It’s sweet how insistent Dora is when trying to get pets and loves from you while talking. She loves her human!

I think a lot of this advice is good for regular travel as well as packing for an event.

I don't go to costume events as I'm way too poor living on disability. Perhaps in the future when I am able to go back to work, that will change. It is fun to dress up for local events and watch the parades. I do however love to make period clothing pieces to mix and match with my contemporary wardrobe. I tend towards Goth/Punk in style and taste. Its a challenge to have a small capsule wardrobe and have each piece to doube, triple or quadruple duty that goes from business professional to casual to church and fun.

Youre right - packing is complex when travelling. Ive packed many a costume for interstate events - where wrong packing was going to cause irreversible damage to the costume. I made a Zapp Brannigan ensemble for my husband for an interstate comic-con, and the gold shoulder fins on the shoulder seam, I had to pad out and so it had to have its own suitcase. Esp as his boots were also specially made - but not by me. Packing for costume events is a diff kind of packing all together!

Hi Rebecca! I am an ambulatory wheelchair user (I can walk, stand for short times but I use a wheelchair most of the time) and I would like to have your opinion. Before becoming disabled I had started to get into history bounding and historical costume as everyday wear...i would like to know which of the decades of historical fashion that you work with would you recommend to me to get back into? Thoughts from anyone else would of course be very welcome, especially if you can link me to appropriate patterns! Love, light and spoons to all those who need them!

My advice would be to watch Retro Claude on RU-vid. She is a disabled historical costumer, and does quite a few videos on sewing, and wearing historical garments, as a person who uses mobility aids. She has done everything from around the 1830’s-1960’s. I hope you’re able to find what works for you, and you have much joy with your history bounding!!

I definitely second checking out Retro Claude! She would also know much better than I would what eras of costumes would work best for wheelchair users.

I recomend to make 1 packlist thats are for every event allways. Like hygien product. Buissnis cards. Hairbrush. And that type of things. Those that are the this need to come with me every time so only need to add the costumes and those things. And well the modern cloths you want this trip.

Back in the day I’d take a trunk to reenactment events and two large tupperwares and two suitcases and a dress bag to SF conventions

It seems as if Dora has her come off, I hope she and Lion are healing well, and that your stress level has tapered off. This was a great video. I, too, am an inveterate paper list maker. It seems more real to me and I get a lot of satisfaction color coding them (nerd alert, lol) and crossing things off as I accomplish them. Now, I’m not incredibly technologically inclined, so believe me when I say how easy it is to create a virtual QR code for your business card. There’s tons of free apps. Alls you need to do is take a picture of your business card (you could do a front and back of the card in one shot), convert it to a QR code with the app, and people can scan it with their phones. Saves paper too. If you’re ever caught without paper cards, you could have a back up on your phone. You could also link a website or anything to that code. Take care. Looking forward to the bonus video.

@@dancooper-joneshmmm, it's definitely there for me now, and it was definitely there for me yesterday (but not earlier today when you left your earlier comment). If you close your RU-vid app and reopen (or refresh your page if you're on a browser), does it show up?
