Worked perfectly the first time on my 2005 Toyota Matrix! $12 bucks total for new key off Amazon and local hardware store to cut the key. I would definitely try this first before spending $80 at the dealer! Thanks, DIY-time!
This did work on my 2006 Sienna, but it took several tries to get the programming mode on. I think it worked finally because, as shown in this video, I only opened the door enough to let the door ding only once each time I opened it. And I opened and closed it fairly quickly, as shown in this video. Bravo! Great instructions!! Many thanks!!
To get into programming mode you must do the first two steps in 35 seconds. Then take the key out within 10 before sticking in new key and waiting for light out.
2005 Matrix , $16 blank on EBay , $4 to cut key , Programming key for free with these instructions . Success . Instructions worked great . Lock smiths want $65-75 for this same job . Thanks for a clear instructional video .
My 2005 Toyota Corolla(without automatic locks) key is bending really bad so I bought 2 keys with chips in the online for $14 and I got them cut at farm and fleet for free and I followed these steps and it worked perfectly. I just saved like $90 per key. Dealerships charge so much for replacements. Thank you for this video!
Thanks! This worked like a charm on my 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid - I bought a transponder key online for $6, took it to my local Walmart, and they cut the new key for free! Total WIN!!!
I used your procedure successfully on a 2005 Sienna XLE Limited. I got the key blank on Amazon from Keys2go for 7.99 plus tax. It had the dot on the key stem. Home Depot cut the key for free. They used a big Hillman automated key making machine. They must have their own key blank to provide a bar code to program the key making machine. There are procedures on RU-vid to program the key fob as well. Thanks for providing an excellent video! I have only used this key twice so I can’t comment on its longevity.
Worked great in a 2007 Highlander, thanks for the clear instructions. Locksmith didn't believe me when he cut the blank that it was possible to program the key transponder without a specific programming device
Ha ha.. 😂 I just had the same experience.. Key lock place said they would have to program each key for $45.. I told them that I could do it myself.. they didn't believe me and wished me luck.. and said, "Come back when it doesn't work "
Thank you! I bought an after-market key on eBay but the instructions were as clear as muddy water. My car is a Toyota Corolla Ascent sedan 2007 ZRE-152 (Australia). I didn't find your website describing the procedure. Your warning not to cut the key first is important but in my case, I cut it first - I was able to succeed with your procedure luckily. Your second good point is how to identify the master key and use it for programming. Your best point was how to know that you have brought the car into key programming mode - the security light staying on once the master key was withdrawn. I'm so grateful to have found your crystal clear procedure - I spend a day opening and closing my door trying the eBay procedure and others I found online. Luckily I found your excellent method - worked the first time! I'm impressed 🙂
For my 2004 sequoia this definitely worked .. Update. I tried one more time and it worked using the sequence below. This time, when turning the programmed key back and forth to off and on, I did it really fast. I also inserted the new key really fast. I think that’s what did the trick. You have to do it really fast with Sequoia. That’s what my locksmith told me. He was right. 1) Close all doors 2) Insert your Master key (black) int the key cylinder 3) Turn the ignition from Lock to On 5 times within 15 seconds - on the 5th time, leave the key in the ON position 4) Open and close the driver’s door 6 times within 20 seconds 5) Turn the Master key back to Lock and remove 6) Insert the new blank key and turn to ON position 7) Leave in ON position for at least 60 seconds (while the key registers with the vehicle) 8) After 60+ seconds, remove the key. 9) Open then Close the driver’s door to end the process”

2005 Toyota Matrix. Worked!!!!! Thank you. Ordered blank oem key online for 12$ for two keys took it to homedepot they cut it for free because they told me they couldn't program it unless I bought their 80$ key.
+dave s Awesome! Once I also got my 4Runner keys cut for free at my local hardware store. Because I brought my own keys, they didn't charge me anything.
Video workes perfectly, watched all other videos and tried other instructions buy they all say to turn thr new key to on position, that doesnt work for sienna 09
This procedure works on Toyota Camry 2006 LE 4 Cylinder. It did not work for me after three tries, because I opened and closed the door too slow. I read one of the previous comments about open and close the car door just like on this video, and tried again, it works. You need to open and close the driver door a little fast, just like the video.
