Hey everyone! Thank you for watching my video, I'm so happy to hear all this amazing feedback on it being helpful and encouraging! My goal is simply to bring short and attainable lessons to this platform, and help bassists become better, and not discouraged by challenges. But something magical is happening with this video, and I felt like I wanted to share it and make it more accessible to everyone. I am a bassist indeed, but I am also a composer and a songwriter. I am so grateful for all of you who visited my Bandcamp and purchased my music!! And so I wanted to write this note since it is not a given, that people go through the trouble of finding my work and contributing to it. So THANK YOU!! And just to make it a little easier, if you didn't get the chance and want to listen to my music and get to know the other side of me and what I do, please feel free to visit yonitspiegelman.bandcamp.com/ listen to my original music, and purchase if you like it :) Thanks for following, thanks for your support, and keep in touch!

Absolutely brilliant lesson. Your explanation has helped me massively. I started to learn the bass a few months ago and the 16th notes were really bashing me. Thanks to your superb lesson I got it right now. Thank you so much, Yonit.

Thank-you Yonit for this clear and well presented lesson. You have no idea how poorly done and glossed over most lessons on time counting are. I have searched dozens and dozens of videos and yours is the only one I've come across where you explain EVERYTHING! Most others assume far too much of the student, leave basic (but important) things out, and fail to tell you "why" something is important to learn. Thank-you again - I have subscribed and am looking forward to learning from your videos. 😃🙂

Yeah, playing super slow is as hard as super fast, it's then that you find out how anxious you are by hitting the first beat too soon

Your lessons are jam-packed with useful ideas- thank you! I struggle with pedalling 1/8 and 1/16 notes and your idea of starting off by just playing on measure at a time helps a ton!

I’m still in the dark. When I see 1/8 or 1/16 or whatever I usually always apply it to measuring something but never music.

As stated in other reviews this lesson is fantastic. I struggle big time with counting. I can typically look at the music, figure out the rhythm and get it right most of the time. If I try to count it while playing its a mess..............a big mess. I really get into Motown and there is so much syncopation in that great music the counting while playing seems way too much to bear. This lesson was really good on how to count better. I typically would count the 16th beats and hold the note for (as an eight note) two of the 16th counts. I felt doing the 1 & ah for the two 16th notes in the first quarter note would be wrong but my senses told me other. After seeing your lesson I will correct my thinking and see how much I can improve. More lessons with this kind of thing would be great!! Even more in depth information on the fumbling most who are learning how to play will encounter would be very very useful. Love everything you do!! Thanks so much!!

im a beginner bassist and the other day I was listening to drum beat and confused myself because I was counting 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and, then I realised wait a minute, I can also count 1 2 3 4 to this same beat? and I was so confused because usually I thought it depending on the tempo of the beat. Today I was wondering how to keep track when counting out 16th notes, and I found this video, now it makes sense, I was ONTO SOMETHING THE OTHER DAY!! Thanks for making this so clear!

Hello Yonit, Falling apart is my favorite song and also video. Question, perhaps I misinterpreted one of your videos with regards of not playing open notes. say for example, the bass part of the song "all my loving" by the Beatles, it has a lot of open notes and on youtube specially the Ed Sullivan performance Paul plays the song with a lot of open notes, would you suggest to look for the same open notes he plays and find them and play them on the fretboard? Please excuse the question if it appears to stupid, i am a begginer.

I left info on spirit of the radio into riff from rush It has 1/16 notes I believe. I wrote out my short hand thinking or long hand as I was trying to figure out what scale. here's my correction or short story version He's utilizing notes using the 3rd position E natural minor the c# not in it they use ITS THIRD POSITION E NATURAL minor JUST THE NOTES IN IT FROM A AT THE 5TH FRET GO A,B,C D,E,F#,G,A,B.C.D THE C ON THE E STRING IS NOT USED IN RIFF THEY ADD A C# to the third position their using the ladder method and twice back up the riff I broke down in three parts I found out if breaking the 1 riff down into 4 parts uses THIS IS COOL ( each section of the one longer riff) keeps adding 1) 3 notes 2) 4 notes 3) 5 notes 4) 6 notes section 3 and 4 the back up on the ladder couple rungs to make it seem longer to get to the end and third positon E natural minor a 7 note scale is the same as G natural minor (7 note scale) using the 2nd position instead of EMajor 3rd positon of moving up or down 3 fret to get a scale you already know

Love your lessons so much! And your Mustang bass sounds so good! Never seen one in this colour before! So it’s like a parts Stang. Do you put it together yourself? Hey Eric! For this video I used my Mustang bass with P Daddy Coils Boutique pick ups, and I went through an MXR Bass Di + and an Ampeg SVT-3 Pro to my Universal Audio Arrow interface. (The BeatBuddy was also going straight in the Arrow). When I record with my Sadowsky, it's built-in pre-amp is so good that I plug in right in the Universal Audio interface and put a CLA 3A compressor on it after. Hope this helps! :)
