Bless you for sharing your wisdom with us!!! Thank you for slowing it down, Zooming in and explaining everything to us!!! Your are an great educator and instructor to help us and the next generation to learn from you. It's great fun to be in your Lab with you Tinmanizing your Power Saws!!!
Tinman, I've watched The Ironhorse go thru this process and now I get the privilege of watching and learning how you do this. For me and probably a lot of others we're getting a well rounded education. I watch east and west coast guys fell trees because they all have something I fell I need to learn. We are better because you share yourself with us, and we also get to learn about chainsaws too. I hope all the new subs find a home here like I have where they can learn things too. Be safe as this too shall pass, one day at a time.
Thank you so much for doing this series for us Tinman. You are our hero!!! Bless you for educating us in the Tinman's University Of Porting. I want to graduate with my Tinmanized diploma!!!
Excellent video brother, can't wait to see the rest. Thanks for taking the time to do this series. I've been fixing saws for a long time, it's about time I learn how to do some porting work.
I just bought one of these saws and I want to do all the mods so this journey of the 670 has me excited and confident! Can’t wait. I cheated and jumped ahead to see the finished product and it was impressive!👍
I've seen a lot of others video about porting saw, but never listen so much truth! thank you very much for your lessons, and not only about porting chainsaw.
Today at a small thrift store i got a 1971 Homelite Super XL automatic AO old Blue',For 30bucks in super good shape, got new carb kit and air filter on her she runs great.
Hey Tinman! This is awesome man, can’t wait for the next video every time I watch something of yours i learn just a little bit more! It’s great Take care bud!! And thank you
Thank you for your videos and all your knowledge I really like the way you do your videos and slow down and show everything they're very helpful thank you Tin Man
I'm glad I watched your video I have work on alot of small engines but I have never ported any saws looks like fun looks like you go about it the right way. Thank you
Love your channel. I'm a disabled machinist/diesel mechanic, selling firewood to help pay the bills, and learning to heat the saws up a little, to get by with a lighter saw, with good power still. Would love to see an "ultimate old man saw build" I just wanted to point out, the degree of rotation, to piston travel isn't linear. It will move more per degree, that at the ends of the travel. Probably doesn't matter for what your doing, but just in case you were banging your head on stuff cause your math didn't add up, and it helped you, figured I'd mention it. Keep up the good work.
Great video and love your style. Good tip on tightening the sprocket when re-installed. I just finished putting my 350 together for the 3rd time after porting it a couple of years ago. It scored the piston/cylinder due to air leak on the plastic intake clamp. I tried to cheap out and used a hose worm/screw clamp and it leaked again. Revved her and let off and the sprocket and bearing spun off and into the pool. (yeah my work bench is an old desk out on the pool lanai here in Fl.) I was fishing in the pool with an 18" bar magnet that I use to hand screwdrivers on, LOL Can't wait to finish the rest of the series. I've got another 350, 262, 136, 570, and a 359 I just got from a friend that I want to do work on. Interested to see how you do porting without a 90* grinder. The 350 and 359 have the removeable transfer covers, so easy enough. Again thanks for the video's.
Tin man. Fantastic educational tare down video. Loved it. You took your time explained everything. Thanks You should have beeen a shops teacher. Well Done.
I have a cs590 timber wolf and love it, such a workhorse. Highly recommend getting one it’s based on the same platform and this from a a guy how was running Husqvarna‘s prior.
Super excited for this series! Bought three defective 026 saws for tinkering. Did one with cheap Chinese ms260 piston/jug, bigger carb, base gasket delete, muffler mod and a bit of timing. Took the dremel to the old blown cylinder, but it didn't build confidence to clean up the new one. Once I have a better understanding of timing I'll go back and revise it. Very enjoyable video, thank you for taking the time to share.
Haha this is awesome thanks man I love this channel thanks for all the great tips and sharing your knowledge with us buddy ,be safe TINMAN TAKE HER EASY buddy
I have the equivalent echo but in a concrete saw. Has tons of compression still and is quite the runner. Always wanted to convert it to a chainsaw but not cost effective.
New to your channel and love all you do! Could you give me some advise on a first saw to look for used pretty much ust for firewood? Would love to find one I could walk through your steps and port and learn the skill. Thank you for all you do for us newbies really appreciate you. have a wonderful week.
Hey Tinman LOVE your videos !!!! We are both plagued by this chainsaw disease. You are clearly a smart dude. Just wanted to remind you ( and i know you dont need to be reminded) that when you port a two stroke, you give up some low end grunt for top end power. It IS a trade off. I am no expert but i have ported a butt load of two strokes and that is what i have found out first hand. So if you have a saw that behaves good at low rpm's and has nice torque off idle, then you might re-think advancing your port timing. Although nothing sounds better then buzzin through a log at 13k. Just sayin bro.
Hey tinman glad to put a face with the name I've heard a lot about you from buckin thanks for te video I got a top handle echo I'd like to port so I'll be watchin thanks again brother
Hey Tinman does it hurt when you get done with a little falling lol! JK. Another cool video like that you're mixing it up and moving out of the comfort zone by working on different brands! Keep up the great work 👍👍💪💪😁!
I have a Husqvarna 540 Mark ll I just started the process to Port it . 😁 Got all the casing off going to take off carburetor and muffler tomorrow but I am a little confused about the timing I'm going to be figuring this out as I go 😂 this video is very helpful and if you have any tips for the Husqvarna anything helps thank you
lol yes tighen the clutch on install. Also dont use a impact without the rope in the plug hole when taking it off. Ask me how i know. :) had it fly off on both occasions. Learned real fast thankfully without injury
you need to have a cool logo made with a big bearded guy wearing suspenders, holding a ripping a chainsaw! You can put the decals on your saw builds and sell shirts with the logo to your subscribers!
I hate breaking tools, because all men hate going out and buying more tools. Hehe. Hey Tinman I have just purchased an aftermarket cylinder/piston for a Super xl to put on my xl12. It's going to take a while to get here but I'll take a bunch of pictures and send them to you so you can asses the quality for your self. You might be able to get enough second hand cylinders where you are but it can't hurt to find another source. Cheers big fella.
I got a 6700In trade for a small discount off a tree job I was doing and wasn't to impressed at first I put a good tune on it and it's my go to over my 461 440 and my 272 it's not stronger than them just feels better but it close on power
I got a echo for free from one of my relatives and it had no compression so I tore it down and the piston is chipped up and the rings are busted and the only damage to the cylinder is around the exhaust Port it is missing chunks of the smooth shiny metal I was wondering if I could just hone it and then but new piston and rings or would it be low on compression cause of the cylinder?
The cylinder’s plating chipped, which caused the damage to ring and piston, rather than the other way around. You MIGHT be able to sand it and run it, and I’d try it if you had a spare used piston lying around out of a parts saw. If you have to buy a new piston and rings? Go the correct repair path and buy a full topend kit with cylinder rather than throwing good money after bad.
I had the exact same issue with my CS8000. I'm leaning towards the crank seals may have faied. Doing the whole thing including new crank bearings and new top end. Waiting on a crank seal, hopefully be back together next week.
I've never seen a power Saw that has that much pitch cooked onto it, but I've seen some pretty nasty greasy oily power saws, purple power does wonderful at breaking up the dirty greasy Ness, I then use White distilled vinegar to clean off the purple power