Alhamdulillah! About the 10th time I tried it it worked! 💕💕💕 This single mom thanks you a million. Never use paracord as a key chain! Mine got wrapped around my steering column and bent my key this morning almost in a 90° angle. Yikes!!! Needless to say my original intention was to go on Amazon months ago and get spare keys and program them myself. But because of the possible emergency situation not wanting my key to break off in my ignition. I went to the dealership today verified my ownership them, bought the key only and have them cut it by the VIN number (because that bent key definitely was not fitting into a tracer key machine to copy it) and told him I'd be back if I couldn't program it myself. Getting the key today costing me $45 but I saved $155 "programming fee" plus most importantly I saved hours of time wasted on a Saturday day off not having to wait, in a dealership . Now I will be getting the rest of my spare keys on Amazon as well as getting the key fob which itself at the dealership cost over $130 plus the programming fee. Again a million thanks.
Thank you it worked for 2006 Toyota hybrid limited highlander..... husband 1.order key online 2.then got the 🔑 cut by local locksmith 3. program the 🔑following this instruction 4.happy saving 💰....
Thank you for sharing! I'll add it to compatibility list on my web site, this definitely will be helpful for others! www.diy-time.com/automotive/toyota/toyota-transponder-chip-key-programming/
Worked on my 2004 Highlander. Bought a combo key from Bay and had it cut by a local HW store. The person helping me said there was no charge but I gave him a nice tip. Even though everything worked out for me your advice to program the key BEFORE cutting makes lots of sense. Programming didn't work on the first attempt and I got a little concerned. Let me know you read this and I'll send a tip your way as well!!$
Hi! I have a problem with my 2005 camry. When I push the unlock key it unlock the door, get 2 beeps and a flashing light. But, when I push the lock button I don't get anything except the doors get locked , no beep no flashing light and the headlight don't go off even after I hit it twice. Can someone help me fix this issue i'd appreciate it.
Worked easily on my 2004 Camry XLE, even thou the locksmith who cut my new key said "You- tube' would not work" AND the fine print from ebay seller, said key was NOT 'self' programmable- It's a ''chip type 4D67'' Many THANKS
Make sure you are using master key to enter programming mode. Make sure you have correct chip as well (same as on your master key). Or your new key may be defective.
@@DIYtimeTRD or you car has reached the maximum amount of keys to program and you have to have to hack into the cars ECU to remove lost programmed keys
Fantastic and thanks do much for this! My locksmith wanted to charge be $120 AUD to supply and program a key. Thanks to you I will have money left over for Xmas presents this year.
2006 Toyota Sequoia I didn't follow this video. But there is a link for additional information on the website. It included instructions for 2003-2007 toyota Sequoia. I followed method 2, but also the additional note(by jonathan eliff) after that is important the sequoia is closed and locked, use fob to unlock while in vehicle. security light will remain off when in programming mode. Took 3 tries to enter programming mode, but the $13(+$2 to get it cut at local lock smith) oem key i bought on ebay worked perfect! Thanks so much for your information
Thank you so much, this video saved me $240 , I bought a key from Toyota blank one $32, which they were going to charge me $299 to cut and programme it. but I got it cut for $15 and programmed it myself. Total cost was $47. Make sure you follow the steps, also go on their website read the steps before you do it, test out if you can start the programming mode with your key first before you go to buy the key. it worked for my 2005 toyota Kluger Japanese import. (YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE WORKING KEY TO MAKE THIS WORK.)
Thanks so much for this video! Worked on a key I had cut for my 2005 Toyota 4Runner. Very clear instructions and worked on the first try. Saved myself $125 they charge at the dealership! Thanks again!
Thank you for making this video! It helps most of us not get ripped off by the locksmiths and Dealership's! Remember also that when you buy a use car from Dealership make Shure to tell them to give you a set of keys not just one set! They can make it for you right on the spot!! They let them BS you that they only can give you one set!! They just want you to return to them so that you paid them about $500.00 for the other key! Don't be a sucker!
