Welcome to the school of tomorrow. Welcome to The Futur.
The logic does work If you put "a lot of effort into it" and present something mediocre, you're just a novice and are not worth the money If you take a long time, you should present the result, your iterations and why you need that time And if someone else does the same quality job for less time and money, I'm going with them
And that goes to show you the entire world’s workforce is getting screwed if their good at what they do. That’s why so many people dumb themselves down to other’s levels and it ruins them in the end…
There are several videos going around where book time mechanics talk about their flat rate, you read the comment section and a bunch of people who have no idea what they're talking about say if a mechanic says the job is going to take 2 hours to do and he gets it done in an hour, I'm getting ripped off. Those people need to watch this video
so you assume that prospective customers will lie on 1 question but suddenly he honest with 4? that's ridiculous. anyone who isn't brain dead will know what's going on.
Amazing amazing interview: Pain points, solutions, transformation = progression you are my new favorite podcaster mr Futur you bring so much value to me. I have been growing my braincells
I would be happy to pay what it would take me to do it at my current pay rate. Aka I am happy to pay a dry waller $90 for 30 minutes because I know it will take me 3 hours.
Same reason why people limit themselves at jobs that pay hourly, and/or require you to stay all 8 hours. If you get your work done quickly, you aren't rewarded for it these days, so people have no incentive to do better work
The first picture you´re showing isn't Rodchenko. its actually Vladimir Mayakovsky, russian poet that worked with Rodchenko setting up the text for their publicity campaigns.
Reminds me of this tale about Pablo Picasso:👇 Picasso is sketching at a park. A woman walks by, recognizes him, and begs for her portrait. Somehow, he agrees. A few minutes later, he hands her the sketch. She is elated, excited about how wonderfully it captures the very essence of her character, what beautiful work it is, and asks how much she owes him. “5000 francs, madam,” says Picasso. The woman is incredulous, outraged, and asks how that’s even possible given it only took him 5 minutes. Picasso looks up and, without missing a beat, says: “No, madam, it took me my whole life.”
Reminds me of the fact that you should never ever demonstrate that you’re good at computers if you’re job isn’t in IT, they’ll mill you for it and they won’t pay you extra.
It is a big mistake to charge by the hour if you are a service provider, that is a good idea only if you are not good at what you do or a lazy MF, I can produce something very fast and very well done, so why in hell I will charge by rhe hour, I charge for what I know and for how good I am at what I do. Example, I charge you 5 dollars for the paper, 2 dollars for the ink and 2,000 for my knowledge, period.
This is just like being a flat rate mechanic. I’ll be punished for having all the knowledge, experience, and the tools I’ve purchased with the money I made for someone to think it’s not worth it. Well, when you want it done right the first time and if it’s a suspension/brake job, my ass is on the line if something happens to that person. You won’t bail me out of jail if I mess up.
Not really. It is only one question in the vetting process to assess what quality product you are getting for your money. If I'm getting a house built I don't just look at the hourly rate for the proposed project.
Stupid fallacy showing entitlement. You always charge per hour but decide your own hourly rate. It's the fairest for both sides. If you do something really quick, than it isn't really complicated and you wouldn't need 15 years experience to know how to do it to justify high payment for short time work. On the other hand, when it's something really complicated and you need much longer than you predicted, you'll get the appropriate compensation for your time investment. Because in the end, i am not paying you for your experience, i'm paying you for a certain task and i don't care how long it took you to get good enough for said certain task.
