high. LOL

I've been working on my pontoon I sanded with 320 then 600. I used the same kit you used from zephyr but mine came with a white one besides the orange and purple. Should I use it? And it seems like the orange one the cutting one seemed to leave it more clear that the purple or even white those just make it more cloudy. Any tips?

Sure! Use it. Just see what works and do what you think looks the best

So polishing boats is new to me but polishing aluminum and stainless is something my dad taught me and when you use those buffing wheels start from the bottom so it carry’s your compound to where your headed keeps you from chasing it down if that makes any sense. I might be wrong though
