Hello, I'm a person who runs a photo studio in Korea. I haven't solved the print error for a while, but I solved it after seeing the video you uploaded. Thanks a lot. Stay healthy and happy forever. ^__^
Thanks for taking the time to post this very educational video. My 9900 is spewing black tracks all over prints lately. I don't use it a lot and I'm sure that's why this is happening. I'll be doing a massive cleanup on it this week because I have a particular print with lots of white space that needs to be shipped.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! The deepest cleaning in service mode couldn't clear a bad magenta clog in my 9900. I found this video while looking for solutions, ordered the piezo flush, followed the instructions in this video, and the clog is now gone! I did have to run one regular cleaning after the piezo flush/paper towel/print head cleaning but now the nozzle check pattern is perfect and I'm currently printing up a bunch of photos for a show this weekend. Cheers!
Great video... It will help alot I order the cleaning product today. Can't wait to get it, my machine 9900 has never been cleaned I just started here working with it and the prints are coming out horrible.. Where would I get that wiper part from do you have a part number and company to order it from?
Very interesting video. I have been printing with a 7880 for 7 years and a 9900 for 3. I run approximately 100' of Luster rolled paper per month through each machine and have not had any print issues. Is this cleaning recommended if there are no issues? I am all for preventive maintenance, but this is the first I have heard of this type of cleaning. Thanks for any advice.
tough one to answer... we find most people end up with some issues - and you've been running really quite well - so my advise to you is do not do ANYTHING different. However, you print only lustre which is low lint. Most of our customers are printing on fine art papers which are archival matte surfaces and inherently linty! So keep on keeping on!!
Yes. It must have been. Took a year to answer :-) Still going strong here [knock on wood]. They are amazing machines. Can't imagine my business without them. Thanks for the reply.
Excellent video, thank you very much! I wanted to tell you about the problem I have: My Epson 9900 prints correctly all colors, except the black color that prints in a brown color. The Epson authorized service technician checked the printer through software and mechanically the printer; We changed all the black inks (matte black, Black, Ligh ligh black etc) that I always use original, but I still have the same problem. Could you please tell me what could be the cause and how I can solve it? Thank you very much
Hi, your video is very useful and done very well, my problem with the 7900 when starting up is the same as what you show in your video, performing the same reset procedure but immediately after the same error occurs again, can you suggest me what I have to do? grazie
I am using a 9890, the head has been replaced twice due to blocked nozzels on the Light Light Black channel, replacing the head is not an option this time, the machine is only about 4 years old, getting very frustrated again. Lots of banding in prints. Will this product work do you think?
Jon Cone Even the steps would be helpful. I work at an industrial sign shop. We’re pretty good with stuff like this, but either they say “tech install” or there just nothing. It seems fairly straightforward. I just want to make sure we can do it before bringing somebody in. By the way, thank you for the quick response. I really appreciate it.
@@AversaS2 have you downloaded the Epson Field Service Manual for your printer? It has step by step instructions with photos for every possible Epson field service. It's the manual that Epson repair persons use.
You can not flush one channel at a time using a utility. Flushing using the POWER CLEAN or the EPSON maintenance utility uses strong powerful suction to empty all ink lines. So this is what you should do if you are trying to clear a clog because printing out a single channel does not create any suction or strong forces. HOWEVER, if you wish to flush a single channel to remove the ink and replace with another you can do this with an independent ink channel printer driver like QuadTone RIP in its Calibration Mode if you alter it's inkseparation file to only include the color information for that channel you wish to change an ink out of. You will need read its documentation to understand how to do that, and the documentation is part of the downloads at QuadTone RIP. It is not intuitive.
I hope this the information this video shows will be helpful to us. Operating 9900 and P9000, we use only regular inks from Epson. I was wondering if this cleaner can be used for the machines.
