I would think you would use a seperate cleaning brush to remove the dirt particles. Because tiny particles could still be in the brush, and scratch the leather your trying to polish. Just a thought
A very good point, if your interested in near perfection, as am I..................thanks..................rich.................acoG If I might add, I am a chauffeur,And because I spend extra time in preparation while dressing, one of my rewards is that among 40 or so drivers in the company, I retain the handle "best dressed"
To get it much shinier, you need to use some water when you buff and apply extra layers of wax polish to the toes and heels. You won't get a very brilliant shine just doing one layer of wax all across the shoe.
Thanks for the refresher course. I used to do this in JROTC over thirty years ago. I got a full time position at work and now I have to shine my shoes and starch iron all of my visible clothing. I enjoyed those videos too. Thanks again.
I can't live without a bright mirror gloss reflection on my work boots! If it looks shiny...not ok, blinding and stopping people to say are those brand new shoes is always a great sign on ten year old boots😊
DO NOT use shoe polish on the bottoms of your shoes!!! It is wax, and wax is VERY slippery! So, unless you want to slip and land on your head...I suggest that you use a good quality leather conditioner, it will seal up the bottom of your leather soles and keep them waterproof and in great condition WITHOUT making them slippery and unsafe!
I spit shine boots and shoes to a high military polish - like a mirror, and I've never been that messy. And the stockings are only good for a touch up. Eventually they will strip the layers of polish off and ruin the deep deep gloss and leave a dull shine.
I apply polish, expose the shoes in the sun, then buff them and then rub them in circles using dry cloth. it's more than enough. I don't use water lest the leather gets damaged.
1) Do not wax the soles, use consitioner instead. Less slippery and better at keeping soles in good shape. 2) Do not put wax polish to your hair. 3) Do not ever cris-cross lace formal shoes in formal events, use bar lacing method instead. For casual shoes lace how ever you wish to.
@@usernamemykel The first is just from experience, the 2nd one is just common sense, and the 3rd one is just proper mannerisms. What kind of credentials do you want???
Good video. But, if you want them spit shinin' like a diamond, you use a cotton ball to apply & buff the wax, all while keeping the cotton ball wet, with warm tap water. I do the cotton ball step after the stockings, and before the laces. Also, I don't have a shoe tree, so I stuff my shoes with socks. :D
This is a well done video...but I have watched a number of shoe shine videos, and the one step you left out is...after first cleaning off the dust etc with a brush or damp cloth, you need to apply a cream conditioner to the leather...it is a great help to preserve the life of the shoe...then proceed with the steps you outline...
Well the cream probably have some efect as well but normaly if a shoe is wery dirty and outdried. . 1) chemical petrol I think 2) cleaning shampo 3) conditioner 4) colour cream 5) polish/vax Then you have to tale care off the soule as well. Use shoe blocks.
very interesting, use of paper towels and hosiery. love the reflection of your wrist watch as the final test. had to chuckle when you run your dirty latex glove through your hair though! surprised though that you omitted dye and leather cream favored by professional shoe shiners, at least here in NYC
thanks for the shoe shine lesson , it was very educational . but in the buffing process , don't you think you need to move the 1st shoe you already buffed out of the way . you were buffing the 2nd shoe right over top of the 1st one , all the excess wax from the 2nd shoe is falling right on the 1st one . i know it's just a video , but that's an important step . now you have to re-clean the 1st one
i can tell a lot about aperson by looking at their shoes. i cannot stand unshined shoes. even more i can look at golf shoes and tell you about the person and what kind of golf they play!!!
After the first buff with a horse hair brush, I use a nylon stocking filled with old socks, 8 inches long, for the second buff. The other nylon is used as a buffing cloth particularly across the toes. Respectfully
Now, this is for the method but I am more preoccupied about the type/brand of polish. The basic ones in supermarkets and even in some show repair shops have a weird texture and/or leave a unpolished finish (yes, even after polishing with elbow grease).
Do NOT polish leather soles. They make conditioners, dyes/dressings, and oils specifically designed for the care of leather soles. Polish will cause all manner of issues if used on the soles. Ps- up your game and use some Lincoln stain wax or some saphir
... I went a different route in making money, but my father implemented a casual dress atmosphere to get rid of this stuff when he was evp or ceo of his division. If people judge you on your shoes and not past performance I would recommend switching to your running shoes and getting out of dodge. But... if you lack skill and prior performance to reference.... I guess you must listen up and give the shoe shiner at your local airport more credit.
Takes a lot of work, elbow grease, and (depending on the state of the shoes) many many applications, but yes. Eventually your shoes will look like this
Kiwi, Parade Shine and a bit of effort. Don't use nylon stockings use a yellow duster and store them in the stockings to keep the dust off, or join the armed forces and learn with the aid of a sergeant yelling at you.
Never ever put wax on the bottom of your shoes to create a slick surface! I have been shinning shoes for over 35 years, JROTC, ROTC, and in the military and NEVER have I ever put wax on the bottom of my shoes - EVER! The way to prevent cracking is the use of cedar shoe trees which absorbs salt, moisture from sweet and water, and helps maintain the structural integrity of yours shoes.
What?!? I thought my boyfriend was cheating on me when I found stockings in his closet and told me it was to shine shoes. This is how I got to this video 😅
Así que chiste , limpia unos que estén bien sucios y pulelos, así si vas a poder demostrar que eres chingon y que así pules y abrillantas de verdad los zapatos
We used to blackball new hockey team members. Kiwi black polish and schmear all over the guy’s balls, then used a lighter to heat it up, but we were careful not to burn his nads, as we used his screams to gauge when to hot. Good fun.
