I now own my first fish finder, a echomap 93sv uhd. I recently got it mounted on the dry pod to my bonafide ss107. I’ve never done anything like this before, especially the electrical. Your video was exactly what I needed and have complete confidence in getting it set up now. I actually bought the crimps you recommended so I’m ready to finish up. Thank you Tomy!
Great and helpful video Tomy. I currently have a Garmin Striker 4cv and I run a Noqua 10AH battery but recently had been gifted a 93SV UH to use on my Old Town Big Water 132 kayak. I was thinking I needed to upgrade my battery, but this video showed me I didn't and I was missing a detail or two before watching your video. thank you!!!
I soldered wires together and used adhesive lined shrink tubes to make a water proof connection! Those coupling connectors that come with FF can come loose after time.Nice video keep them coming!
That is the better way to do it. Thanks for mentioning that. The wires did eventually come loose. I end up doing a temporary fix and will be fixing it the correct way soon. Thanks for watching.
My issue now after reading livescope setups is the wire size coming out of battery / will this affect system since even being setup close to livescope they want atleast 12 gauge/ wire at this battery is 14-16 gauge , just making sure it won’t effect performance of livescope ? Can you run a Garmin 1022 off boat accessory battery and the black panoptics box off the separate 20ah hr lithium nocqua ?
What's up buddy. He told me about that. It's pretty awesome he did that. Your will see him in more of my videos in the near future. He also wants to start his own channel soon. Thanks for stopping by.
It draws 1A, so it should last you about 10 hours. It's probably not going to be exactly that. You can help extend the time by lowering the brightness of your screen.
any update on how long these batteries will work with just the fish finder alone. I have read the comments that you have a separate battery for live scope, makes sense as both units will drain the batteries fast. I have an hds live 9 that has 2 ah draw and currently only have 1 10ah nocqua but havent hooked it up yet so its seems like I will only get 5 hours on it but on my hook reveal 5 with .9 ah draw I can go 2 1/2 6-8 hour days on 1 charge. Wondering if on a single 20ah nocqua I can get a full 10 hours
I can get 6-8 hours on a single 10ah. I will lower the brightness to get longer use of the battery. I would prefer the single 20ah. They didn't make them yet when I bought my 10ah batteries.
You could just buy a bigger single battery. I bought the second one thinking it could handle the unit plus Livescope. I end up buying another 18ah dedicated for Livescope. Are you planning to use Livescope? If not, a single battery should be fine.
@@TomyTekOutdoors awesome thank you soo much for the vide and reply.. you saved me from a major headache....soo of course i do have one more question :)) using the smart link is it possible to connect 4 battery packs to the garmin??? i usually fish for the day then camp for an evening and fish the following morning
Thanks for pointing that out. You're right. I end up redoing this b/c I kinked the cable somehow while transporting it. I have a little more mindful, since I have everything setup to be mobile. Thanks for watching.
Tomy, I have the smartlink also. I finally ran my garmin echomap plus 73sv down low enough to switch to the 2nd battery. Garmin says the transducer is not accurate with less than 10v but the battery switch occurred with less than 8v showing on the garmin. The switch was seemless and I didn't notice any reduction in performance but I am not an expert on fishfinders. I used a multimeter to test my connections. I had 12.6v coming out of each battery, 12.6v coming out of the smartlink, 12.6v coming out of the yakpower, 12.6v at the end of the garmin power cable, and the garmin showed 12.2 (i suspect a .4v draw). As I turned on other items connected to the yakpower (berleypro orb, yakpower button lights on bow, stern, and cockpit), the garmin showed a reduction in voltage. I don't run the lights all day, so the heavier draw is limited to low light conditions. I have only used this setup for about 3 months. Nocqua advised draining the batteries regularly before recharging.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I haven't been out on the water long enough for the first battery to run down. I'm also only using my 94sv with it for now. I think I'm going to use a separate battery when I start using Livescope. I'll share my results after I've use it a bit.
@@TomyTekOutdoors great, you are the only other person I know using the smartlink. I have another nocqua connected to their usb port and plugs for dual LED spotlights.
@@tbloutdoors3014 Nocqua batteries are pretty nice. I like how they are waterproof, small and extremely light. It would be nice if they had a bigger battery option. I have a Lowarnce HDS12 on my boat, so I'm going to see how long my Nocquas last with it. I just watched your rigging video. I really like those spotlights. I might have to pick up some.
I’ve always liked the Nocqua batteries but the 18 gauge wires seem like they would hinder performance of fish finders if they are indirectly connected or sharing voltage. They are perfect for lighting, camera, phone, bilge, and live wells...but thinking fish finders with more than 1amp per hour draw going through on off switches and sharing power...might have to rethink this.
