People watching this video should know that these materials won't conform to code for most fireplaces. You cannot have wood framing abutting your fireplace. Drywall (even fire-rate drywall) is considered combustible. It slows fire, doesn't stop it. Clearances vary for each fireplace (gas, vs. electric vs. wood). Do your homework and don't burn your house down.
When putting in new dry wall around the fire place was it flush with the fireplace frame? Does that mean when you install tile, the tile will be slightly above the fireplace frame?
You should have 2 inches of cement board extended about 2 feet for the extended hearth. This will get you an R 1.0. Tiles alone without an R 1.0 do not meet most code.
Quick question...taking on similiar project...r u saying 2 inches thick of cement board in contact with drywall and metal of firebox before installing tile? Know you left this comment a while ago thanks for any response.
You gave me and idea for my hearth the old terracotta tile is cracked and ugly I’m gonna have to bust it up I’m gonna have to find that tile board and figure out what thick ness I’m gonna white wash the fireplace but it a non operating fireplace so totally just sprucing it up I just didn’t know how to fix the hearth now I got an idea
