Hi Guys! Bonus video this week is how to polish your vintage Coach hardware. Watch this video to find tips on how I rehab my brass hardware.
Things you need are:
pair of gloves
rags
cotton swabs / Q-tips
Brasso
Cape Cod Polishing Cloths
small metal spoon
small knife / slim, blunt tool of your choice
green kitchen scouring pad / Scotch Brite pads / 0000 steel wool
pliers (optional)
CPR leather cleaner & conditioner (optional)
sponge for the CPR (optional)

Great tips! As a klutz, I know I’d sever a finger trying to pop up those prongs 😸 but I do use Brasso very carefully. I’m sure you can do a much more thorough job once removed. I also use the jewelry cloths that are infused with stuff, but they’re dry. Those really help me on tiny parts like LV rivets, and don’t hurt the leather.

Definitely don't use the swiss army knife then ;P I'm still searching the house for something similar. Maybe a mail opener? Does anyone still use those? I think you could rehydrate your jewelry cloth. At the back of the Cape Cod packet, it says to add a few drops of mineral spirits or vegetable oil to revive the cloths.

The coating really sucks. I mean I know it was there to protect but it's so hard to remove :(

Might I suggest an old school letter opener as another option aside from the utility knife. The old school letter openers are flat, smooth, and their ends are usually somewhat dulled.

I didn't remove the hardware from the bag. I just put a tape around the leather when I clean the hardware using brasso. But the brasso still leaked through the tapes and it ruined the leather. The color and texture of the leather isn't the same anymore. Color becomes lighter/washed off and the leather isn't soft and smooth anymore😭 I don't know what to do. I tried washing it with leather soap cleaner and condition it as well. Doesn't work. Please help😭😭

I didn't remove the hardware from the bag while using the brasso, now my bag leather that got brasso on it was ruined. The color ain't the same again plus the texture.😭 Please help. What to do with it?

You could try dunking your bag in a sink if hot water and a tiny bit of dish soap. But you gotta have a good leather conditioner to condition the bag immediately right after it comes out of the bath.