Hey Tomy...great video, thx for making! Curious on how your battery usage has been going with the Nocqua and your fish finder. I’m looking to get a Garmin Echomap UHD 74SV...debating if I should get one or 2 of the Nocqua batteries. How long does 1 battery last you? Are you running the Panoptix off the same batteries yet? TIA!
Thank you. I'm glad to help. 2020 has been a tough year for me, so I've only used the Nocqua batteries with my 94SV on a couple of short trips. The longest being about 4 hours of continuous use. One Nocqua should last a day of fishing on a 74SV. I used one Nocqua with my Lowrance Elite 7ti and it would last an entire day of fishing. Just be mindful of the brightness level to conserve the battery. I end up buying an 18ah battery on Black Friday, so I'll be using that for Panoptix. I'll share my Panoptix setup soon. Thanks for watching.
Hey Tomy...can you share a link to the splitter (connect the 2x batteries) you bought? I ended up buying the 94SV... Do you have the 51 or 54 transducer?
@@erichook1519 Here's a link to the smartlink battery connector www.mariner-sails.com/smart-link-battery-connector.html. I was reading on a FB group where people were having some issues with the connector. I'll post an update after a few months of use. I have the older 51 transducer. I got mine mainly for the livescope. I'm planning to also install this on my boat just for livescope and use my Lowrance HDS for down and side scan.
Tomy how long does it take to fully charge the battery, I just purchased the nocqua 10ah came with speed charger, was charged 50% out the box but is taking forever to charge 100%
Tomy, Everyone hates to attempt to resolve Fish Finder issues by throwing extra money at the problem. Unfortunately, almost everything I’ve read regarding poor FF returns points to poor connections and too small of wiring as the most likely culprit with transducer problems being a distant second place. Because I own and like Nocqua, I tried your set up on my HDS 7 Live which requires a bit more draw than the Echomap and would say that the Nocqua components 18 gauge battery wires and resulting connections appear to have yielded very poor returns on my 2 x 10ah Nocqua plus Smart Link system wired per this video. What are your thoughts, (before I give up on this Nocqua set up and purchase a popular 23 ah lithium battery and wire it direct to the FF using 12 gauge wire? Thank you, sir.
I used a single Nocqua 10ah with a Lowrance Elite 7ti and was able to get 6-7 hours with battery left over. I never had any issues with poor returns. I haven't been out long enough with my 94sv to have the the second battery kick in. To be honest, I'm not sure if the smaller wire would be the issue or not. I haven't had an issues yet. I end up buying a 18ah Amped Outdoors battery for my Livescope, so the Nocquas will be dedicated to my 94sv. If I run into any issues, I'll make an update video. Here's a video testing a Nocqua battery and it shows that it doesn't perform up to expectations ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-blq_nkaoslE.html. If you do figure out what's going on, please share your experience if you don't mind. If I come across anything that could help you, I'll let you know. Thanks for watching.
@@TomyTekOutdoors Sure will, sir - appreciate the reply. To be specific the HDS 7 Live uses 1.7 amps @ 13vdc so I’ve ordered a 20 ah lithium which will be wired directly to the FF only, and bypass the YakPower module- all leads 10 or 12 gauge and very short. Nocquas will supply power to all other accessories through Smart Link and Yak Power module. Unfortunately it adds another 4 to 5 pounds.
I just bought the 75 SV and nowhere in any of the instruction manuals does it show what those other two wires are for...blue and brown? It's obvious you did not know what they are for because you never used them. Have you since found out what they are for?
The blue and brown cables are use to connect to NMEA devices. I don't have any, so I don't need to use the wires. If you look on page 5 of this manual, it tells you what they are for www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/GUID-7EC09750-0897-4743-9159-D226DE691962/EN-US/ECHOMAP_Ultra_Installation_EN-US.pdf.
I subbed and love the content. I have the same 10AH and it can run my Lowrance Hook2 for a full day (and then some) on the water. Question - I want to run my go pro to the same 10 ah battery, would it work?
You can use the Nocqua Y-Connector to connect a battery to two devices. Here's a link to one bit.ly/3dDCXrH. Then you can use the Nocqua USB Dual USB port adapter. Here's a link to one amzn.to/3tG6Opl
I end up finding a good deal on an Amped Outdoors 18ah battery on Black Friday, so I bought it. I'll be using that for Livescope only. I'll be using my Nocquas for my fish finder. I'll do an update video soon.
