In this video, we will discuss the best ways to prepare for Infantry School. Initially we go over important terms we use in the Army and the we discuss preparing for Infantry School. Also, I've included an instructional workout video that you can do from anywhere in preparation for 11B training. #army #infantry #basictraining #advancedtraining

Good vid. I’m retired Infantry (OSUT 1997). The best thing I can say, is plan to spend half your career cold, or hot, hungry, tired, in mild pain, and exhausted. You can embrace the suck and be proud, or you can break down and defeat yourself mentally. The mental component will kill you faster than the physical. I’ve seen really athletic dudes break down in training, at the unit level, and in combat. Almost always defeated by their own mindset. Also, don’t go to your unit cocky. OSUT has a way of making you feel like a giant. Understand that, though you got some good training, you still don’t know squat. I don’t think I ever stopped learning new things my entire career. When I was a new private, I picked the brains of the E-4 mafia, paid attention, learned by asking and observing. Your unit will respect a sponge much more than an arrogant boot.

Went through OSUT back in 2019, best advice for the most part when dealing with Drills is to just shut up, listen, and apply it to the best of your ability. Everything is easy if you come at it with the right mentality, and even if you aren't the strongest, just put in that extra work when possible while you're there. Go from being the weakest to the strongest, and it will pay off.

My soldier would add Be prepared for how easy it is to get recycled, counseled & Article 15’s. It seems they want nothing more than to dish these out. Things such as getting sunburnt, hurt on the job, fighting, etc. Check your ego and tame your temper. Expect nothing pleasant. You deserve nothing everything is earned. It’s going to be different than you thought but you likely won’t know how until you experience it.
@SFCBEITZ
@SFCBEITZ 2 месяца назад
I would agree with this but one thing that needs to be addressed is your specific command dictates how your experience goes and the soldiers in your unit can make this experience better or worse depending upon a variety of factors. What I mean is: one platoon might have it very rough, soldiers being recycled, counseled, receive Article 15's, etc. Another platoon might have it easy breezy, they receive a lot of down time, they make several trips to the PX, they get more time for chow, etc. The Army is always experimenting and looking for ways to have a higher success rate with soldiers graduating Infantry School. Should they be harder on the soldiers, should they be easier, should they get less down time, should they get more down time, etc. I could give endless examples. I say all that to say, everyone's experience is different. Regulations, policies, and procedures change, leadership/Drill Sergeants change, training sites change...so your ability to adapt and overcome is very important.

One big difference is 11B trains long range and close combat…19D keeps their distance. I assume you’re going active duty? If you were going Guard they can guarantee that you’re an 11B but yeah, active they can make you an 11C and I wouldn’t be too excited about that either. I didn’t even know that was a thing when I joined lol but when I was at Infantry School and they started telling us our duty stations, I heard a couple people get told they’d be 11C’s…but I’d say maybe only 2 soldiers out of 40 something

2:58 question: what if multiple candidates maxed out the ACFT (which I assume happens all the time for infantry candidates), would there then be multiple "Iron Soldier" titles awarded?
@SFCBEITZ
@SFCBEITZ 3 месяца назад
I hate saying this because I say it a lot, however, it is the absolute truth; every command in the Army does things differently so it'll depend upon the command. One unit might give several Iron Soldier awards if several soldiers max the ACFT, but another unit might say, well, soldiers 1, 2 and 3 all maxed the ACFT so let's look at weapons qualifications to narrow this down...and whoever shot the best combined with their maxed PT score will be who is selected for the Iron Soldier. That's one example I could give out of many.

lol I understand...I've mentioned this several times in the past but we had a 42 year old in our Infantry platoon at Infantry School and he did just fine! What is so crazy is, I am not even 42 years old yet, and I've already completed my whole career and retired lol but with that being said, being 33 and 30, you guys should do just fine! As far as running shoes, I would suggest going to an actual running shoe store that measures the length and width of your feet, and assists you in finding a custom pair...however, that might be out of your price range. For me personal, I've always stuck with Nike Pegasus shoes for running, they just feet my feet the best, they're comfortable, sporty, they're lightweight with good soles and traction. However, other brands I recommend for running are Brooks, Asics, Hoka, and Saucony.

I arrived at Airborne School via a cattle truck from Sand Hill. Surprisingly, the Black Hats didn’t target us; instead, they went after the Officers, Navy SEALs, Marines, and other “jabronies.” Honestly, I didn’t mind the physical demands-no matter how much they made us run-because we had access to doughnuts, coffee, and even soda at the chow hall. Plus, we got night and weekend liberties, which made the experience a bit more manageable. In Airborne School, you’ll run everywhere, and always in boots. I almost got recycled during the first week because I had never practiced a parachute landing fall (PLF). But thankfully, I improved fast, which was a huge relief. By the second week, we were suspended in the air and dropped to the ground to be graded on our landings. The jump towers weren’t open, so our first jump ended up being straight from a C-130. Airborne School is tough, but if you listen to instructions, have heart, and really want it, you can make it through in just three weeks.