Yes it can be used for the 9900, but Epson has removed nearly all customer service options on the USA (North American) versions of the P9000. Inkjetmall is working on a workaround to this. You can subscribe to our newsletter here: eepurl.com/bUcrmD
It could be any number of things. If the cartridge is defective, if it is a 3rd party cartridge that is unprimed, if there is a pressurization issue with the cartridge, if the damper inside the ink selector unit has been plugged with pigment, if the ink being printed is from a very outdated cartridge, if pigment has settled into the area behind the print channel in between the print head and the ink selector unit, if there is a plug in the ink channel itself in the print head, if the channel is electrically dead...and possibly even other reasons...
lol just cleaned my 9900 following this video. I got piezoflush on my hands, now my hands are pink. How do I get it off? Soap doesn't work and mineral spirits don't work either. What should I do?
Greta Video - will give it a try - Is there any info on converting to a Pizography Printer ( Spelling ?) that she mentions at the end of the video - Thank you
Thanks for the video. I used the instructions on my 7900 and I was able to recover two nozzles. I still have one that in no way I could recover. I want to try your suggestion of flushing the nozzle. But I have little idea how to do it for that remaining nozzle. An advice in this respect is much appreciated. Thanks again.
If the clog is not on the surface of the print head it could be inside the ink channel, or between the ink selector unit and the ink channel, or inside of the ink selector unit itself including a damper/filter. In this case, PiezoFlush is introduced via the very strong suction of the INITIAL FILL procedure: shop.inkjetmall.com/how-to-use-piezoflush
@@Inkjetmall Thank you so much for the prompt response. I actually figured it out upon watching more closely how you did it in another youtube video. And by the way I noticed that my nozzle check on 7900 prints 10 color pattern not 11. Seems like the fifth (from left) spot prints mk or pk depending on printer setting. Can you please confirm? thanks again.
what kind of syringe is that, how do i cal it ? so i can search it on amazon, and what type of cleaning solution should i use to clean the heads and flush?
Hello, I was cleaning the print head using the papertowel method and it looks like i got a little piece of the papertowel snagged and stuck under the print head. What do you recommend for removing the debris? The print test on paper are getting worse and i believe it's due to some lint/piece of papertowel stuck under the print head. Thank you.
Just repeat the operation and when you move the print head back and forth it should come off. But, we really recommend the use of the Bounty towel as it is soft and absorbent and we do not have this type of issue with it tearing like you did.
Thanks for the video! Will be buying supplies off your website. Any idea why a 9890 would have a single horizontal band at the top of every print about an eighth of an inch in but print the images perfectly with showing proper head alinement and no clogged nozzles? Printing through cs6 on windows.
+Matt Culberson I know that you posted this 9 months ago but I'm having the same problem with my 7890. Did you determine the issue and if so, how did you fix it? Thanks, really appreciate your help.
+Enrique Molina at first i would print half inch cream color at beginning of print and print the image at highest resolution then i went on Craigslist and bought a 9800 that did not have the defected head the 9890 serise has. I still have the 9890 and for around $460 there is a cleaning solution called piezoflush or somthing like that that may or may not revive the printer. I have been using epson stylus pros for 9 years and the 9890 going out on me and many more people right after the warranty (13 months) is crap. I almost just gave up on epson it ticked me off so much. But the kit will flush the heads without damaging the head like a power clean in service mode so i will give it a shot but i do clean my other printer just like in the video and never have to do cleaning though i run the almost everyday. Hope that helps.
+Matt Culberson Enrique Molina, I have some clogged nozzles for the first time in the year since I bought the 7890. I'm not sure if I should try this method - first I want to see if the folks who sold it to me have anything to say. I was printing for 6 months straight - then stopped for 2 months and left the machine with just a humidifier always going... but wham, it happened. I'm so disappointed -- wondering if you tried it Enrique? and what happened. thanks.
