I found a MIB (Mint in Box) baofeng UV-5RPlus+ and I figured I'd put it through it spaces.

We use the earpiece while hunting so that we can whisper into the radio and not disturb our prey.

Bought the same one 3 years ago when I first became interested in ham radio. Never used it for more than receive till this last Wednesday to check into my clubs net. Worked great! Been using my ft5 and qrz-1, kinda forgot about the poor little baofeng. Our repeater is about 30 miles away from me through a windy canyon so have to use some antenna angle magic to hit it but it got the job done.

Red has the longest wavelength so this must be the Top Band of Baofengs.

I only have 2 hts. The FT5DR which I love for APRS and having am and fm and short wave and UV5R for it’s simplicity and ability to be unlocked for marine VHS etc. at the end of the day it a tool to get you on the air and it just works

Steve, Try to use a diamond or signal stick antenna with this test. You tell them to get a better antenna so let them see it work with one.

Hey, I have one of those... I use it for receive only. I have a Baofeng GT-5R and an Alinco DJ-VX50 that I use to monitor and occasionally chat on local repeaters. The Baofengs are easy to program on Chirp, but difficult on the fly. The Alinco is very easily programmed on the fly. Those earpieces... never used 'em. On another note... I'm so happy to see the existence of small test gear like the nano VNA and TinySA. Back when I was really active OTA, testing equipment was more expensive and much larger! 73

It would be nice if these used off the shelf AA batteries. In some devices that use 3 AA I have been using 2 dummy AA cells and 1 lithium AA cell. The voltage range matches exactly with NICD and NIMH. 3.0V-4.2V

I've certainly had $50 worth of fun with mine. Look for the ultra model because you can sweep the 3rd harmonich without changing ports: amzn.to/3uWd4hU a little more expensive, but less work each use.

I did forget it! The Super Elastic Signal Stick comes from signalstuff.com - I can not find a current listing for the SW-102 from surecom that includes the ground plate.

I don't use the earpiece with the baofeng. I cut off the earpiece and convert it to a microphone for my elecraft KX2. You can do the same mod for any transceiver that uses a passive microphone like the KX2, KX3 or trusdx

I didn't explain it in this video, but the -16.03 comes from the next requirement in the FCC ruling of "any harmonic must also be less than 25uW". I have a video planned for explaining this

Hello. I have an old anytone handheld radio and it works on the vhf band. I don't know what i press, but the range is now shortened from 150,000 to 174,000, instead of 136,000. Does anyone know what is the problem?

I did once use that headphone deal to create a cable for my ear pro. Really I just cut off the earphone and attached the typical TRS 3.5mm. I wouldnt recommend it. Would be fine if they just saved the 50 cents it cost to add it.

The RTTY Roundup for FT is on right now and there is (was) a lot of activity on 15M FT4. I worked Honduras and all over the States from CN89. Barefoot KX3and Buddi-dipole. Give it a shot. I think it goes all weekend.

that the plus + .and it is red. mine is black and about the same with harmonic's and power. just a UV-5R . but I have tested some that are quite dirty. same manual I threw out. their is Baofeng program softwire for that but CHIRP much better. They have USB C battery for them now. both standard and hi cap. their is a 2200 MAH battery as well. just thicker not longer. came with one of mine with Nagoya NA 771 antenna package with speaker mic. I have several stock antenna I don't use. maybe a coffle stir stick . has been done . video on you tube. water proof Baofeng in the shower as well. I have a UV-5G as well. looks the same until take off antenna. the radio is SMA F .GMRS version. and it's clean . no TX outside of GMRS. I seen blue and cameo even a silver face black one. even a real big army green one. 73's

I guess that depends on what metric you're using. The K5 is a lot more "fun"
