Beautiful Sunday morning to you Mrs. Queen and your comment would be one of my blessing for the day. "Growing Out The Box" is not just about gardening, it's more about being open to seeing things in a different way. When you say "New information to you" we all share in the harvest. 🙏
Thanks. Nothing like fresh harvested cabbage. My daughter cooked 2 last night. Delicious! 10 more to go. I’m learning so much from watching all of you.
You have been with me for my whole "2 Months" LOL... I so appreciate you all for taking time out of your day to see what I have uploaded. You make this a truly amazing experience and I am humbled. 🙏
Just remember, if you are storing for long term don't cut into the cabbage. It will lose most it's vitamin C and not last as long. It makes even more sense when you are growing your own cabbage. Nothing goes to waste.
You are always so kind with your comments. My Granddad use to say, “My blessings come from what I can do for others and not for what others can do for me”. I really feel blessed to be able to share most of the things I am just discovering myself. I learn from all of you and my question is always, “Is there another approach or another way to deliver the idea”. That’s Growing Out The Box and I am humbled.
I really enjoy your content. Best believe I will be trying this technique after my harvest…. Your music choices and the angles at which you film, chef’s kiss !
Thank you very much and even more so for recognizing the editing. My 2nd season gardening and still learning so I tend to lean on the few editing skills to make the content a bit interesting. Thanks for the encouragement.
I've got to share this with my mom. She loves cabbage, but always has to run to the store for a fresh one every time she wants one. Thanks for sharing 👍😊
Nothing like fresh veggies from the garden but yeah. She can purchase a few and not have to worry about them going bad for at least a month or 2. Give her a hug from me with my Al Green blasting in the garden.
I call it Sunday morning blessings. My Grandad use to store his like this. Just dusting off the memory because I didn't see any videos on long term storage. Thanks as always for you support.
It's funny. I'm looking at the smile on your profile picture and I can imagine hearing your voice in the comment. The emoji helps also. lol. Your thoughts are appreciated. Oh, I almost forgot..... I hope you are subscribed.
Think about it?…. People take cabbage from table scraps that have been sitting on the grocery store shelves, place them in water and it grows from weeks out of its normal growing habitat. We are putting it back in a cold environment, the wet paper towel is the water source and the crisper along with the perforated bag gives it fresh air circulation and a continuous water source from condensation. The cabbage is actually still living. We have given it a life line. I’m sure it can be done with most brassicas. 🤓
Something my Grandpa use to do. I harvested some of my cabbage and I know we can't eat them all fast enough. Our elders had so much information. I'm glad I was my Grandpa's shadow back then. Beautiful Sunday Morning. 🙏
I'm always trying to bring something interesting along with so camera work. I really appreciate you stopping by. I saw you in the live this morning. Let's stay connected.
Just planted 12 more cabbage so storage is a must! Looks like we may be clear from the extreme cold after tonight. Eggplants going outside tomorrow so I have my fingers crossed. Thanks for watching.
I was a Grandpa's shadow growing up. lol, Can;t say that I knew what he was doing but I was always watching. I'm just dusting some of the ideas off and researching the "Why" and this is what I'm coming up with. Thanks for giving the channel a chance.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to watch. Question: Do collards taste or texture change when they start bolting? This is my second season gardening so I’m still learning.
WOOW ! Fantastic , Fabulous, {Suberb and Awesome Divine Video }🌠🌠🌠[[ Absolutely Beautiful Presentation and nice Sharing]] 🌈🌈🌈 Stay blessed and Stay Connected 💫💫 Have a Wonderful day ✨✨🏵️🏵️lk 👍
I always cut the stalks off longer to be able to wrap the rubber ban around. Thanks for watching. I really do appreciate it. I was in your live yesterday. Great start. 👍🏽
Been waiting a year to be able to try this 😂just harvested 4 cabbage heads and followed this technique 😊I am eating the leaves tonight in a stir fry. The purple cabbage is taking it’s sweet time to wrap but waiting patiently 🎉
It absolutely does! When storing the cabbage long term just don't cut into it. Once you cut into it - it will lose most it's vitamin C and reduce the shelf life.