What would you recommend or advise to a woman wanting to become 11X?
@SFCBEITZ
@SFCBEITZ 2 месяца назад
That's an excellent question, and I think is smart of you to ask. First off I would say to make sure you are in really good shape when you leave for Infantry School. I am sure there will be some male doubters...but they cannot say much if you are killing it in the physical fitness department and staying up with everyone during platoon runs and road marches. When I was in the Infantry we did not have females. My concerns at that time would have been: can they pull their own weight because equipment is heavy and it's a very physically demanding job. You'll need to be able to deal with a lot of potty mouths lol when a bunch of guys get together what is said can get dirty, quick...it's typically all in fun, but still...and if you start diming them out for things you hear, no one will want to say anything around you and you could end up isolated on your own quickly...everything will be magnified on you, until you prove yourself in several categories. You will need to have thick skin...Infantry is not the best MOS when it comes to keeping your body clean. I took a lot of "baths" using baby wipes lol but if you start complaining about things like this you will get frowned upon. If the guys complain about it, it won't be a big deal, if a female does, it will be a big deal...so I can see a double standard. I think the most difficult thing for a female will be that you'll have to prove yourself at Infantry School and fit in with your peers...and then when you get to your actual unit, it'll be the same thing. The best way to fit in will be to maintain the same level of physical fitness, not complain, not expect any freebees or anything given to you because you are a female, and just earn the respect of the people within your unit. I know some things I just mentioned might seem harsh, but I am just trying to keep it real. I can see there being an unspoken double standard for females. Now, on the positive side, if you do keep up with the guys physically and pull your own weight, I can see you getting a level of respect that most guys won't ever get. You may even get shielded and taken care of better than most. If you decide to do it, I'd love to hear from you along your journey! Best of luck and make sure you know "why the sky is blue" lol it's an Infantry thing

@SFCBEITZ
@SFCBEITZ 2 месяца назад
You will be happy with your decision. I enlisted more Prior Service Marines into the Guard than I did from any other branch. I think a big part of the reason is because I enlisted a Marine, he told his boys that he was liking the Guard, then they started enlisting, then they started telling their Battles about the Guard, and it was a domino effect. You will get treated with a lot of respect and your prior service will be looked highly upon, will help you get promoted quicker, etc.
@SFCBEITZ

What is the likely chance for someone who graduated basic training to want to change their mos to 11x?
@SFCBEITZ
@SFCBEITZ Месяц назад
I need a little more context. Are you a split option who has completed BCT and willing be going to AIT this summer? I would say it's highly unlikely to change your MOS if you are in this situation...however, you can in the future. Having multiple MOS's in the military is one of the best things you can do for your career. You make yourself a more valuable skilled soldier, it helps you with promotion points and promotions, and it'll help you after the Army being multiskilled. Watch this video I made about changing your MOS. Can I change my MOS? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uceVFqjYo0g.htmlsi=TpNrAZSrEQC28CXW

@@SFCBEITZ I completed basic training already and waiting for Ait, however thru my observation I think 11x would be more meaningful and more real. I'm sure you see where I'm going.
@SFCBEITZ

@@AncientEL07 when are you scheduled to ship to AIT? Like I said in my last comment, worst case you can knock out your scheduled AIT and then change your MOS to 11 series in the future. I am qualified in 5 MOS's. Having multiple MOS's helped me fly through the ranks...so knocking out your current MOS and then going 11B will be very beneficial.

@SFCBEITZ
@SFCBEITZ 3 месяца назад
I made a video on this topic some years ago but it's still very relevant. Below I will link the video. In short, yes, you will be able to change your MOS at some point in the future, but, the Army will want you to be a 92A for awhile before they allow you to change your MOS. They just spent like $100,000 or so to get you proficient in a certain skillset and they want to get their money's worth out of you before they allow you to do something different. On a positive note, having multiple MOS's will be very valuable as your career progresses. So, that 92A MOS will be highly looked upon once you become a 11B... Can I change my MOS? literally just get good at running, pushups, squats, abs, and deadlift and youll be fine youll be doing alot of that when you get to basic your gonna get smoked and your gonna hate life lol i just graduated not to long ago. red phase they just smoke the shit out of you and try and teach you how to march, eat in a defac, and youll do some team building and small "rucks" with an assault pack. white phase you sit at shooting ranges all day only firing your rifle about 2-3 iterations just to sit in the bleachers all day legit doing nothing without talking oh and if pisses rain you will be sleeping in the rain as expected of an infantry soldier youll also have more lengthy rucks to get you used to it before the forge. blue phase you do combatives which means the drills are gonna beat the fuck out of you and you cant fight back and youll learn enough to get your ass kicked, youll also do the forge which if your infantry youll prob ruck 30ish miles in those 3 days and 2 nights plus whatever shit they have you do. osut wasnt to bad tho thats where you get to do some cool stuff like shoot the m240 and the m249 also some of the bigger guns like the mk19, STT was also pretty cool youll be up all night pulling security on bushes while the drill sgts throw artillery sims at you all night to practice getting out of a patrol base but you do learn squad attack, attack on bunker and react to contact which was actually fun i got to be a team leader for that, and finally the big week come the final FTX which is STT on crack youll get like 3 hours of sleep a night youll ruck everywhere and youll perform everything you've learned and your 16 mile ruck to honor hill which was literally like walking through the gates to heaven......enjoy OSUT cause its the closest thing i had to hell

Our bodies need salt, protein, and healthy fats in order to operate at an optimal level. Saying saturated fats are unhealthy because McDonald’s is throws the baby out with the bath water.
