8:50 Couple of comments on the gutter cleaning: If you have a dad like mine who's up the ladder you're footing, wear a cap and don't look up if he asks you a question because you'll get a mouthful of leaves... Also, to save moving the ladder loads, use a narrow hoe to bring the gunk to you.

I tie a rope to my bucket handle, then climb the ladder with just the rope in my hand. I pull up the bucket (with any tools in) and then tie it to a rung with a half hitch on a bight of rope. But, more importantly, I can untie and lower the full and now very heavy bucket of gunk to the ground before climbing down the ladder myself. Makes the descent much easier. The gunk goes on the compost heap, of course.

If you have petrol power tools, drain the fuel and store them indoors. Pressure washers and anything with water inside to be protected from the freeze. Also anything with batteries such as jumpstarts. Tip from a Machine Mart employee.

Check insulation is correctly in place in attics especially after doing jobs in there. Also, check extractor fans are properly ducted, clean and clear. Check around windows and doors for draughts and adjust/seal them (my dark-coloured French doors don't shut in summer as they expand in the heat, so I have to ease them off in summer and close gaps in winter.

@@TheDIYGuy1That's a really modern looking boiler. My boiler pressure went right down the other down. I have no idea why. Luckily, i know how to top it up. I have a query i notice sometimes green liquid stuff leaking from a few valve's why does that happen? many thanks 😊.
@JUSTAUFCNOOB
@JUSTAUFCNOOB 5 месяцев назад
@@chrissy212e You need to get that seen too ASAP , that’s most likely why your pressure dropped. The green liquid is water and bras/copper corrosion mixed together, when brass and copper corrodes (copper has a lot of brass in it) they let off a green residue, it sounds like your pipes are degrading and may need replacing, but they 1000% need looking at bud their could be a leak elsewhere in the system if not damaged , everything needs resealing up.

If bottom of radiator/s stays cold, it is likely to have sludge in it. Install a sludge filter and clean it at least annually when boiler is serviced. Have the system flushed first, and use a corrosion inhibitor as required.

Nice and timely! I happened to clean my gutters today. There is another urgent thing around boilers. Check the condensation pipe for blockages. A few winters back, my boiler stopped working on Xmas. The condensation pipe had flash-frozen. Get ziplock plastic bags and fill them with 60C water (1:1 boiling water with cold water). Wrap the pipe with these plastic bags. Maybe wet towels will also do the trick. You'll see several huge chunks of ice fall from the pipe, and the boiler will resume working. In Netherlands this pipe is heated to prevent this, in the UK it's usually outside. My new boiler has the pipe connected to internal drains, towards the kitchen sink. To save money, turn off the bedroom's TRV during the day. Hive and Honeywell have smart-TRVs that can be set with a schedule.

In America we have frost proof faucets that don't require draining. The valve is in the warm side of the house and has a long shaft around 8 inches where you can turn the water on. As for your roof I us a product called spray and forget and add to your garden hose then you spray your roof and as time goes by and with rain it keeps your roof clean of mold or moss and it work really well and you do not have to get on roof to apply just spray from bottle.

Check and clean dehumidifier - much more efficient than extractor fans that suck heat out of the house along with steam. When drying washing indoors they reduce damp, and increase drying speed, and reduce condensation on windows. You have to pay to run them, but the fans can be turned off and hot air stays in for longer.

Any exposed heating and hot and cold water copper pipes that arent in the internal warm zone, say in the roof crawl space and attic space should be lagged with foam lagging and cable ties. Would only do this if accessible and confident to move about in roof spaces, some can be tight and very dark.

Use a dehumidifier to get your humidity down to 50 this will keep your house warmer for longer, meaning your heating will not come on as often as dryer air is more easy to keep warm for longer periods and save on gas. We use 3 to 4 more pounds a week running one but have saved £7 a week on gas’s meaning £3 a week saving house is warm as hell and no damp or mould. Even has a laundry mode when people dry there cloths I. The house I. The winter to get rid of the moisture. Excellent machines.

Unscrew the TRV's off each radiator, get a pair of pliers or grips and wiggle up and down the TRV pin and spray with WD40. Dont hit the pin with a hammer, it will fly out!! Then replace the TRV. TRV pins tend to stick on older raditor valves which renders the valve useless for turning the temp up and down.

I have a Baxi combi, I was working away and the pressure would drop over time. After bleeding air from the radiators in the system I filled up using the expansion tank. However, I found that this then put too much water in the expansion vessel, when the boiler turned on the pressure kept rising until it caused and error fault on the boiler. After some months, luckily I found the pressure leak was due to a failing washer on a radiator cap. Couldn't find the right fitting washer so changed the cap and viola the pressure stabilised. Still had to call an engineer to bleed the expansion vessel though! What about boiler cover, the insurance companies are happy to take your cash but not so enthusiastic about performing the annual boiler service! E.g you have to call them to book and arrange.

Not necessarily something to do on a yearly basis, but I've found putting heat reflectors behind the radiators against outside walls warms my bedroom up quicker (not noticed it working as well in my much larger front room, but that takes ages to heat anyway vs my smaller bedroom). I generally only put the heating on an hour or so before bed to warm my bedroom up since to save money I now go for walks in the evenings so don't need it on when I'm not there (another tip for people, I guess) so having the bedroom warmer quicker saves me money as I won't need the heating on as long

I make sure all my locks, door hinges, window runners, trickle vents and handles jave been cleaned and lubricated. A quick look up in the attic is also worth it. You can check the roofing felt for splits. A little feel on the Rockwool insulation for any moisture can be a sign of leak or condensation build up. When it gets cold, rats or mice may also try to set up home in the attic. Look out for dropping or nesting material.

I have 2 outside taps, one of which I use to clean the cars so through the winter so rather than keep having to turn the supply on and off I made a tap protector from a used plastic 4 pint milk container by cutting a hkle in the side to slot over the tap and some used bubble wrap to lag it I had knocking around so cost was £0.00. As a question why didn't you route the pipe insidethr housd so the feed to the outside tap was from the top so once the isolation valve was turned off gravity drained the water from the pipe? For my main house guttering I've installed mesh over the top of it as where I live there are a lot of trees and moss on the roof. This prevents the leaves from the trees blocking the downspouts so I don't have to get my ladders out when we have heavy rain and so far the only place that collects the moss is where the lead gullies run off but that only results in a small amount of water coming over the guttering rather than the usual deluge if the downspout gets blocked and takes far less time to sort out.

Air is always suspended in water. The fish breath it? Heating the water pushes the suspended water out of suspension?
@tobysherring1369
@tobysherring1369 6 месяцев назад
Fish breathe water, from which they can extract oxygen. The issue here is that air gets into the system when you drain an outside tap, or change a radiator, or other maintenance. It gets pumped around the central getting system and takes up space that should be circulated with hot water. It you get rid of the air, the system is more efficient. You can't get rid of it all, but it's a well known saving.

You shouldn’t have a scoulding hot water coming out of your heating system, if you do, somethings wrong. Your water temp should be around 60-65c. Also there is a disclaimer to work safely in the description. Unfortunately whilst i try to help as many people online as I can I cannot touch on every single safety point or the video would be so long that it just wouldn’t be viable. Thanks
