Orton updated the 3-key controller on the Paragon Kilns late in 2019 and the programming has changed. This video provides instructions for using the preset ramp speeds, the custom user programs, how to turn off the delay start feature and how to set a temperature alarm for the new 5.0 controller.
Additional programming features can be found in the product manual at this link:

Thank you so for this video, I have really been struggling with the manual, feeling out of sorts. I see you also addressed the issue I ran into trying to enamel with kiln. The alarm kept going off. I went back to my old tried and true UHLIG enamel kiln. I have not made friends with this Paragon yet. I feel encouraged to try again.

I understand I need to read the product info for firing schedules. I am returning to metal clay after being away for a fee years. Just ground and rehydrate left over clay. I remember firing at 1650 for 2 hours as the norm. You set lower and fire 10 minutes. Has the newer clays changed that much?? Asking as I'm confused.😢

I'm so glad you are returning to metal clay! Clays have changed a LOT! And the firing is going to vary from brand to brand. I use Art Clay Silver and for basic things like earrings 1500 for 10 minutes is fine. I use different firings for more complicated projects but I NEVER fire 1650 for 2 hours. My longest hottest firing is 1600 for 1 hour and that's for enameling. Again, that is JUST for Art Clay Silver.

Great video. I have not completely finished watching it, but for some reason my kiln LTDE alarm pops on while I am in the middle of firing. I have the same kiln. Would you know why this is happening and what I can do to correct? Thank you!

Hi Jeanette, You are experiencing a Low Temperature Deviation alarm and is generally no cause for concern. It means you kiln is not heating or cooling at the expected rate. This is alarm is determined by the TEDE setting and can be adjusted. From IDLE press the up arrow until OPT2 appears. Press Start/Stop. Press up arrow until TEDE appears. Press Start/Stop. The temperature is likely set to 100. That means if you kilns expected heating or cooling rate varies by more than 100 degrees (this refers to ramp speed, not target temp) the alarm will sound. Try increasing this number to 150. Press start/stop to set the new temp and then use the up arrow until EXIT appears. Press Start/Stop. This should return you to IDLE. This will likely solve the problem. However, if you continue to get an alarm there may be other issues such as a bad thermocouple, a bad relay or burned out elements. Assuming this is a new kiln, contact Paragon for Warranty repairs.
