I have watched most if these on the Baofeng. You are concise and accurate and you announce your call on repeaters because you do have a call and you are operating legally. Although the radio has several compromises, for the price what more needs to be said? Nice job and let’s hear more from you. W

You went through everything quite well. Only one thing that would make this vid really top notch and that is: Show the entire keyboard as you are using it. It would be good to see what key you hit when the HT said "confirm". Try this, put the camera [phone or whatever you're using] on a tripod then fashion some sort of hand rest or marker [like some tape]. That way you'll stay in focus, see the whole face of the HT, that way we, the unwashed, will see every key you hit. Just sayin'.

When I set the offset it says “confirm” but when I exit the menu and go back to offset it shows zeroes … it won’t take the offset. So I have to use “split” instead and just program an explicit transmit frequency.

Very informative. Please could you elaborate on saving the input /output frequency to memory channels. 🍻

I believe you can do it by setting frequency, opening menu, and there would be options to save/delete frequencies from memory somewhere. But doing it in chirp on pc is much easier

I have the same radio. I am trying to program 444.1785. How do you program in a five at the end and not a zero? Thanks

I took a look on my Baofeng and can't really find a setting. I tried changing increment of frequency every time the up/down buttons are pushed, but it won't let me go down to 0.5 kHz. Other than that, there doesn't seem to be a setting in the menu. That is annoying because the Baofeng will sometimes let you do these exact frequencies, but you can't really control when it decides to do it. Your best bet it probably to get a programing cable and the software would likely allow you to put in 444.1785.

I need an affordable radio to transmit on 41.95000. My job requires that I communicate in this freq and everyone I know uses a motorola xts radio. I don't want to spend that amount for a radio. Any cheaper options?
@RomeoCatComputers

I'm not really sure because of that odd frequency. You shouldn't get any old radio that can transmit on 41.95, as it would need to comply with the FCC. Seeing that the Motorola XTS series seems to be digital, you probably can't get any old analogue radio. My best bet would be to just get whatever your friends have.

I bought this radio as a work radio to sink with all the radios they supply our management/maintenance and security teams at Walmart because the radios they supply us with are WAY too bulky and heavy to carry around all day...im not interested in using this radio EVER outside of my job at Walmart so all the licensed HAM peeps dont worry its STRICTLY for indoor Walmart use lol... it came default set to VHF and it cuts out CONSTANTLY... from what i understand UHF is better for indoor use but i have NO idea if UHF is compatible with the frequency/channel (or whatever) that we use at Walmart and i cant find out kuz it wont allow me to change to UHF without a computer which i dnt have :( every time i use the keypad to change bands and CONFIRM and EXIT ... once i return to menu 33 its back in VHF mode:( im curious .... if im forced to use VHF indoors and i cant use UHF for whatever reason..then can i improve the radios indoor function by just getting a better antenna ??? or will it ALWAYS be crappy reception because im using VHF indoors instead of UHF ??? P.S. I AM AN IDIOT WITH TECH SO PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SCHOOL ME OR YELL AT ME hahaha :) as long as you teach me something im down fer whatever responses i can get lol .... peace :)

I'm sorry to say, but using Baofengs for business or on business bands is illegal. Baofengs are registered by the FCC under part 97, the part for amateur radios. If they were to be used on MURS/FRS/GMRS, they would have to be registered under part 90. They would also have to comply to rules for MURS usage. There are some features the Baofeng has that go against MURS rules such as having a removable antenna and having adjustable power and bandwidth settings, among others. I would suggest you either go back to using your old work radio or getting a radio that is made for this use. If you do wish to continue using your Baofeng for this, then I would suggest setting power to low (menu option 2) and bandwidth to narrow (menu option 5). As for your problem with the frequencies, there are three kinds of services you would need to worry about, MURS, FRS, and GMRS. MURS is VHF and has 5 channels. Walmart typically uses MURS, so this is probably the one you are dealing with. FRS and GMRS are UHF and have 22 channels. Both share the same channels, but GMRS requires a license and gives you more flexibility and channels. The frequencies for the channels on all of these services can be found online. Baofengs are compatible with these services and can transmit and receive on these frequencies, but like I said earlier, it is not legal. If you're stuck on VHF you can (in frequency mode) press the small 'Band' button to switch between UHF and VHF. Also, if in frequency mode, you can use the key pad to directly type in the frequency for any channel in either U/V.

@@RomeoCatComputers thx fer the reply brthr :) so in your experience have u come across any radios on the market that are small in size like the baofeng but are registered under part 90 ? im clueless about any of this stuff :( i jst bought the uv 5r kuz it was so small and easy to cary all day and MULTIPLE people at my store carry them so i got the same kind they had (baofeng)....... should i be looking for a vhf (only) radio instead of the dual band ? i was told that vhf was used for outdoor usage and uhf was better for indoors as it goes thru walls and such, .... so why the hell would businesses like Walmart use vhf radios ? i get it if u need a HAM license to use GMRS but why wouldnt they use FRS on a uhf radio ? anyway i was also still curious about the antenna , if i get a high gain antenna will this help with indoor vhf reception ? or if i were to buy an 8w radio instead of the 5w i have would that make any difference ? Any way thanx again :)

As for a radio you could try, this might do: www.amazon.com/Retevis-Handheld-Waterproof-Rechargeable-Portable/dp/B08CKG9MTN/ref=sr_1_12?dchild=1&keywords=murs+radio&qid=1614735664&sr=8-12 This radio has five channels, because MURS has five channels. Since MURS is only VHF, then you would only need a VHF radio, one specifically designed for MURS. You will probably have to ask management which channels your Walmart uses. In your case you are using VHF. VHF tends to travel a lot better than UHF, but UHF is better at passing through obstructions. But if you are only operating in Walmart, either one would do. It tends to be a bigger difference when you are going longer distances. Now Walmart isn't a big campus area, but it is still a large building. If you are trying to talk to someone in the opposite corner of the building, you may have weaker signal. Interference from devices, such as computers and other machinery, may weaken or mess up your signal. The difference between five and eight watts on a handheld is very unnoticeable, however either one is overkill for inside a Walmart. Because of how MURS is, radios have to be operating at a low power anyway. MURS radios are already set to this specific power (I think it's like two watts or something). Getting a higher gain antenna wouldn't make much of a difference in your case, but again with MURS, it has restrictions; you have to use the built in hard-wired antenna that comes with a MURS radio. That's one of the reasons why using Baofengs for this is illegal (they have removable antennas). Also, you don't need a HAM license for GMRS. GMRS has its own license. GMRS uses the same channels as FRS, but having a GMRS license lets you do higher power and gives more fixability with different radios.

I would recommend using repeater book. It is an online repeater directory that is always being updated and will show pretty much every repeater in the U.S. www.repeaterbook.com/repeaters/index.php?state_id=none this link will take you to a U.S. map where you can select New York state, then find your town.
