PPE is Personal Protective Equipment, meaning gloves, respirator, & now they’re saying even goggles are recommended 🤗

@@stejo394 oh ok , I was gone wash my hands , sanitize , then put the gloves on then wipe down the counter with clorox wipes I was prepared for that part😂😂

@@carleyfontenot2836 just make sure you have gloves and a respirator thats the most important step before resin because it is toxic and cab be dangerous if done with out ventilation and a respirator (masks won't cut it), and gloves

Stephanie J your video saved me tonight because glitter got all over where I didn’t want it to be, and I always tried using a napkin or my fingers and nothing would work then you said tape and I’m like..I don’t got tape but I got stickers right now 😂

What’s a respirator and where can I get one

Not all resin requires a respirator. I've been working with epoxy Resin for almost 30 years, on everything from art, castings, furniture, countertops bartos yachts, and flooring. Theres MANY types of resin that are no VOC ..require no respirator unless your sanding, cutting or forming on a lathe and creating dust and particulates.

Honestly I made this video before I knew just how bad resin ashtrays can be. They’re great for decor and for only catching ashes. You shouldn’t snub out anything in it as it can heat up the epoxy & release harmful fumes and not to mention ruin your design. I’ve seen people swear by a thermal sealant spray after you pull the piece but I haven’t attempted it.

I have the same problem with my ashtrays, I used rasin and the cig just burned mine, Idk why, I’m very disappointed

Try heat resistant resin

Hi there! I use acetate paper to apply the vinyl to before I put it into the resin. I’ve tried without and the heat cause my design to curl a bit. I don’t seal my vinyl before I put it in but I have heard of people painting on a thin coat of resin beforehand, I personally haven’t seen any negative side effects from not prepping it so I’m going with it 😅 I do exactly what you said, thin layer just enough to have the vinyl completely encased then another layer behind. Micro bubbles are HARDDDD to get rid of. I try to pour my resin back & forth in between a couple cups in hopes of them slowly working their way to the surface. It’s really important to take your time while mixing to avoid them (I struggle hard with this). I actually have done dried floral pieces! Kinda the same as the vinyl, some people coat them with a thin layer before putting them in, I personally don’t. But it’s super important that whatever you put into the resin is 100% dried out as things containing moisture can actually rot over time 😬

You can coat it afterwards with something. If you're going to do that, make sure to slightly sand the surface so whatever you're coating with will stick. A 500 grit paper will most likely be good

Hey, I have the same issue. My ashtray got burns due to the cigarette.. how do I solve this problem

@@shirinpitale7789 using uv resin or e6000 glue a penny in the ashtray then spray with polyacrylic spray. when putting out a cigarette use penny, try not to leave sitting in an ashtray..

Regular resin (table top, casting, etc) cures simply because you mixed the parts together. UV resin is what takes a UV lamp to cure. This is not uv

So I wouldn’t recommend actually snuffing out the cherry on the resin, like you’d be fine to ash into it but to apply a direct heat source could release harmful vapors if the resin got hot enough.

You absolutely can! Some brands recommend not allowing a full cure time in between layer pours but so far I haven’t had any issues with it.

Epoxy usually comes in two part solutions, so you’d mix them according to the packaging before using. They do have some that comes premixed but I don’t know the first thing about that 😅 thank you so much! The silicone piece is called a mold 🤗

You’d want to wait a few hrs if you want separation between layers ☺️

I personally haven’t used a mold release yet with any of my projects, I find if you mix properly and wait the right amount of time you shouldn’t have any problems with silicone molds. Plastic molds are a different story.

Heat will happen as it cures, to cut back on the amount you can pour in layers. I’d recommend 3-5 hrs between layers if this is a concern of yours. I’ve actually had a pour start smoking when I poured too much at a time! Talk about scary 👀

Also on my resin it says to use a 100:47 ratio but I see everybody saying to use an equal ratio? 🥺 now I don’t know which ratio to use

Hi Hannah! Thank you! I let it cure a full 8 hrs for this piece. Each resin brand has their own guidelines, this was Amazing Clear Cast & they say equal parts and it’ll be cured in 8 hrs. The new brand I’m using it’s actually 2:1 ratio and it takes 12 hrs to cure. Always go by what the brand says 🤗

That actually happened to me while trying to encapsulate a dead bee! (fuzzy boi died of natural causes, no bees were hurt in the making 💕) when I looked it up online it said some smoke can be expected but it’s also possible for it to go south real quick from that point. I panicked & took my project outside just to be safe, nothing happened & it stopped smoking pretty quickly thankfully. Some heat is to be expected while it cures, to cut back on that pour small layers allowing them to cure in between 🤗

I’d say maybe around 3-5 hrs, but it’s all personal preference really!

The more resin the hotter its going to get. It was just starting to cure it won't catch on fire dont worry😂 just make sure to always do it in well ventilated area or outside and wear gloves and a mask

@@erikadavis5110 could you use like a regular 3-ply surgical mask or cloth mask? Even if you’re outside?

Every brand has their own set of guidelines, Amazing Clear Cast is ready to be pulled after 8hrs!

It sounds like maybe your mold is either worn down or just didn’t come with a shiny surface, in those situations I topcoat it with a thin layer of resin to bring back it’s shine ✨