By chance do you (or any other posters) have a video or written guide for removing/replacing the printhead from an Epson Stylus Pro 7880 ? I brought my printer with me when moving to a distant country and am now thousands of miles away from a an Epson Service Depot that handles their wide format printers. I have the new head, just don't have a step by step guide to replacing the old one with the new one. Any suggestions or links greatly appreciated.
sorry but we do not. I suggest you look for the "Field Service Manual" for the Epson 7880. Google for it. It has step by step including photographic illustrations.
You will need to source the Epson Service Adjustment software. It runs only on PC. Your carts will need to be at least 30% full. Click on INK CHARGE and within 8 minutes it will have replaced all of the air or and ink in your lines with fresh ink from the cartridges.
You do not need to fill the entire cartridge, but you do need enough volume for the cartridge to operate well. We think about 70ml is minimum in allowing you to run at least two charges and not introduce any air into the printer. The chip of a 9900 cartridge is not actually connected to the ink volume. If reset it assumes the cartridge is full. So filling it less than full means you need keep track of the ink volume and not allow air into the printer.
Excellent video (that I only just discovered) - clear and concise. Am I right to assume that the same methodology would work with an Epson 4900? Cheers.
sorry no we do not! Some have somehow found a way to replace them with very long needle nose pliers, others by some type of masking tape on a long stick, and others just bit the bullet and pull the ink bays...
Hi, Great video. Thank you for sharing it. I have an Epson 9900, and the orange nozzle is completely clogged. I will try PiezoFlush filled cartridge as you suggested. Should I do it while the machine is on? Some people suggest running 9900 adjustment program for unclogging. Do you know if it would work? All the best
The only way to remedy an internal clog - is via the INITIAL INK CHARGE. A PiezoFlush filled cartridge can be inserted in the affected channels. BUT, the INITIAL INK CHARGE will drain inks from all of the ink positions. There is nothing you can do to avoid that. To run dozens and dozens of cleaning cycles on just the affected channel will burn that channel out. ONLY the INITIAL INK CHARGE uses just suction. The other cleaning cycles stimulate the head and more than just a few will burn it out if it has air in it. If you can not afford to waste ink in order to save a channel - you might consider converting the printer to Piezography Black and White which requires only between 6 and 9 working channels depending upon what type of Piezography system you choose. Our software can map out the bad channels - and you will be able to print much higher quality black and white than you can with Epson inks. piezography.com/ Contact us at shop.inkjetmall.com and we can put together a custom system for you. The reality is if you have been running dozens of clean cycles to clear the orange - you may have delaminated that channel due to heat. But only the INITIAL INK CHARGE is safe. It takes one to bring PiezoFlush to the head. Then you shut the printer down for 2-4 days to allow it to work. Then you repeat the INITIAL INK CHARGE to pull out the agglomerated pigment. Then you run your first nozzle check... But, PiezoFlush has fixed a ton or printers!
@@Inkjetmall Thank you for the quick reply. I ran around ten cleaning cycles, and I did two twin color cleans in total in a month. I hope I didn't damage the orange channel. I am an artist, I bought this machine to print my artwork. I use Epson cartridges, some recently bought, and they are super expensive here in Europe. Turning the machine to Piezography Black and White is last resort for me, but I might have to do it. Do you know how much ink an initial ink charge wastes? Trying to calculate the cost of initial charge.. And do you whip PiezoFlush to Belgium? Thank you again.
@@fahirekurt5895 it will be a bit more than 20ml per ink channel. Taos Photographic is our EU authorized distributor: taosphoto.fr/ I think that you probably did not burn out the orange channel with that effort.
Hello Fahire, thanks for writing this all out. Im in the same position as you, the only difference is its VM not Orange. Did you ever get it running smooth again?
Hello, thanks for this video! I am running a 9900 and the VM and VLM are coming up more than 50% clogged when running test prints. I have tried a few troubleshooting options and the VLM seems to be progressing. I can not get the VM to improve, what should I do for the piezo flush?
Depends on the clog pattern... send a picture of the clogged nozzle test to help@inkjetmall.com and an email explaining what you have attempted and we can advise you whether PiezoFlush can work for you.
