Pro tip (from personal experience): Use an under-desk mount for the computer if you don't intend to have it sitting on your desktop. Same for anything that needs to plug into the computer (e.g. a subwoofer). This way, the only cable I have going down and away from the desktop/computer is the power cable to the wall.

This is what I do as well, definitely the way to go. Getting inside your case is a bit more difficult than if it's just on the floor, but I only need to do that maybe 1-2 times per year. And if your case has the front ports at the top of the case, you'll need to take those into account (I mounted my case about 10 cm below the bottom of the desk). In pretty much all other ways, under-desk mounting is better: shorter cables (less cable-management), less dust inside the case (and easier to clean the floor), your feet aren't hitting the cables, even if they're not amazingly cable-managed, etc.

At some point, a company will sell a motorized standing desk with a PC caddy and lift to raise and lower the PC with the desktop, and avoid ugly solutions.

I had one like that at work over twenty years ago, except it was spring assisted and not motorized. They made them in standard desk versions and for corner placement and they cost a small fortune at the time. Price started at about the equivalent of $2000. We bought them used in the aftermath of the Dot-Com bubble in the late 1990's. They were less than a year old and there were so many DOT-com companies that went out of business you could pick them up for close to nothing. I had a corner version that wrapped around me about 120°. Add a ergo keyboard and wrist rest and it was a pretty sweet setup. Still miss the keyboard, it was a joy to use. The spring assist was adjustable and had no problem supporting a tower, a huge CRT monitor, a printer, speakers and everything else you tend to stack on your desk. You unlocked it with a foot pedal and could move it upp or down with only a finger, so in my opinion it was better than any motorized version I've seen. It adjusted from way to low to be used with an ordinary chair to high enough for someone well over six feet tall. Like I said these were very expensive when bought new, but the quality was superb. I think the current crop of motorized sit-stand desks are a lot cheaper to make. Not having to support a 80 lbs. CRT screen and a full tower helps keep the price down.
@tnykuuh

it already exist. At my last work, they had like a stand under the desk that was attached to the desk itself so when it goes up or down, the desktop tower was also moving with the desk.

As long as your PC is on the floor you cant have an elegant cable management solution for your standing desk, especially with multiple monitors. I resolved it by having a mini ITX pc on my desk so the only cable you need coming down from your desk is the power cable (and ethernet optionally, but I just zip-tied it to the power cable so it looks line a single cable). Biggest benefit of this approach is that your don't put any stress on your cables (besides the power cable) so there is no worries of things getting worn out or unplugging due to the table moving up and down.

On my sit/stand desk I installed two 1U PDUs which connect to a UPS and plug everything into them. I've still had wall scraping issues and even with velcro zip ties it can be quite a mess sometimes. I've actually been considering recently getting like a net or pouch or something to run along the back and maybe a ton of short extension cables and then putting all that in the pouch so they're easier to manage.

I got a 10 outlet workbench powerstrip from a bigbox home improvement store. The putlets are spaced a few inches apart to allow bulky plugs to not interfere with each other. It also has a 4' cord so it works well with my sit/stand desk. I then added a little wire rack to hold power bricks and my network switch.

I'd love to see a cable management video where a UPS is involved. I've seen a lot of cable managment videos and all of them try to stuff a surge protector somewhere to power everything nicely, but they never go over how to cable manage when a UPS is involved. Ever since using a UPS I don't think I could go back to not having one. The peace of mind and practicallity of never losing data or progress in a game due to a 1 second brownout or a blackout is inmessurable. Thanks

@zora_tech Год назад
This came out really nice but every setup I have seen always leaves something out which I think its is very important and that is adding a UPS to your setup while also cable managing it. You may lose power only once or it may never happen, but usually if it does happen then its when you cant afford it to do so. Which is what happened to me and now I have a UPS to make sure I never lose data due to a power outage.

I'm so glad you did this video and gave us some pointers. I also recently purchased a motorized gaming table. I have Spondylosis of the lower back lumbar. which I needed to sit and stand for short periods. My table also came with openings on each side corner to route cable away from the center to the tray underneath. I did my best to bunch up all the cables together and lightly zip ties to hold them together. although I do like some of your ideas (cable spine, labels for what is what, magnetic cable clips) just wish I had found this video before this weekend's special. I would have added this easily to my shopping list. Better late than never. TY

Pro tip: If you want to make the whole desk easily movable (e.g. for cable work from the back, cleaning etc.), put it on wheels. Pro pro tip: If you additionally want to move the entire table away from its position without having to worry about cables, have all cables coming out of the main cable sleeve terminate in a small D type stage box next to the desk so you can pull all 1-n plugs within seconds and you’re able to move the table to another room if you want to.

I think I'd be inclined to just run an extension cable through the ceiling, through a length of flexible pvc pipe, and have some cut-outs for routing cables. As for the desk, I'd rather have a height-adjustable monitor mount and a swing-out standing work surface above a non-adjustable sitting-height surface. No worries about the desk wearing out and deciding not to move, and I could build it at home. Nothing touching the floor would be nice.

The secret for me is separation, cables that don’t move need to be zip tied tight to the back( I have a metal cable holder) whole movable cables or cables that get switched out frequently need to have Velcro’s straps used on them so they aren’t rubbing against plastic all the time. Second is simply keep it clean, do NOT wrap your cables around things when you don’t have many zip ties just get more trust me it looks like crap.
