Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I’m going to sign up for your course. I’m a contractor that started out in erosion and sediment control for large haighway projects. I had to get away from that and now do general construction. Pole barns, decks, fences some concrete. I’m doing a 24x30 pour for a pole barn after we set up the ground board and bring in 6 inches of dirt to raise the grade to match the existing garage. This will be my first big pour so you sharing your knowledge is a life saver thank you very much from one country to another. Keep up the good work.

@@MikeDayConcrete how’s mike doing today. I purchased your concrete course. I love the videos packed full of straight to the point knowledge. I’m wondering how much roadbase/class 5 a person should put under a 4 in slab of concrete that is 24wx30l. It’s a pole barn and I planned on pouring after we put the ground boards on and using those as our forms. I am curious if you have ever done it that way before thanks in advance Mike.

I DO CONCRETE! In Ontario Canada, similar to Maine weatherwise. Poured 150 foot, red 2 step entrance to a tourist restaurant on the beach today...pouring rain, only the steps were under the overhang, we got absolutely soaked....If they weren't scheduled to open for the season this Friday, I would have taken a rain day!!

Thanks Mike for your concrete videos! I'm trying to learn from your videos. I need to make a 6' × 12' × (what I think will be a 14" thick/tall slab, 7" above ground 7" below ground). A 6' × 12' lean-too shed will be secured on top. It will be an extra tall, upwards to 12 & a half feet tall. 2" × 6" boards will be used for the walls for extra strenght & rigidity, not 2 × 4's. I want to build the best concrete slab as possible! I have this project on my mind 24/7!!! 😬

Great video! I was taught almost the exact same way. We have both power screed and kick screeds..... but kick screed probably 80% of our slabs.

Yes, we prefer kick screeding. I think you get a flatter floor.

Thanks for the videos Mike. Probably the best ones on RU-vid and I’ve watched a lot of them. I’m just learning and have a question. When I use the hand mag it leaves a line at both ends of the tool. No matter what I try I can’t get it to not leave a line. So frustrating. Do you have any tips on how to use the mag without it leaving a line? Thanks again
@MikeDayConcrete
@MikeDayConcrete 5 лет назад
When the mag is new and not broken in, it will leave a line even if you're experienced. Your steel trowel will also. You just have to keep going over and over it as the concrete dries and the lines will go away more and more with each pass.

Hi, Great video,thanks. How to pour slab edge footings 16"x16" with steel reinforcement and the rest of 20'x25' area with 4" deep of foundation , can you pour the whole area at the same time with footing? I'm a newbie and it will be nice if you included in your course. Thanks for your time..

Hey Mike. I'm 36 and starting an apprenticeship soon. I've done construction before but I can't wait to start concrete. What's the best advice for a guy starting fresh and new to the industry?
@javistacks3844
@javistacks3844 5 лет назад
When I started screeding concrete it was like that staying low and kicking but that with wet concrete, but when it hard like 4 to 5 slump we used a different trick u put one leg forward and the other spread back two pulls u get more leverage and cover more area and faster you can pour more and don't get as tired ,

I’m doing the ground work for a 24’x30’ mono slab. The concrete is to be 12 inches on the outside edge and 6 inches in the middle. How wide should the outside footing be before I start the 6 inch hump in the middle? Thanks

I do small projects that me and 1 or2 other guys can handle like a garage slab or sidewalks and footers my biggest pet peeve when it comes to flat work is when a guy can't use the rake and I'm skreeting back 10 inches or having to stop and grab the rake from a guy and fill in holes.
@MikeDayConcrete
@MikeDayConcrete 4 года назад
Yea, it takes some time to get good at raking. If they're going to be good, they should get it after about a week.

What kinda slab should I use in west texas
@Linkerconcrete
@Linkerconcrete 5 лет назад
We kick screed our slabs. Been doing concrete for 7 years, been in business for myself for the past 3. Another trick we use is me and my guys have all the same mag floats and once we empty out truck one guy goes to one end of the form and puts his mag float ontop of it and another guy does the same on the other end and they pull a string line tight and lay it over top of their mag float handle and the other guy will float down the concrete until the string line is barely touching the top of his handle and mark it with a X like you do. BTW, awesome work!

What can't you do in the winter because of the cold weather?
@MikeDayConcrete
@MikeDayConcrete 4 года назад
You can as long as you protect the sub-base from freezing and the concrete from freezing after you finish it.

Do you guys always pour a 4000 for slabs or do you ever do anything less
@MikeDayConcrete
@MikeDayConcrete 5 лет назад
We also pour 3000 and 3500. But always 4000 on exterior slabs, patios, sidewalks, pool decks. This guy just wanted 4000 for his garage.