Hello, I've sent out a couple emails with a follow up after purchasing the products necessary to do a proper ink-head flushing, unfortunately still no response on your end. Whats the deal?
Can you guys help me? I haven an epson stylus pro 7700. bought it from two years stand still. Used initial fill with cleaning catridiges. But I have no color flow at all...
My Epson 7890 cleaning cycle fails and ask to retry. It fails if press I select yes again. Did nozzle check and seems the yellow is not working yet I just replaced with a new cartridge. No yellow is printing. All other colors are fine. Could this be the cartridge itself or clogged nozzle. It was working fine before the changed cartridge. Now every 10 seconds it is making a noise as to whirring noise. Turned it off and still makes noise. What could it be?
actual paper jams are usually associated with something in the path of the paper... did you leave any of the paper towel in there? But if the paper is not actually getting jammed, and you are getting that error you may have a dirty media sensor.
Why can you not remove the flushing box screen completely and soak it in cleaning fluid, rather than the more tedious method of squirting fluid via syringe on it (at such an angle) and then dabbing it over and over with a paper towel? can this screen not be easily (or non-destructively) removed?
depends if this is just a sudden change in a printer that you have been printing with all along or you are trying to resurrect one that has been sitting a long time, or if you just changed black ink modes after a very long time of not using that black. What does your nozzle check look like? If it has a few missing nozzles you can probably recover. But if it has swaths of areas missing it is probably a fatal head delamination. If you had not changed black ink modes in a very long time then your black ink exchanger is probably plugged and needing replacement, but you may still be able to use the black ink mode you had been using. If just starting up a printer over a long time of rest you should flush it out and let the flush rest in it for a couple days before putting inks back.. It all depends!
I wouldn't know. I just got it used from someone. The photo black is completely out so I am waiting for the shipment. I am guessing I should try purging/cleaning powerful a couple of times and see if it makes a difference first. 2nd would be to take out the printhead and soak it with 70% alcohol. (Do you have instructions on printhead removal?) If that still does not work then I need a new printhead. What do you think? @@Inkjetmall
@@TomChau-q4y I would never use alcohol on a print head unless I wanted to rapidly dry it out. You need the absolute opposite. Even distilled water would be a more efficient and save solvent to use than alcohol. Alcohol and ammonium should not be used to clear print heads. They are more an effective solution to preserving a perfectly working print head by first flushing with a wetting agent and then finishing up to remove the wetting agent by a drying agent. If instead there is a clog only something with a sufficient wetting agent should be used. This is what PiezoFlush is about. You can find and purchase the field service manual for your printer model on the 2manuals website.
Hi and thanks for making this video. I have a little issue with my Epson SP 7700. The nozzles all seem to fire correctly, however the very last box on the nozzle check (i.e. ) always prints out with a little wobbly notch. Will this kind of cleaning help? Thanks
Larry Nielsen they actually have print heads that are physically identical to and replaceable with heads from the 7890/9890 and 7900/9900 printers. Cleaning them is similar although menus may be different. What is remarkably different is the new printers in USA are locked by Epson against the use of refillable carts. So you can not use PiezoFlush internally.
@@Inkjetmall Do you know how to release the print head on the P9000? I just want to have it sit on a cloth soaked with the flush but cant figure out how to manually move the print head on this one. Thanks!
@@drhoads08 yes there are two ways. Turn the printer on and when the head moves out of position - pull the plug. The second way is to remove the side panel so that you can manually rotate the white gear that moves the print head. The first is easier - but if you have the printer apart you can do the second method.
My black nozzle just doesn't work even after trying all this, so how exactly can I convert the printer over to using different channels as you say at the end of the video?
