How to power Effectrode pedals

This video explains and shows how to power two Effectrode tube pedals using CIOKS DC7 power supply. The bigger Tube-Vibe for sure needs two outlets in a parallel configuration using #8800 Parallel adapter Flex while the smaller less power demanding Compressor might work on a single DC7 outlet. In any case you need the red Flex cable and you need to set used outlets for these pedals to 12V DC.

Thanks Poul, I wish I would have seen this before I used my new DC-7 to power an Effectrode Limiting Amplifier LA-1A. I didn't realize that the Effectrode was reverse polarity and just had to send it back to Mr.Taylor for repair ;)

I thougt using that cable would give you 24v. As the two 12v ports would double to 24v?

Awesome, just ordered a DC7 after watching this (own two Effectrode pedals; a Tube-Vibe and a Mercury Fuzz). Do you know if the Mercury Fuzz (600ma requirement in manual like the PC-2A) will also work off of one outlet? Thanks!

Should be fine. I've powered my Mercury with 500ma without any issues.

One quick question: my Effectrode pedal manual says to NOT use centre negative power. Does the CIOKS DC7 provide centre negative or centre positive?

The Cioks 4 has so little Voltage, my Memory Toy doesn't even go into feedback. Will Effectrode pedals equally sound lackluster, or are they designed differently?

The Effectrode Blackbird requires 1.5A@12v. Do you have an adapter to combine 3 outputs in parallel? That would make it a no brainer to power my pedal board out of a DC7 and DC4.

The manual says following: Power requirements: 12VDC @ 1A centre positive ... and that means two outlets of DC7 are sufficient to power it.

Any tips on where to get those banana plug cables for metering?

It's our #1001 Extension Flex which normally is used to prolong any of our Flex cables with additional 50cm. Here I take and cut one of the wires and attach banana plugs, one at each of the ends I have after the cut.

TubeVibe: Parallel adapter (sand grey) + Type 2. Compressor: Type 2.

So it works for a minute, and in fact Effectrode has even said that it works. I received an advertising card for the DC7 included with my recent Fire Bottle purchase. But is this really battle tested? I see the LED came on, and you're saying that this indicates all is well. But you're drawing 60ma over the rating, consistently. Why should I not worry about that? Does the current draw increase when a signal is run through the pedal? I've got three of the big pedals and three of the little pedals from Effectrode. So I'd need two of these. The only two alternatives are to pack a power strip into my pedal board and use the individual DC adapters that the pedals come with, or buy two of the (very expensive and relatively large) power supplies that Effectrode sells.

All our outlets are capable of delivering 10-15% above the stated current ratings being 660mA @ 9V and 500mA @ 12V before they go out of regulation and the status LED turns off. But the 10-15% headroom is also dependant on the overall load of the power supply. As long the LED for a given outlet is lit you ARE fine. If the LED turns off this outlet is out of regulation meaning it's not operating in the normal state. You should then use the parallel adapter flex and two outlets. Just the fact that you are just above the stated limit is not a problem. But once the status LED is off you don't know how much you are overloading and how close you are to the point where the regulation circuit will lower the output voltage to reduce the thermal stress on the particular overloaded outlet. With multiple Effectrode pedals you will be taking the DC7 to its limits but it is designed to deliver all the power we state. So get one and connect all the Effectrode gear you have and let it sweat. Please send me a couple of pictures of that rig and I'll gladly share this on our FB and Instagram. Thanks!

From the Effectrode website: Recently we’ve put the Cioks DC-7 power supply through thorough rigorous testing and can confirm it works superbly with Effectrode pedals. Our audio tests found no noise issues, in fact operation was extremely quiet. Additionally, we also soak-tested it over night with three of our larger pedals connected and one small pedal. Again the DC-7 operated without issues. The DC-7 appears to be an excellent piece of engineering, being very well put together, and we’re happy to recommend it as a power solution to our customers.
