Great way to make instructional videos engaging a mildly entertaining. You're obviously someone who loves what they do, and it not only "shows", but transfers through your end product.. Kudos. PS. I've never even heard of a 'Glassy Electrode' before searching for it on the net. I'm a curious bastard who is developing a device and came across the instrument on a vendors catalog for other testing equipment I needed. My search lead me here, and due to your production style I stayed with you to the end. Thought you might like to know. Best Regards!

Thanks for the support! Yes I certainly enjoy making entertaining and educational videos when it comes to electrochemistry. Tutorials do not have to be boring. I think there a lot of tutorial videos in the field of electrochemistry and they don't have to be. Reach out to us at pineresearch.com/ if you have any technical questions.

Thanks for video. Could you please also teach us how to polish and clean the Pt ring electrode in RRDE because the Pt ring seems to be unstable during 2e ORR in acid.

The best way to polish a platinum ring for RRDE, is to use the change-disk RRDE electrode. Remove the disk insert (glassy carbon) and replace it with a PTFE blank. This way the platinum ring is the only exposed electrode. Then you would repeat the same process as in this video. But you shouldn't need to do aggressive cleaning. Only routine. I hope this was helpful.

Hi, it would be great if you make an video on cleaning of edge plane Pyrolytic graphite electrode. Specifically I am looking for the proper grit size of the sand paper. Also a standard cyclic voltametric response of a clean EPG electrode will be very helpful for me.

That's a great suggestion. Although I honestly don't know enough about polishing edge plane or basal plane electrode. Usually we recommend using the same polishing procedure but use very light pressure and only the 0.05 micro alumina slurries.

At how many times of cleaning routing repetation, we ll observe the first erosion? When the electrode has trully started be erosed? That would changes radically the experimental results

Sorry for the late response. This comment got caught in our "held for review folder." If you are doing routine polishing, my guess is that it would take years, maybe even a decade before you observe erosion. However, if you are doing more aggressive and complete repolishing, it will erode the electrode much more quickly. If you polish that aggressively very consistently, you'll probably run into other electrode problems sooner.

Hi, very nice video to teach someone how to polish disk electrodes. Can we apply the aggressive cleaning and the complete re-polishing process to glass carbon electrodes?

Yes, you can!

When this procedure is not recommended ??
@Pineresearch
@Pineresearch 2 года назад
Typically, a complete repolish is not necessary and usually take a lot of time. But this procedure is fairly standard and used in conjunction with other surface cleaning techniques, depending on the application.

Thanks for video. Could we use usual cloths as polishing pads?
@Pineresearch
@Pineresearch 4 года назад
I would recommend the micro cloths, as some cloths can cause scratches to the surface

How many times we can use polishing pads or for how many days? Any validity?
@Pineresearch
@Pineresearch Год назад
Over time the polishing pad will get worn out and be less effective at polishing. But the main issue is contamination of the polishing pad. We usually encourage people to polish in small areas of the polishing pad, and once all of the area has been used, then you can us another polishing pad. It's less about the time and more about the area used. I hope this was helpful.