The black channel prints both the MK and PK - so I assume you have lost the use of both. If not and you can only print one of the MK or PK - then your stoppage is in the black ink exchanger in the ink selector unit attached to the print head. In any event, you now only have 9 of your 10 ink channels working. You can convert the printer to the Piezography Black and White ink system. To do this you would install the 9 ink version of Piezography Pro inks in your printer. You would use the Piezography Professional Toolkit to map out the black channel and install the black inks into the orange and green channels. You can learn about Piezography here: piezography.com/
@@Inkjetmall Thanks for responding so quickly. Before I purchase your kit... here is exactly my issue, only 30 secs long, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-X1JUQ4ZYAVI.html
Hi! I have a 9900 that is about 5 years old - I've suddenly found PK & MK are totally blank upon doing a nozzle check, after regular, even heavy use. Does this sound characteristic of a failed head? Epson prices the repair at around $2400 - just trying to figure out if its worth getting a technician out to just tell me its the head, or perhaps it could be another part that is priced cheaper. Any help appreciated!
It may be only the black ink exchanger. Both PK & MK share the same print head channel but the inks are switched in the ink exchanger. The ink exchanger sits on top of the print head and contains all the damper filters as well. You can buy a new one from Compass Micro (Epson customer parts depot). Get the Epson Field Service Manual for the 9900 (search the internet for it) as it has step by step instructions on how to replace it.

Hello I have the Epson Stylus Pro 9600 but old from my father and I do not know how to use it and it completed 1 year never worked and in an abandoned place I tried to try it I tried to print it but I did not find it between the printer and tried to search for it ID disk I did not find the box and what solution Can I find who can help me?
No, but you can try restarting the printer. If that doesn't work, power ON the printer in Self Testing Mode. This is done by pressing and holding OK, Down, and Right while pressing the Power button.Do not release the Down, Right, and OK buttons until the printer has powered ON completely. This normally clears this error.
We've not heard of that before. Clean cycles are a function selected in the LCD panel on your printer or using the Epson printer utility software, but can not be changed by cleaning the printer manually. If your printer starts up normally - and you have the EPSON LCD panel and select it to perform a cleaning, usually only a full maintenance box will prevent that.
@@Inkjetmall I got a message telling me to change the maintenance box (it was almost full). I changed it and still get the same message after a few minutes of the printer trying to clean the print head.
@@bebechat14it is probably related. Perhaps turning on and off the printer will remedy. Otherwise it may require being reset and there is a tool out there for the 7900. An Epson Adjustment Utility available from 2manuals dot com. There may be a way to reset the printer if it can not figure out it has a new maintenance tank. But this is a little beyond our ability to trouble shoot what is exactly happening with your particular situation.
Probably not. This is preventative maintenance. If your cyan channel is completely blocked it would more likely be a result of an internal clog rather than a surface clog. You can put PiezoFlush inside of a refillable cartridge and charge the printer with flush fluid, let it sit for 24-48 hours, and then repeat the charge to pull out the dissolved agglomerations of pigment. shop.inkjetmall.com/Inkjet-Ink?search=&attrib=40-116
Matthew Platz according to Epson all service should be done by service tech. Same with cars, electronics and bicycles. But do what service you’re comfortable with. Epson provides parts for its customers who prefer to do their own. The consumer parts Depot is Compass Micro and they’re online.
The 7890 and P6000 are actually the same print head. Just the manifold behind the print head is different. So performing a preventative maintenance like this on the P6000 is very similar to this video.
Except never use paper towel, use thin microfiber cloth for glasses etc. Discard after use. Else you will cause more harm than good if your printer is good to begin with.
Don't wait until you have trouble! It's something you should do at least every six months to stave off trouble with EPSON ink. And if you use DTF / DTG you should do it at the end of each week.
This is a really good printer ru-vid.comUgkxciSwynMJ7PnUvvx11rewiu-yFBkZTl53 . The reason I gave 4 stars for tech support (which I don't think this would classify as tech support) is because once you turn the printer on, it does require a little bit of start up time which may bother some who are in a hurry to quickly print something. To offset that though the printer prints very quickly. I would definitely purchase this printer again.
