The sign of a great teacher is someone who takes a simple concept, a foundational exercise, and presents it in a way that is clear, relevant and of value to players at all levels. Excellent tutorial. :)
Thank you so much. I have played drums as a professional for over 50 years. I began playing some guitar in college back in the mid 70's. Now I wanted to learn some bass and I found you and your videos are really helpful.
Thanks very much. Subscribed. I’ve played bass casually for 30+ years and am constantly learning. I am impressed how small your hands are, and your use of the pinky finger….something I’ve got to do more of!
Dont need this, but you got it. Mucho kudos. I am glad musicians like you are helping those. Back in my day, i had to learn it all on my own with no guidance
Great info. I’ve been waiting for this for a year now, just having picked up the bass. I notice that many songs are truly built on these bass patterns. Thank you!
Thanks Yonit for this lesson 🙏 I also see it as a way to master/memorize a bass neck: starting with this simple shape, slowly and then as you do in your line, move along the neck with the same notes. Thank you again.
Love your channel. Love your hair you are an excellent bass player. Thank you for the tips and pointers. Of playing. Bass guitar 🎸 it really helps. Thank you so much 👍👍👍😊
Always great to get back to the fundamentals. I have a strong urge to play too many notes and get way out of the pocket. This reminds me to stay in there until the time is right to let loose. Glad i found your channel!
This is so fun to watch. As an absolute beginner I think I need a first three steps though. Which videos might show me the first little steps I need to start moving? Things that I’m aware of (but I know I don’t know enough to know what I need) -“Plucking” a string - fingers on the frets (tips and tricks) - damping at the end of a note - timing ( I think you have a lot of references to timing ) I have been watching a few of your videos and I enjoy the funky groove you bring to the material you share. I’m hoping some of it will rub off on me 😉
I've been playing bass on and off for years and I've found out how to play catchy tunes and that is listening to John carpenters movie music..thank u..
CAN YOU FEEL THE GROOVE!?!? - James Brown I can always feel the groove here. I love your videos Yonit! I'd sign up for lessons in s second! Thank you for all the content!
Great tutorial idea, very engaging style, and nice bass tone. The only downsides about this tutorial is the way your fingers are actually obscuring what you are doing from a visual perspective. It's worth using the 'wrong' fingers for demonstration, like the index finger just to show the note with all other fingers out of the way. The captions don't reinforce or provide an alternate explanation of the action either, though what they do say is useful. I'm mainly a guitar player so I genuinely got something out of this vid, thanks!
Great lesson. One suggestion: be way more specific with your fingers. When you spread your fingers over the fretboard like that, it’s virtually impossible - especially for beginners - to see which string and which fret you push down.
This was great I’ve been playing a year and shapes like this really help cause I tend to stick using the regular major scale shape so If I was playing root D on the A string I’d use the flat 7th on the g string which doesn’t sound as good Really need to learn more shapes etc like this!
I like the way u bring the theory in on d examples- one of yr presentation u put in context just to use root 3rd and 5th for minor and major scales. If u get a chance can u cover using the "7th" note of d scales it seems to b every where in song books!
You should do a lesson on the Nashville Number System and the three different fingering positions. I think that’ll help your “students” to understand, and quickly learn the groove pattern that you’re teaching. It’s kinda like when you play the blues,…and a lot of times the root notes, as you know,…are 1, 4, 5, which is the pattern that most people are familiar with. The different finger positions would allow them to play the same groove, but within the three patterns on the neck. Love what you’re doing,…just thought I’d throw those ideas out there.
Great lesson. Simple on the surface, but a real springboard for more difficult lines. Thank you! As an Israeli bassist, do you know Hagar Ben Ari from James Corden’s band? She was NYC based until she moved to LA.
