1. Does this method work for polkadot begonias, or do you need a node? 2. Have you tried sphagnum moss as a growing medium, with coir? Any success? 3. Do you ever have issues with mold from the trapped moisture? Thanks for this video!

Thanks. Ive got a stunning metalic purple looking one but its gone all leggy and flopped over so going to prune and propogate using your advice...
@nathanaelsmith3553
@nathanaelsmith3553 8 месяцев назад
Update: I followed your method of lying the leaves on top to propagate my metallic purple begonia rex. I also tried another method of just randomly cutting up the leaves into bits and mixing them in with the vermiculite. Both are proving successful, however, with differing results?! The plants from your method grew faster and resemble the metallic purple parent. The plants from the randomly chopped and mixed method emerged slower and look different. They aren't metallic purple - they are just green and white. Curious.

Another approach to propagating rhizomatous and Rex cultorum begonias is by leaf wedges. Could you post a how-to video on this technique?
@charliebrown9188
@charliebrown9188 Год назад
That was really great, Thank you. I have really good results propagating in water and in sphagnum moss, but the potting is not as successful. so now I'm trying coco coir and I'm even considering trying to pot on straight into coco coir only - I have a fair bit of it. If this method doesn't work, I'm going to try vermiculite. I'm a bit lala for rhizomatous begonias, and my failures are discouraging me.... So, lets see how thing go. Thanks for your video, it kind of gave me hope again

Hi. Thanks for another great video When cutting leaf do I cut all the way through or just slice half way Thanks
@GrowParadise

Hello! Good question 😀 All the way through, then there is a gap where the new leaves will emerge. 🌱

If you put them into completely sealed containers, do you recommend adding any small air holes for circulation? Or would that defeat the entire purpose of trapping the moisture within, not having to water them again?

Such a great video. I have Escargot begonia can I use these outside in the summer as bedding plants? Going to try to propogate some for this reason I think and keep the mother plant inside for insurance.

Wow! How will you divide the individual plants if/when the roots take off? How many plants can one leaf potentially put out with this technique? Very cool.
@GrowParadise
@GrowParadise 3 года назад
One lead can make dozens of babies, just gently cut them apart once they have a good amount of roots 🌱😀

Hi thank you for a great video. I have a few small plants and some leaves that I've got that I really wanted to prop but used perlite & coco-coir but it seems to be too damped. How often do you mist, I'm in autumn now so not so hot anymore and don't have a heat mat yet!
@JV-wi4dz
@JV-wi4dz 3 года назад
Random question, I see what appears to be a pothos plant that you're possibly trying to "vine" up what appears to be twill wrapped around a tube structure...What's the best material to do this with? I have a dozen pothos that are around 4-5ft long and I would love to train them to grow around a tube structure like the one above. Thanks!
@GrowParadise
@GrowParadise 3 года назад
Try using coir, you can buy it as a Matt that can be wrapped around a tube. 👍

Watering before or after doesn't make too much difference for me. So long as it's damp then it will work 👍😁

Pros or cons to propagating in water?
@GrowParadise
@GrowParadise 2 года назад
Pros are constant humidity, cons are rot is highly likely to occur due to the lack of air circulation. Cane type Begonias root well in water but that is using stem cuttings rather than leaf cuttings 👍🪴
@musicalmarion
@musicalmarion 3 года назад
I don't think they travel well, I've lost a few rooted cuttings now I bought online. Some Begonia types seem stronger than others. The cane varieties root easily in water for me. High humidity is preferred, as you say, and taking leaf cuttings in the Spring and Summer months gives far more successful results. Pearlite doesn't really hold water, but it's a good medium for breaking up dense compost for those first delicate roots. It's a useful video but can we see more varieties that you have?
@GrowParadise
@GrowParadise 3 года назад
I think begonias are such delicate plants, they are really fragile when it comes to shipping. Sure I can share the rest of my begonias with you in a video soon 🙂🪴
