I'm an Anglo, and I think you have a great voice. There is precision in your pronunciations.

You are a godsend. I can't count the times I've butchered the French language, often without realizing the word is of French origin adopted into American 'english'.

So putting stress on the first syllable is ok and stress on the second syllable is also ok.

The first two possible pronunciations you give for the name - right after you say "typical French pronunciation" - and that I think are supposed to be the same, differ: The first time you stress the second syllable and the second time you stress the first syllable. And in the end - after you say "in French again" - you stress the first syllable twice and the third time you stress the second syllable again. So which is it? I came here to find out whether to stress the first or the second syllable. I'm from the German speaking part of Switzerland, I already know how to no pronounce the name with a US American accent.

Hi Marie. I understand. There is no stressing on any syllable more than on any other in French, virtually on any word, all the same stress on every syllable is the basis of French, that's why it may sound so monotonous sometimes. Now, with intonations, the context of what you're saying, the way you want to say a word, etc. the natural speech, one may slightly emphasize on one syllable more than another, otherwise it would really be very boring. That's why varying the intonation a little here to illustrate how to say it, you hear a little difference. But whichever way you like is fine, as long as you don't over emphasize on any syllable more than others. Hope this makes sense?

@@RU-vidJulien I just whispered "Je me baladais sur l'avenue le coeur overt a l'inconnu" without singing it and there really are rather few syllables in it you really have to stress to pronounce the words correctly. So your explanation doesn't only "technically" make sense but I see that it is also true. And when in doubt, it seems, a (slight) stress is on the first syllable. 7,5 years of learning French at school and it really is possible that none of my six French teachers ever told me that. Thank you for your (very quick!) reply.

@@RU-vidJulien Yes! I have found that to be very true of French - that there is all the same stress of every syllable. It often feels, to me, like French is a language designed to flow....some of the pronouciation or grammar rules seem to exist for this purpose only, like le liason. I think this flow is also why it can be hard at times for people trying to learn French...for native English speakers like me (I'm Canadian) it can be hard to hear the individual words, because of this flow, and because of the emphasis of vowels over consonants. But it is also one of the things I think is so beautiful about it. I sometimes think that English must sound perhaps a bit harsh on the ear to native French speakers, in the same way that German sounds a bit harsh on the ear to native English speakers.

Please pass on your pronunciation to CNN. They persist in pronouncing it "MaaKrone" to rhyme with bone. Even MacRon as in Irish or Scottish names would be an improvement.

In the French version that "r" is so silent as to almost not be there? Is it there or not, I feel my ears are playing tricks on me!? Haha

Hi Daniel, definitely an R there, but I guess it's eaten up a little by the K sound of the C, they're into one another in the KR sound

Would have been better if just the pronunciation was given without the unnecessary long introduction which we can easily find elsewhere. Could have saved some time
