Why wouldn’t you just hack, front or back squat instead. Why limit the load you can use by front loading a dumbbell in your hands. It’s basically the same movement. Elevate your heels on plates and barbell or hack squat instead imo. Unless you don’t have the stuff to.

It doesn't need to be an either/or proposition. All these moves have value in different ways (and, based on load placement, they actually aren't all the "same" movement...this is actually part of the point behind Kabuki's excellent Transformer bar: Subtle changes in load placement in a squat can influence core engagement, quad engagement, etc.) The torso position of any goblet squat is going to be upright, which instantly makes it different from any back squat variation simply because this limits the amount of forward torso lean you can create. You could argue front and goblet squat have some similarities, but not everyone can get into a clean front squat position with the bar. The final thing to consider is that the goblet squat isn't as capped as most people think. At VERY high levels, obviously you'll be able to load more via barbell front squat. But for the great portion of the general population, working up to a 130-pound heels-elevated goblet squat has a lot of value and is more than enough load to stimulate lower-body hypertrophy, especially at relatively high volume.
