Aup Billy i love the channel mate! last month i went to whitby for my first cod and the first day on boat i didnt do too well. at night i watched this then second day i managed 5 cod and two haddock using lug tipped with muscle uptiding :) Thank you.
Just love your ethos man! Bushcraft with anything & making good of whatever is lying around! I've just had to buy a k of mussels from the supermarket 😮 I've searched miles of beach, rocks, under two piers & not a single mussel anywhere!! The fishing is really good so wouldn't say the water quality is shite, but can't get my head around that one. Anyway great demo fella. Quite new to sea fishing & am hauling!! Rays dogs Wighting Bass. Thought I'd open up my options with some mussels! Great channel 👍🦑
Subbed immediately, the prep makes it all more fun,now I know why i kept those bicycle spokes, found your channel after watching a youtuber make a simple lugworm pump from copper pipe and brass t joint, thanks for sharing your genius molecules!
Another brilliant vid billy, just found ur channel a few days ago and I’m working my way through all ur old vids, keep up the great work billy tight lines 🤘🤘🤘🤘🎣🎣🎣
I put them in a colander, boil a kettle and let it cool a bit for 5 minutes or so, and pour it over them. Part opens them but still leaves them raw. Thats how ive prepped them lots of times now.
Mussels great up north. Not so good down south. I persevered with them for years in the winter. But in Bristol channel they blew out for cod.... sadly.
Great stuff Billy! I've used fresh mussels on the beach - a good and totally natural bait. I'm going to try the cooked ones from Asda -just the plain ones - no garlic butter 😅😅😅. Cheap too! Tried it once so far caught a crab but it took it in preference to the mackerel on the other hook. Watch this space 😅😅😅
Hiya Billy - needed a 'Billy Fix' so catching up on a few remaining older vids. Typed out a reply with a link & RU-vid wiped it so here goes again! This is interesting. As others have said, I was going to try the Fox Arma mesh tube thingy, but thought sure I can make something up from about 25mm pipe & cheap cotton finger bandage. Not tried it yet - need to go foraging. With the finger bandage jobbie, you could stuff anything in there - Mussels, Limpets, Razorfish, Mackerel chunks etc., and tie it off into 25mm 'bait sausages' before freezing. Guys have also said that the finger bandage trick helps stop the Crabs trashing your baits so quick. Thoughts? Stay safe & well, tight lines, Dave. 🎣🎣👍👍
Hi bud it sounds like it will work to. For me, it's just more stuff to buy. But alot of fish heads use cart and I think it's just like that. If it gets you fishing. It's all good.👍
Great stuff, I know what you mean about the spinning haha, prawns do the same, mussel and lug cocktail deadly around here for codling... And coalie as mentioned. Soooo I'm off to make some lug, mussel and prawn sausages, probably best to label them or might end up on my dinner plate if I'm not around on a use up whatever in the freezer evening. 👍
OMG!!!! I JUST WANT TO EAT THEM MUSSELS!!! They look soooooo Yummy🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 great video, also could do the same, But Salt the Bait... would last a lot longer!! Just saying. Thank you for your time, Thumbs up, Plus subbed thanks Bud!!
3 years late but finally got around to using mussels for bait, what should i do if they are super watery when i open them? they are commercially harvested so get them from someone who works in a restraunt.
Hey Billy thanks for advice and video for the BF knot easy to tie and remember .I myself make the mussel kebab, but i pour boiling water over the mussel,so they just start opening 1-3 millimeters then i cool them down in cold water,i found it easyer to take the animals out of the shells and put them on a spear and wrap them with a lot of elastic, finger thick and 15-25 cm long,i pull out the spear before freezing. When fishing you Can Cut them in desired lenght, flaties 2-3 cm and cod 5-10 cm Its a very good bait for flounders and cod and best bait for wolffish.I had a 56cm flounder nearly 4 lbs on mussel bait Merry new year and tight lines
@@Billyfishing_watch give the Arma Mesh a go though, can use them almost straight from the shell, and make it so much less messy baiting them up. I use that, as i sometimes (when can get it) put a bit of edible crab cart in with it for an extra bit of scent👍
Never used muscles properly as a sea bait. only ever as a wrasse bait. Must actually give it ago. Id image they work better after a spell of rough weather. I always find razor works better then so wonder would it be the same with them.
Yeah man I use them for cod in the winter when bait is short, with herring, but you could use them for rays too, maybe cuckoo ray or painteds .thanks man 👍👍
@@robertnicholson8456 ha done same myself for razors on co down coast .very odd time u c.ldn.t collect em all .that many .but last time 2001 .think commercial boys wiped them out ..SHAME
@@Billyfishing_watch 93 / 5 000 Oversettelsesresultater I fish a lot from beaches here in Norway but use a lot of shrimp and mackerel never thought of mussels
Hi John, the make of pump is not important. The way it is set up is what you should focus on. Get a long pump with a diameter 35mm not the old fat short ones. They will give you a bad back. There are lots to choose from. Thanks Brother 👍😁👌