Thank you Lisa for leaving a comment. That really helps for the video to be shared to others. I hope you come back soon. Better yet, I hope you’ve subscribed and clicked the notification 🔔. 🫣
This is the first of dozens of videos I've watched that actually makes sense. Cudos to you! I guess you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. Not being contradictory but, we have 3 cabbages left to harvest. None of them will fit in the crisper drawer or a gal sized zip lock bag. Now what? "Think outside the box" maybe. Possible solutions. 1) harvest cabbage at smaller size. Maybe. 2) Harvest, clean, and wrap the root stem, then put in fridge. Within 1-2 weeks peel of outer leaves for some cabbage rolls, or cole slaw, whatever. Now it may fit and follow your process at that time. This would allow less waste and staggering harvesting, extending the use of your cabbage even further. One rule in business is, never flat out disagree with a new procedure/policy without being prepared to offer alternatives. I will say your garden is one of most aesthetically pleasing I've seen. For a "newbie" it's obvious you've put in the time. We're retired, and it's taken use 7 years to get it to where it's workable, and productive today. TYFS
lol…. My channel is called “Growing Out The Box” not just because I have raised beds. To your point. It’s also about having an open mind in doing things different. I have a family of 4 so succession planting 45 day cabbage is how I grow them for all the reasons you mentioned. I actually enjoyed your commentary. I watch lots of gardeners and I try to center my content not so much around the way they grow but around what I personally feel is missing. I’ve only had my channel for a few months and that approach I believe is contributing to the channel’s growth. Also, presentation. There are far more women gardeners than men so my intent is to be aesthetically inspiring as well as informative and if you look at any of my videos you’ll see that I reply to everyone with more than a thank you. Not sure how long I can do that as the channel grows but it is my intent. With that said, I hope you have found my content more useful than not and decided to not just subscribe but click the notification bell. I’m still growing and I’m sure I could learn a thing or 2 from you as well. Be blessed
Much respect to teachers. I definitely don’t qualify. I just enjoy sharing what I do in the garden. I learn by the questions asked and honored that one would ask me 🥹
Now that just makes my day. Thank you so much. Kind words cost us nothing yet they can sometimes change another’s life. 🙏🏽 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0CNc3-uro20.html
@@growingoutthebox I'm happy to know this because my thought's are nature bound. You are on a good and strong road Brother, Please stay on it, it will save your life..... Blessings to you and yours!
@@jamesfrankland4436 I absolutely agree! If I’ve learned nothing over the past 2 years of Covid. “How unprepared I was”…. I’m working on that. Be blessed.
Yeah…. We love some cabbage 🥬 over here too. I started doing this because I grow my cabbage and like to eat it fresh. I hope you hit that notification bell 🛎️
You can use this same method to preserve ur parsley & cilantro. Moisten the paper towel, roll the parsley in it, then put in plastic bag, but leave bag open if there are no holes in the bag. Great video!
I know y’all are from the south. What part? My daddy’s parents were all from Alabama. His mother and his father had 11 brothers and sisters besides them each. And it’s kind of funny ‘cause I came across your video and I was just preparing some cabbage. I like to put it in a container with some vinegar and sometimes something other than just vinegar, salt and pepper. Anyways, let it sit for two or three days and then I woof it down. I was born in Texas myself. California, basically Santa Barbara, sucks when it comes to southern food. But you can still find cabbage and greens but cabbage is always there. I love cabbage, I love greens. The ‘Glory’ canned stuff is OK in a pinch. Y’all have a nice day. Thank you for your time.
Thank you. I subbed to you a few months back when I had like 100 subs. Thanks for all the support and I will be dropping in on you as well. Be blessed.
Thank you. I had to figure out what to do with all the cabbage harvested at once. I suppose I didn’t learn because I have over 20 red acre cabbage growing and yet to plant the early cabbage. They mature at different times. The garden has expanded. Looking forward to the season.
I wet my paper towels with Vodka and put on bottom for cabbage and lettuce, it works better and if I cut some off a batch I rub that area with a wet Vodka towel and put back in bag, keeps for quite a while!
As I get closer to having the footprint of the garden where I want it I really want to get into canning. But yes, I have 2 freezers full of the things I grow. I started growing because of Covid. I promised myself that I would never be in a position where I don't know where or how I would provide food for my family. It let me know just how unprepared I really was. To much is given much is required. A lot of people turn to me when things go wrong. I fix things! It may not be the orthodox way of doing it but I make things work. This garden turned out not only to be a fix for 2020.... For the first time I came to terms with needing to fix myself. That's why I call this channel, "Growing Out The Box". In building the people around me to believe in no limits I had created a ceiling for myself. Humility.... "To much is given, much is required".