Thank you, This was a big help ! I have a 03 4Runner v8 4.7 chip is bottom right side OEM key at toyota is $ 37.00 programming is $ 170.00 I'll just have the key cut and do the rest my self ! Thanks
This worked perfectly on my 2004 toyota highlander on the first try. Thanks! Saved me $75. from dealer program. The key cost me $24. for the chipped key with cutting. I would have had to make an appointment and go back for programming. Another video did not work for me that involved pressing the brake and gas pedal without opening the door. This one did the trick!
Worked great for my 2004 Sienna LE. Excellent clear instructions especially from a Russian guy (no offense) ;) Now I will buy more keys from your link as a token of my appreciation.
Just programmed my key by this method. Worked perfectly on my 2006 Toyota 4runner. Guy at Ace hardware cut key for $2 but said I wouldn't be able to program it myself. There was a big sign in store that said they charged $69 to cut and program transponder keys. Its BS folks. He asked how I was going to do it. I said I had to pat my head and rub my tummy, and open my door six times. Like on You tube. He warned me that You Tube isn't always reliable. I grinned and thanked him.
😂 I had almost the same story... Guy at Ace Hardware told me key will only start the car once so you could drive to the dealer to get new key programmed. He also said after first use ignition cylinder may get locked and only dealer can unlock it. He almost got me... I was close to paying him for programming, but then decided to risk it. Just to be safe, I programmed key at dealers parking lot... Than started car few time to see if it gets locked or not... Worked like a charm! Saved me $200!
Yay, 2005 corolla works great. Took two tries because the first time I waited a bit too long to insert the new key. Be sure to get the new key in while the security light is still lit solid.
Tried this today on two 4D chip w/ "DOT" transponder keys purchased on Amazon $20. Your procedure worked perfectly on both keys for my 2008 FJ Cruiser.
Awesome work, Sir! Thank you very much! I am NOT going to pay someone $150 to 'program' my key! I knew there had to be an easier way! I'll bet you have you don't have to open and close the whole door though. I will try it with just pushing the little button the door pushes when it closes and let you know if it works. Just easier to not have to open and close the whole door. Thanks again! Merry Christmas!
DIY-time hi, I intend to buy a Toyota Vitz 2013 which has only one key...will the steps you showed work for my Toyota Vitz F , 1000 cc, right hand drive?
+kahanaohana Sorry, our 4Runner was totaled in car accident, so I never recorded that video. But I should still have programming instructions somewhere. I'll send it to you soon.
+kahanaohana Here you go. Doesn't look like it is compatible with 2009 4Runner, but try it anyway. Don't buy a remote yet, just check if you can enter programming mode first. www.diy-time.com/automotive/toyota/toyota-remote-fob-programming-instructions/ I hope this works.
2002 Sequoia Have your master Toyota key at hand (black key) 1. Insert black programmed key into ignition. 2. Press and release accelerator pedal 5 times within 15 seconds of inserting key into ignition. 3. Press and release brake pedal 6 times within 20 seconds of step 2. 4. Remove black key from ignition switch. 5. Insert new unprogrammed key into ignition within 10 seconds of step 4. 6. Press and release accelerator pedal once within 10 seconds of step 5. 7. Once these steps are performed properly you will see the immobilizer warning lamp begin to flash and after one minute the lamp will stop flashing. Once the immobilizer warning lamp stops flashing you will have ten seconds to insert an additional key to be programmed. 8. Within ten seconds of inserting key into ignition press and release accelerator pedal once. 9. Immobilizer warning lamp will flash and after one minute the lamp will shut off.
Worked like a charm on my 08 Sr5. My only regret is the dealer didn't have one and I went with an aftermarket key that works great but, doesn't have a Toyota logo on it.🤣
Worked on 2005 Corolla. One point I think not mentioned in video is you need to complete the programming sequence within 35 seconds. Found that out on another video after multiple failed attempts
Hi look like you help alot of people congratulations, thank you I hve a sequoia 2004 i get the key from the dealer but i neet to program it thank you for any help
Does the 2004 Toyota Sienna LE have the programing feature? I've tried the sequence several times and haven't been able to get the security light to stay on after opening and closing the door 6 times. I pull the master key out and the security light just goes out and doesn't stay on. My master key has a dot as does the uncut, unprogramed transponder key.
Is this new copy also now a master key? Or is it a slave/valet key? Could you theoretically use this new copy to program other keys in the future if needed say in the case you lost the original master key?
