BTW. I panicked. I was cleaning the two spring loaded sponge collectors and something came loose and the unit popped up at a weird angle. I knew I couldn't restart the printer until I fixed what I did. The video was of good enough quality I could see a little T shaped plastic clip that had come out of the white slot on the right side of the unit. I pushed down on the two sponge units backed off a little and was able to get it back into the slot. This video was priceless. My printer is printing like new now after cleaning.

That's really helpful thanks. I'll have a go as my prints since changing the maintenance cartridge and replacing the PK ink on my Epson 3880 are terribly smeared with black ink, now I think I know why and how to try to fix it.

For those asking "how do you remove the cover" it was suggested to view the instructions on the "Field Service Manual" for this printer. Upon finding and reviewing that info, the instructions are quite involved and it's probably more of a pain in the arse to remove the cover than try to clean it with cover on. Looks like you have to remove a lot of components. Not designed to be an easy removal.
@franknullet6530
@franknullet6530 2 года назад
For the 3880, yes. I'm in that process now and it's slow and involved, but necessary to access the print head. This link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sSQbhQbEvd8.html how to remove print head--helps but is a bit hasty, since it appears the object is not to fix the printer, but to cannibalize the printer for parts. Plus, my 3880 is not exactly like the one shown in the link. Good luck.

If the ink has seriously clogged the nozzles, when you slide the print head over the soaked tissue just leave it like that overnight. Then do it again next morning starting with a clean soaked tissue, and things should be a lot better.

Nice vid. I just use windex (glassex inEurope) with a little ammonium in it. Works exactly the same..
@Inkjetmall
@Inkjetmall 7 лет назад
be careful with ammonia based products, eventually they will interact with the copper which is present in Epson print head circuits. Not recommended also because of the drying speed of ammonia. Good for cleaning but potential is worrisome. We prefer slower drying cleaners and cleaners which act as solubizing agents.

Helpful video, thanks. In my case (Pro 3880) the auto feed has become very unreliable. Can hardly reach it. I suppose that removing the cover would give me better access? I'm dreading the prospect of cover removal. Are cleaning sheets worth trying? And why doesn't Epson sell their cleaning sheets in USA?

@@joncone I was able to follow the video and clean the printer. Thanks! The telltale smudging on the edges of the paper went away. I may have bungled the cleaning of the print heads, however, as I saw the Bounty paper towel was torn a bit and I fear it clogged the heads. The quick nozzle check looks fine but the long nozzle check/cleaning print shows the 3 blacks and cyan cleanly printed with no gaps; but no other colors are printed, and the cycle ends with an error on the console screen. (I use the printer for matte printing only). B&W prints look fine, but color prints look strangely flat. I'm wondering if I should do a complete flush then convert the 3880 to Piezography.

@joncone
@joncone 4 года назад
@@gdmcclintockIII dragging the head across can tear the bounty but it's doubtful that it would clog the heads by doing so... hopefully you have a clean capping and flush station as well as wiper blade and it's not residue being dragged across the head. No other colors printing is a bit of a worry, but I do not know the history of the printer. If you're on Epson carts are they past their prime? If on refill carts have they lost their prime (literally do they need to be primed?). You would need all the print heads to be in perfect condition to convert to Piezography - but we could configure a 6 black Piezography system for you if you only can recover 6 of the ink channels...

I tried cleaning a P800 using Piezoflush the same way, however all of my prints have a magenta cast on it now. Tried several heavy head cleanings and tried recleaning with window cleaner to see if there was leftover residue. No improvements. Do I just have to keep cleaning it?

Hello, I have this model of printer and since I bought it, its original inks were used up and I did not use it again. You want to put the continuous system on it and make it operational, what do you recommend I buy and do?, thanks
@Inkjetmall
@Inkjetmall 2 года назад
If you mean that this printer has been sitting for many years unused - then really you are at risk with the 3800 or 3880 because the ink selector unit tends to fail in the black channel as a result of prolonged sitting with pigment inks for years. The ink selector unit would need be replaced in that case. But if one of the black inks is still operational - then maybe possible to buy the entire flush kit for the 3800 (shop.inkjetmall.com/PiezoFlush-kit-for-Epson-Pro-3800.html) or the 3880 (shop.inkjetmall.com/PiezoFlush-kit-for-Epson-Pro-3880.html) and clear it out. If it will print perfectly pink nozzle checks at that point - then you invest in inks.

3880 pump cap position disturbed. I had ongoing clogged nozzles on my 3880 and after several cleaning cycles didn't help I watched the video & started to clean it - under the head, the head's path, the wiper blade and pump cap station (2 little foam pads) that drain ink. Problem is that I pushed down on them too much and since they're spring loaded, it popped up and I can't re-position it. I've googled and found everything but how to pop it back into position. Can anyone help please?

this is great, if she showed you how to get the lid off of your computer. I know you don't HAVE to, but you can't see anything of what she's talking about on your own computer, and with my big fingers, I cannot do what she's doing!! I can't even find the friggin' screws to take the top off my 3880. Just would be great if she gave that pertinent piece of info!

You can find out how to completely disassemble your printer by searching for the Epson 3880 Field Service Manual. It shows step by step how to disassemble and reassemble (which can be even trickier!)

I have a 7800 I have not used in almost 10 years, what are my chances?
@Inkjetmall
@Inkjetmall 2 года назад
Probably not good. Whatever ink that you left in it will have dried not only in the print head, but also the ink exchange unit, and ink lines. Not impossible - but a lot of work requiring a full flushing of those parts with PiezoFlush. This video is about preventative maintenance. Something you should do at least once a year. Your situation requires injection and will necessitate some disassembly.

Can anybody help ? Basic parts of my printer(Photo RX620) near the cartridge holder area, are quit the same with the printer on this video. My problem is that the material which is like sponge and it is in the channels where the print head moves back and forth (this channels lays below the print head when it moves. In 5:58 you took a long paper, moisten it and lay it on these channels with this, like sponge, material.), well this sponge has destroyed, like has melt and i want to replace it. Does anybody know where to find a replacement or to use something else (an other material) to replace it ??
@ericdorsey2262
@ericdorsey2262 4 года назад
that is the platten sponge, i dont think its replaceable. you can get creative and make your own with a razor blade and a fresh sponge material exactly the same height. a spray adhesive should hold it down. Jose Rodriguez talks about it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8CWxfxUqzjE.html
